... Continuation from the above post... Would it just be easier to connect via usb for file transfer and streaming? Maybe use a 5 metre cable!

...would NAS need to be turned on?

In order for the Mede8er to read the PCs, no - you don't need to turn NAS on - NAS is only for the PC to access the Mede8er's internal & USB drives.

You cannot stream movies from the PC to the Mede8er via USB type-B connector (squarish one with 2 rounded corners) - that would only be for managing files on your Mede8er's drive and allows the unit to act as a 'dumb' slave drive.

If you have an external USB storage device though, you can stream from that - just plug it into one of the Mede8er's USB type-A connectors on the side of the unit.

Hi insomniac. I could not get my mede8er to view any shared folders on my pc, even going through all the settings again, so what i did was connect them both via the type-b to type-a usb and my pc detected it as an external, as it should, and i got some upload speeds between 10 000 and 20 000kbps (i think that's what total copy said), but that's fast enough for me. At least now i can copy stuff over, it's awesome. So for now connecting via wired lan is off, until i install Win7 and test again. Thanks for your help.
