Hi,

when I connect a usb drive to my mede8er, there is no reponse; The mede8er just doesn't react to the drive. The device also doesn't react to the wifi dongle. (Both have been working before)

The mede8er also cannot be upgraded anymore because the drive is not recognized when using the emergency upgrade procedure.

Anyone got any ideas? Or is the mede8er broken?

Regards

Alexander

Sounds like some contact problem or hardware problem.

If I look at your past post, you also already had some usb issues since the beginning.
I suggest to contact your reseller to get it repaired or exchanged under warranty.

Perhaps this is not the right place to write my problem, but anyway...
Lately when I connect my M8 to laptop via USB the latter says "This device can perform faster" and gives me a list of fast USB-s. In result laptop freezes, no connection to M8 even. After the PC restart (2 or 3 times) it finally finds M8. Then no problems to transfer files. When I installed TeraCopy on my PC then it worked well, PC found M8 immediately vis USB. What is happened lately, I can't understand?
By the way, no problems connection via LAN, do everything what you want. But due to very small speed for heavy files you need to connect to USB.
(FW 3.02, internal 1TB HDD, Win XP Pro)

you say that after install Tera COPY  , your usb problem dissapear ?
this is happen when your explorer utility from pc suffer several crushes. it is a windows problem.
maybe only problem with a assigned usb port (try another usb port from your pc) or usb drivers not working corect.
it is difficult to resolv this without advanced knoledge, you'll have to clean registry manualy , mnaybe a windows reinstall will be more faster.....
but if it work well now..........you choose.
cheers.

This might be a hw (contact) issue, bios issue or software driver issue.

To check if it is hw related:
- try usb connection on your mede8er on another pc (from yourself of from a friend)
- try another usb port and usb cable

Thanks both tachita and Maasbommel! Seems you are right. Something must be wrong in Windows, as it has crashed twice in last month: hal.dll file has been lost both time. Why, knowbody do not know. Even Dell's service guys put hands up.

from what i know ,hal.dll is resonsable with hw related devices:  hdd , usb prints, cd roms.

someway the boot.ini was modified.

in your case a faulty usb device (stick) can give such like this.

like Maasbommel say, you could also to verify your BIOS settings under hw devices or peripherals.
