You can also add the Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 2TB,  i'll use that one my self and it works fine!

I thought all SATA up to 2TB were compatible. Is there a reason to think otherwise?

Kind regards

For these players it is best to use the green and eco series of discs, because of their small power, quiet operation and low operating temperature. There are disks that do not work well and create problems.

No, there is no reason to think there are disks smaller then 2TB not working in the Mede8ter, but a known good disk list can always be handy if people want to buy one  ;)

At the moment I use WESTERN DIGITAL WD20EADS CAVIAR GREEN 2TB SATA2 in both my Tvix 6500 and in my mede8er. I can recommend this disk. A lot of space for the money and I think they are very quiet and reasonable cold.

Kind regards

The problem with 2TB hard disk is that they cost twice the 1.5TB version.
1.5 TB about 88 €  http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/231401/western-digital-caviar-green-wd15eads-15tb.html
2.0 TB about 163 € http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/230952/western-digital-caviar-green-wd20eads-2tb.html

I ordered this one (1.5TB version), based on recommendation in this forum, but it won't fit into the mede8er. I removed the cover, and managed to install it onto the cover just fine, but now the HDD protrudes from the end where the plugs go in (see picture A). I can shove it in from one side, but I can't drop it in because the HDD bumps into the top of the mede8er. I can put this end in first but then the other end can't get under the mede8er cover (see picture B). Seems the HDD is too far to one side if that makes any sense. Ideas?

EDIT: Some pictures to show what I mean:

You probably have mounted it 180 degrees wrong, just take a look at the picture on page 4 in the quick start guide.
The sata connector of the disk should be pointed to the inner side of the box.

Can not see how you mounted it on the groundplate from your supplied pictures, because I cannot see the sata connector...

For now they are tested and compatible hard discs:

2TB
SEAGATE BARRACUDA LP ST32000542AS 2TB SATA2

This Drive does have several Problems within my Mede8er.
When Uploading:
NAS stops responding
FTP Uploads crash with large Files >4GB
USB Host Mode crashes

Tried Reflashing of 3.0.4 and flashed 4.0 Beta3 At last I checked an old 400GB SATA Drive which has no problems.
Is ist possible that ;ede8er does hav problems with drives supporting the new 4k Sectors?

I plan to buy an Samsung F3 203WI 2TB(512k Sectorrs) to verify this issue

Mede8er MED500X DD+
V4Beta 4 (Previous 3.0.2 then 3.0.4 then reflashed 3.0.4) I always set it to Defaults and formated the drive again
Bootloader 23L
HDD was formated (many times) within the Mede8er

I also tried connections on 3 different PC, one Lenovo T60 with XP SP3, One Lenovo T510 Win 7 x64 and my old Pentium 4 with Win 7 x32

SEAGATE BARRACUDA LP ST32000542AS 2TB SATA2
This Drive does definitely NOT work 100% compatible in Mede8er.

You do need to have a harddrive with 512 Bytes per sector NOT the new hard drives with 4K Bytes. The SEAGATE BARRACUDA LP ST32000542AS 2TB SATA2 does have 4KB/Sector and uses a 512 Bytes Emulation. Dies will crash mede8er if you connect it via USB or if you copy big files on the Drive.

After I had several Problem with ths SEAGATE BARRACUDA LP ST32000542AS 2TB SATA2 I now bought a 2TB Samsung HD203WI (512Bytes/Sector) which works fine.

Pleas Update the List and the Manual with that!

hi HHH,
If you refer to this document http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_barracuda_lp.pdf and also this http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/disc/manuals/desktop/Barracuda%20LP/100564361a.pdf , it says that this HDD is using 512bytes/sector. regarding that this is only an emulation (of 4kb) or not, I think it's not the problem cause - because this byte-per-sector thingy is hardware related (how many data per sector)

I am not saying that this drive should be or had to be compatible with Mede8er (still searching about this 4kb/sector documents - particularly for 4kb emulation ..) but I refer to official document to state 512bytes per sector.

Mede8er is not supported 4kb/sector (yet), that's why you have to make sure to format using NTFS default.
but if any other user has this experience also, then this particular model is not supported .. :P
