Just try \\mede8er\c to access your internal HDD from you PC, be sure that you have set NAS to on in your Mede8er setup.

If you still got problems, please make a post of how things are connected together, used cables, router and how it is connected together so we can find the root cause of your problems.

Hi charl,

Nice to hear that you have managed to come to 2 components in your network that can be the root cause of your problems.

You just need a straight standard UTP cable, prefered not to use a self-made cable, but factory made.
Just to be sure no mistakes are made on correct twisted pairs and connection pins on the RJ45 modular plug.
In the wikipedia article I posted in my previous message on the botton there are links to articles that show how correct UTP wiring is done.

I guess you already power-cycled your 5 ports hub to fully reset it and also checked the RJ45 ethernet plugs were firmly connected to your hub.

I have now managed to copy the video files by connecting 8 port hub directly to Mede8er, same as i did for music files. What i'd like to test, if i use same cables as before but leave the Yamaha amp disconnected from the 5 port hub. When the transfer failed the first time i was changing inputs on the amp and printed a document from my PC, my printer is also connected to the 8 port hub. Or don't you think this equipment will cause problems? So many variables but i want to make sure i eliminate the problem for good.

NFS is used for streaming HD content from networked storage to your Mede8er - this is known to provide for faster throughput. It is currently of no use in respect of copying files.

I stand by my suggestion to use a copy manager for file transfer to a NAS share - I use SuperCopier2. This integrates into Windows Explorer and replaces the default copy shell. One can very easily flood and bring down a network by initiating too many copy processes at once - Supercopier2 manages this by queueing these copy processes and only allowing one at a time. You can then pause and resume, even remove or promote and demote various files in the copy queue.

To add to this - ask for "CAT5e patch cable" of the length you require - as Maasbommel suggests, with factory-fitted RJ45 plugs.

Sure take this step also: leaving your amp disconnected to eliminate disturbunce from that device on your 5 ports hub.
In theory it is indeed possible that the AMP is giving disturbance on your hub and so disturbing the data flow.

But if that doesn't help, it is something with the hub or the cable.

Another question. I work from home so i have staff computers connected to my home network. I notice that they can access my Mede8er via the network. How can i prevent that from happening?

Yes it could be that the network port of your AMP is defecting and resulting in heavy broadcast over your 5 ports hub that is influencing the dataflow. Or some misconfiguration on your AMP network setup that is causing unwanted broadcasts, or maybe a bug in your AMP.

I would say just reconnect your AMP and see if you get your problem back again.

Always get "network location cannot be reached"...

Equipment:
Ethernet switch Dlink DES1005D
Conneted with Belkin Powerine AV starter kit

(speed when conneted same cables to laptop 5289 kbps download...upload approx the same)...
Firewall disabled
AVG Free antivirus

NAS mode - ON
When starting DHCP IP (Auto), it set himself to 89.212.97.105  (Testing - OK!)

Now..RUN...\\mede8er\c .... fail!  (see obove)...

Let me know what am I missing here???

Just to see if i understand this correctly. If NAS is off nobody including me will beable to access the mede8er via the PC? With NAS off i'd use FILE MANAGER to copy files from my PC to the Mede8er and i won't beable to rip cd's and dvd's directly to the Mede8er, it would be rip to PC first and then copy to Mede8er? If i turn NAS off i can't find Mede8er on my PC but Mede8er sees my PC coz of sharing enabled on PC.

Did you also try this: \\89.212.97.105\c
It could be that you are having a DNS resolve issue and hostname mede8er doesn't get translated to an ip-address.

If that doesn't work then need a completer picture to think with you in right troubleshooting process to come to the root cause.

Can you please be more precise how things are connected together?

What I am missing in the picture:
- how is your PC hooked up in this network? (I guess on a port of the switch)?
- are there more switches, routers and pc's hooked up?
- what is the operating system of your PC (vista 32 or 64, XP or Win7 32 or 64).
- you use DHCP to get IP for Mede8er. Where is your DHCP server? I guess it comes from an Internet ADSL or cable router seen the ip addres your mede8er is getting. Is this a multi-ip router? So does your PC also get's an ip address from this router?

I think or following possible causes:
- duplicate IP-address in your network, check if your all your components in your network have different ip addresses.
- problem with the powerline plug connection. Just try to hookup mede8er with an utp cable directly to your switch to see if the problem is gone.

If all of this does not give a solution, just try to reset your network in this order:
- bring your PC's down and power off
- switch off your mede8er (not standby, but power-off)
- switch off your switch
- switch off your internet cable or ADSL router

Power everything up like this:
- first your internet router (wait until it is fully up and operational)
- then power-up the switch (wait until it is fully up and operational)
- then the mede8er (wait until it is fully up and operational)
- then boot up your PC and check both ip of PC and mede8er, they should be different. Leave any other PC's off
- check if things work now

I suceed to connect my nas(syno 508) to the medeber in nfs mode and i am very disappointed  because i cant  launch m2ts file and for the vob files i can launch them but they didn't play fine!
In the net mode i lost my workgroup access
Any idea??
