Hi!

I have an .mpg-file of about 1 GB that refuses to play. Even with FW 3.0. The info I extracted is given below. Is this a codec problem? If so, how can I cut off a small piece to upload to the service-centre? Alternatively: the file extension is .mpg, but the analysis suggests that it is a WMV-file. Should I rename the file? Other suggestions?

Arjan

I think it will not play.

It iS very possible that you'll see M8R freezing.
But you'll have to try.

Just checked my collection and compared to specs:

I think it is because Windows Media Video 7  codec, I have Windows Media Video 9 codec files that play well.

So how strange is it to want to play an old file?
Should I file a feature request on the appropriate sub-forum?
The concert in the .mpg-file is pretty good, and it would complete
my set of concerts in 1971 and in 1984 with a third concert in 1997! ;-)))

First try to change extension to wmv, but i doubt that will work.
If not use Handbrake software to convert him to mkv.

I'll follow your suggestions. Still I feel like surrendering when I have to convert my files! My pc has no problem, and I am not a computer-whizz-kid, so how difficult can it be? I bought a media-player and have a medium that I want to play. Rock it, Mede8er! Get a matching codec!

ps. Don't understand me wrong: I really like this little black box! Just making an attempt to optimize!

That file isn't so big , if you have another download source it will be good.
Avoid wmv 1 and 2, these are not supported.

The box is not a PC! It dosn't use software codecs. If you want to compare it to a PC it's like having a very powerful Video supporting 2D graphics card ( A matrox perhaps), and a very slowwwwww processor.  As long as the graphics card has hardware support for the codec then this arrangment  works.
