Hi.

I want to connect my Mede8er to PC running Windows 7 Home Premium.
I read the whole thread there  - http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=64.0

Enabled various sharing settings and changed registry. Now PC is "visible" in Mede8er.
Result - Login failed.

In next step I enabled quest account in PC.
Result - Everything OK (except I don't want give everyone access into my files).

Same time, when I telnet into Mede8er and give it manually "mount -t cifs ..." command it works flawlessly with given username/password!
So manually it works but not using GUI!?

Any Ideas?

Hi Thomas,

Did you try to setup the things just as you would do when sharing with other windows PC's?

So:
- make an extra account under users (e.g. mede8er) and give this account a password
- then add sharing to the maps you want to share on the mede8er and add the account you made to it.
- then from mede8er gui side login with the made user and password

OK.
I created fresh new account.
No difference - "Logon failed".
Then I removed password from that account - "Logon successful"

I now try to play with different "LMCompatibilityLevel" registry settings.

I guess Windows 7 Home Premium does not have secpol.msc. Just like Vista Home Premium.
Instead you must manually edit the registry. Use caution when editing the registry! Run regedit. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa. Look for the key LmCompatibilityLevel, right click, choose modify, and change the number to the appropriate value of 0 to 5.

0 – Clients use LM and NTLM authentication, but they never use NTLMv2 session security. Domain controllers accept LM, NTLM, and NTLMv2 authentication.

1 – Clients use LM and NTLM authentication, and they use NTLMv2 session security if the server supports it. Domain controllers accept LM, NTLM, and NTLMv2 authentication.

2 – Clients use only NTLM authentication, and they use NTLMv2 session security if the server supports it. Domain controller accepts LM, NTLM, and NTLMv2 authentication.

3 – Clients use only NTLMv2 authentication, and they use NTLMv2 session security if the server supports it. Domain controllers accept LM, NTLM, and NTLMv2 authentication.

4 – Clients use only NTLMv2 authentication, and they use NTLMv2 session security if the server supports it. Domain controller refuses LM authentication responses, but it accepts NTLM and NTLMv2.

5 – Clients use only NTLMv2 authentication, and they use NTLMv2 session security if the server supports it. Domain controller refuses LM and NTLM authentication responses, but it accepts NTLMv2.

In this case, to support Samba, you want the value to change from the default of 3 to 1.

In this case, to support Samba, you want the value to change from the default of 3 to 1.
The key was missing, so I created it first (DWORD).
Tried values - 1, 0, 2, 3 (in this order). No luck.
Funny thing is, when account has password but I leave it in Mede8er blank, I can see the shares BUT can not access them.
When I try to access them, Mede8er will ask password once again and then if I enter correct password shares are accessible. Very weird.

More ideas what to try?

What is the workgroup name you are using on your PC?

The default: WORKGROUP or something else?
If something else, try WORKGROUP on your pc (don't forget to reboot).

Another thing you can try is to bring your network down and power up like this:
- first your router(s) wait till fully up
- then switches if you have and or hubs
- then mede8er, wait until fully up and NAS on message has shown
- then boot up your PC
- wait 5 minutes after your PC is fully up
- try again to connect from your mede8er

Hi!

Workgroup is Win7 default - WORKGROUP.
My PC is always viewable from Mede8er.
As I said, I can browse shares ONLY without entering password  (even if account has password) but access them WITH (or without when account does not) password.
Current solution is remove password from account and then hide account.
