Mede8er GUI Builder
« on: November 01, 2009, 10:03:37 AM »
Hi

I bought my MED500EX on Friday, and have been trying out both TViXiE and Movie GUI Builder to customize my about.jpg images. While both of them have excellent scraping functionality, I find the template editing / customization functionality a bit limited (all due respect to the creators).

TViXiE allows you to create your own templates, but should you have fields in your template without the correct %KEYWORD% (there ain't all that many), it does not populate these fields after retrieving the information, and it does not allow you to manually edit these fields either.

MGB allows you to move fields around, but there is no GUI for adding, editing or deleting these fields.

In light of these shortcomings (IMO), I have started developing my own Movie / TV GUI Builder, and would like to use this opportunity to ask for input from anyone that wishes to contribute to the design of my application. Any input would be appreciated and design credit will be given where it is due.

I would also very much like the screen overlays for the MED500X, if anyone out there has them?

Hi DT,

Movie Gui Builder does allow text editing, but that aspect is a little clumsy, with respect of course...

I am excited to hear of your efforts - what sort of assistance do you require?

Regarding the screen overlays, what sizes or artwork are you looking for?

Just to put you in the picture, Mede8er is currently developing a scraping tool which will create these images.
Questions? Please check the Mede8er Beginners Guide.

For technical assistance, please take note of the Technical support guidelines.

Ensure too that you are using the latest firmware when requesting support.

Now that was interesting news. Great!  :-*
Anything more you can let us know about future features?  ;)

Kind regards

That is indeed good news!

Is there an ETA on thios development? If it will be available soon (1 - 3 months) then I'll rather wait to see what you guys come up with before I development my own, if at all.

With regards to the artwork, I was looking for the Mede8er logos as well as the image that will be displayed at the top of the screen when viewing a movie or series using a "about.jpg" file. Not sure if these are displayed at all, I haven't even created one image like this due to my frustration with the applications already available. The sizes will be the standard ones, 4:3, 16:9 (720p & 1080p).

With regards to the text editing with MGB, I am able to do this, but there is no GUI for adding, editing or removing fields in your template.

I was just thinking to myself about what DT said about the other GUI builders, their lack of and limited features, so I decided to download them and have a look.

Movie GUI Builder, is about the best of the two, it boasts some really good web scraping features. The art designer leaves a lot to be desired, it's sluggish at the best of times and it's design is very clumsy.
In light of these short comings, I have decided to start designing my own "GUI" builder (yes I'm aware that Mede8er are working on their own), hopefully it will be better and easier to use than the other ones (with the exception of Mede8er's).

As I have yet to purchase my Mede8er MED500X (hopefully at the end of the month), I can't do any extensive testing of my app just yet, however, if any of you on the forum are willing to give it a bash, drop me a PM.

It's only been in development for the last 2 days (between work) but here's a small preview (it's not much, yet):

I'll be happy to hear any of your comments (positive or negative), input, requests, ect.

@Insomniac: Would it be at all possible to get the Mede8er fonts & overlays (PhotoShop, Corel or Transparent Png format)?

Nice work,

one option I would like is the following, as posted on the TViXie forum is fanart based backgrounds : http://www.tvixie.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=650

It would be nice if there was an option to select the photo's from IMDB (or any other source)as a background.
For example by pasting an URL in a box ?
Also if you could choose between stars or points as rating meter.

Keep up the good work!

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay and lack of replies... My house got flooded out (twice) with the recent freak flooding (in Benoni) and I had to send my drives in for disaster recovery, good news is I have managed to retrieve most of my data.

Here's a sample of what I have been working on, hopefully I'll have a beta version ready for testing by the end of Feb (or early March 2010).

Currently the app only downloads movie info from one provider but this will change in the future as users will be able to develop their own plug-ins.

You may comment and/or leave some ideas, as I will try develop this app to suite you (the end user).

If anyone would like to start testing (pre Beta, "Technical Preview" if you will), PM me your email address and I will email you the files so you can get a feel for the application (you won't receive any spam mail, I for one loath spam, emails will be sent from my private account).

I suggest you PM me your email address only if you have some technical expertise/background with software, PC's and/or media playback devices (i.e. Mede8er), testing is not for n00bs as I need quality feedback.

Please note: I will disable some functionalities of the application until I am satisfied that they are working correctly, the functions will be enabled gradually and testers emailed accordingly.
