Hello uges

NFS --- Something is wrong as m2ts and DVD files play fine. Are you using a 1GB Switch ? Try bypass the switch and see if this solves your problem.

Workgroup Access -- So Samba not working - what operating system are you using?

Hello uges

Pls try to bypass the 1GB switch and see if your NFS stream improves.  Re Samba pls go to Setup Menu - then Network -- Wired Lan Setup and select DHCP (AUTO)  and try again.

Just to see if i understand this correctly. If NAS is off nobody including me will beable to access the mede8er via the PC? With NAS off i'd use FILE MANAGER to copy files from my PC to the Mede8er and i won't beable to rip cd's and dvd's directly to the Mede8er, it would be rip to PC first and then copy to Mede8er? If i turn NAS off i can't find Mede8er on my PC but Mede8er sees my PC coz of sharing enabled on PC.

Not sure if you are asking or telling, but I'll assume you're asking or at least requesting confirmation of your understanding - I'll confirm that your understanding is correct.
If you turn NAS mode in your Mede8er SETUP off then no PC will see the Mede8er as a network share.
This will not affect the Mede8er's ability to read the network shares of your PC network. You will still be able to use the FILE MANAGER as you suggest to pull files onto the Mede8er.

There is a way to split your network using certain routers, specifying which MAC or IP addresses form part of network 1 (call it Home network), and which ones form part of network 2 (Call it Work network) - in this manner you could deny your "work PCs" access to your "home PCs" and vice versa. For this I would suggest looking at your router manual - personally I would not feel comfortable walking you through this type of configuration using the medium of a forum. I do however feel that this could overcome your dilemma.

... for the vob files i can launch them but they didn't play fine!

Hi uges,

For full DVD functionality (menus etc), launch your DVDs via your IFO file - not the VOBs.

Can you copy the files in question to your Mede8er or a USB to avoid the network completely?
I'd like you to check firstly that the files in question are OK.

If the movie files play fine when connected directly to your Mede8er then look again at your network configuration as there appears to be a problem either with the NAS or the cabling - something appears to be choking your bandwidth.

For troubleshooting the network issue I would suggest taking out as many variables as possible (routers, switches, cables, etc) and add them back one by one until the issue presents itself. This could be anything from a bad patch cable to a missing tick in a setting somewhere...

Thanks Insomniac, I was asking and you have confirmed what i was thinking. I have managed to split my home network from my work network. I like the idea of being able to rip my cd's and dvd's straight to the Mede8er drive so i need NAS to be on.

Yes it could be that the network port of your AMP is defecting and resulting in heavy broadcast over your 5 ports hub that is influencing the dataflow. Or some misconfiguration on your AMP network setup that is causing unwanted broadcasts, or maybe a bug in your AMP.

I would say just reconnect your AMP and see if you get your problem back again.

Hi Maasbommel,

Can now confirm that my amp must be causing the problems. I ran my PC screensaver from ther Mede8er hard drive yesterday without problems but when i switched the amp on an error message appeared saying network device not found etc etc. I'm sure my amp isn't faulty coz it's network functions work fine, i guess there must be a conflict somewhere.

Hi apotheker,

The next version of the firmware will include FTP access. This was held back from the previous release as there were certain elements of this facility that the beta testers were not satisfied with.

I have a similar problem. If I connect my Mede8er to my NAS (MvixBox) using NFS, I can see the directories, find a movie, except when I try to stream it, the mede8er hangs and needs to be rebooted. Streaming from a normal network file share works fine. I am using an HP GB Switch
