Hi Andre,

1. Try plugging the Mede8er into your PC via USB then delete all partitions you find (even 'unknown' ones), then try the format again from the Mede8er GUI.

2. Is this speed issue via wireless? Please provide more detail on your hardware configuration.
  - If wireless include wardware, distance, walls, is dongle plugged into unit itself or are you using supplied USB extension?
  - If wired include approx. length of cables, and every piece of hardware between Mede8er and source.

Hi guys,

I have following question in regards of wi-fi dongle of mede8er....

Is there any sense of buying Linksys WRT610n router with DUAL BAND possibility (2.4 and 5.0 GHz)... Is Mede8er dongle capable to make benefits with this? Or better buy cheaper router (Belkin N+)...

Thanks in advance!

Thank you Insomniac, the advise about the Hard drive worked 100%.  I am setting up the mede8er in the same room as the router and I am using the wireless dongle.  I have tried the Network option, created a user for the mede8er on my pc, gave it sufficient rights, tried logged onto the pc with the mede8er without success.  Just gets the message Login Failed.  I have tried the wired route a s well, with a 2m flylead.  Same result.

I then trien the NFS option as suggested on the forum somewhere.  Downloaded and installed haneWIN NFS Server, configured it, set my exports like this:

d:\music -readonly -name:music 192.168.1.101
e:\movies -readonly -name:movies 192.168.1.101
e:\series -readonly -name:series 192.168.1.101

In the mede8er it is set like this:
/music
/movies
/series

This way I could see the files and browse them through the mede8er, but the speed is so slow it seems as if the mede8er is hanging.  To move from one file to another takes about 1 min just to display the file information, artist, genre, track no etc etc.

Today, the mede8er could not logon to NFS for some reason so I checked the haneWIN NFS server settings.  In the export section there are nothing, yet if I edit the export file the exports are there.  I have now decided to pack the wireless dongle away untill such time someone comes up with an easy setup and config to make this all work fine.  Maybe it's windows 7, I don't know.  But now I will just copy the files I want to watch onto my portable drive or populate the internal drive with my media files as before.  No biggie.

Thanx anyway.

Hi Andre,
I have also had this problem with hanewin and this is what I have done to remedy it:
1. Uninstall hanewin
2. Go to c:\program files and delete folder nfsd
3. re-install hanewin
4. redo the exports file as you had before but leave out the ip adresses

Try this and see if it sorts you out.
I have had this problem in both win7 and vista but never on xp.
I run hanewin on win7, vista and xp with a hardwired lan and find it very fast, streams movies no problem.

Cheers

Hi donatello2000,

I don't have enough wireless knowledge to answer this, but perhaps your question would have had better exposure to wireless users and experts had it been in a wireless thread, rather than in this firmware release thread.

Hi Donatello2000!

The mede8er dongle only supports 2,4 Ghz band.

Kind regards

@Andre, if you wouldn't mind, try performing a reset - from the Mede8er setup menu. This will return all the settings to default.
I am assuming that you have tried various hardware troubleshooting configurations - removing as many variables from the dataflow as possible? (there have been a few reported issues with gigabit switches for example)

@Andre, sorry to hear you still have a problem with hanewin. I have a couple of other things you can try but I see Insomniac has some things for you to try to resolve your speed issue so I will wait till he has you fixed up with that otherwise you will be trying too many things at once - never a good idea. I can definately say that hanewin does work with windows 7 and it is far faster than samba for streaming.

Hi

Just an update on the problems I have been having with the new Firmware

The sound problems and Switching off issue still persists. The switching off issue seams to have gotten worse instead of happening only 20% of the time its now happening about 60% of the time.

The Sound issue seams to only affect media files with a 5.1 sound track not ones with a Stereo soundtrack

I have also picked up on another issue

Some times when I switch on the mede8er the resolution changes to 480P and I am unable to select any other resolution they are all greyed out the only options that are available are 480p and HDMI auto.

The only way I can fix this is to pull out the power at the back of the unit and then plug it back in then all the settings go back to normal

This has happened with the old firmware but seams to be happening more often since the new firmware was installed.

Cheers

Hi ricardo

Pls try to live with these bugs as it wont be long before we release the very latest firmware based on the most up to date SDK that resolves a lot of the bugs you mention and many others.

These bugs revolve around HDMI handshake issues specific to certain of the latest LG and Sony TV models.
These have been tested and have been resolved to a large extent by the latest Realtek SDK which is being included in the next firmware release.
Not everyone is experiencing these issues, only those with specific TV models and using HDMI.

One way to avoid these issues until the new firmware is released is to turn on the Mede8er first and wait about 15 seconds before turning on the TV, otherwise make use of the Component video outputs. This is just an interim workaround - please bear with us for the next few weeks.

@ricardo, please advise what your make & model of TV is so that the HDMI compatibility with this new SDK can be ascertained.
