I can report similar behavior.

Switching Off and then On again the NAS in the setup brings it up immediately. Using static IP.

Same here, lets wait for the next firmware.

For me Firmware version 2.0.1 fixed the NAS instability.
Also no core files seen anymore on the internal mede8er disk after updating to 2.0.1

Hi guys,

I still have the same NAS issues with 2.0.1. Please try this to replicate the issue:

1) I share a folder on machine A. I can access the share on my Mede8er 100% no probs.
2) I play a file off the share from machine A, from the mede8er.
3 ) I then start up machine B and access the same share on machine A from machine B.
4) As soon as I read the share on Machine A, the mede8er loses connectivity to the same share.
5) Going into the network setup page, the wireless dongle says 'could not get IP'
6) I take the dongle out and plug it back in and everything is restored, but as soon as two different machines try access the same share again, the share is lost to the mede8er again. I am using fixed IP's.

Hi dudleygb,

I tried to reproduce with my mede8er and 2 pc's (my PC A is a vista 32 and PC B is a WinXP 32).
Both PC's connected to my router with cable, mede8er connected by wireless dongle.

I am not able to reproduce following your description.
So I am afraid the problems you see are related to the slow wireless connection you have (1MB/s transfer).
My best guess is that somehow the wireless connection times out and the connection drops between your wireless router and mede8er.

As the mede8er wifi connection does no auto reconnect, only way go get the interface up is to run throught the setup or reset it  (manually "auto" connect) by hot plugging the wireless dongle..

Hi All,

I'm using mede8er firmware 1.2.2a
The first time I do turn-on the NAS and wireless setup it works perfect even if I turn-off the mede8er and/or unplug. Once I plug it on and/or power-on the mede8er, still it works fine...
But starting yesterday I can't access my Desktop (wired connected to my DIR-600 wireless router)...
Wireless network are working just fine...
So what I did is to turn-on again the NAS even if still on then access the network...
Still can't find anything shared in my desktop (definitely I can access it using my wireless laptop)...
Can somebody help me with this?

I'm afraid updating the firmware since base from the forum a lots of functionality is not working (somehow degrade)

Try to hard reset your mede8er first (by unplugging dc power plug en plug in again after some 30 secs).
Try also to hard reset your wireless router by repowering it, and try again.

Try also to hard reset your wireless router by repowering it, and try again.

The suggestion above works but definitely this is a bug. See below info:

Given state before hard reset:
1. Wireless - On
2. NAS - Off

Step by step:
1. Do hard reset including my wireless router.
2. After a minute, plug-in Mede8er and wireless router.
3. Plug-in USB wireless
    a. If auto detected, goto step 5.
    b. If not do step 4.
4. Setup secured wireless
5. Press 'Home' button and choose 'Network'
6. All devices were detected even NAS is still off... once I turned it on, no device were detected... DAMN repeat step 1.

Possible bugs:
1. Place holder for device status is not handled properly. (eg. mStatusNas, mStatusWireless, etc MUST be reset once hard reset and GUI MUST reset it too).

Comments:
1. Use handler-like-state machine.
2. Somehow this device lacks in terms of test items. This is a simple bug but hard to find when design is not good.

Still I do LOVE my Mede8er Cheesy
Hope this could help.

Hi Bobi,

You say you are using FW rev 1.2.2a.
Functionality/stability of wireless of rev 2.0.1 or higher is much better, but needs an internal formatted disk with mede8er menu at the moment. Don't know if you have an internal disk installed, but if so you could give that a try.

If no internal disk or not formatted from mede8er, you need to stay at 1.2.2a and wait for a future firmware update that doesn't have this kind or restrictions.

Hi guys,

I've also been having similar problems, though I'm not sure if they're directly related to this original post.  Below is a description.  Can anyone help ?

Thanks
William.

Problem Desciption
------------------
Wireless Connectivity Problems

Config Mede8er
--------------
Firmware version 2.02
500GB internal harddisk formatted by mede8er
standard wifi dongle
dynamic IP
NAS: On
FTP: On

Config Router
-------------
Model: Netgear WNDR3300
Firmware: V1.0.45_1.0.45
DHCP server: ON
Security: WPA2-PSK (AES)
Mode: Up to 270Mbps @ 2.4GHz

Config Laptop
-------------
Windows Vista SP2

Other Information
-----------------
Yes, I've read the beginner's guide.

Sequence of Events
------------------
After purchasing a Mede8er MED10WF Wireless N dongle, I did the following
: followed the accompanying instructions and successfully connected to my router
: signal strength = max according to Mede8er
: from my laptop I can ping - though sometimes if the connection was 'alive' for longer than a few minutes, the reply time was quite slow (> 1 sec or sometimes timed out)
: every so often the signal strength (on the System Setup --> Network screen) drops to zero.   The frequency of this is approx. once per 2 minutes
: tried to copy file (350MB) file from laptop to Mede8er.  The progress bar 'hangs'.  No error is given however.
: tried to cancel file copy.  This would only succeed if I retested the wireless connection by selecting 'Wireless Setup' --> 'Connection 1' --> Play button

Other symptoms
--------------
: often it is possible to ping the Mede8er, but it is not possible to connect via Windows Explorer (Windows keeps coming up with the Network Diagnostic window).  Switching the NAS OFF and then ON again resolves this (albeit temporarily)

I've tried the following configurations
1. Laptop and Mede8er wirelessly connected to router.  Result: NOK (not possible to copy files ... progress bar hangs as described above)
2. Laptop connected to router via cable (with wireless switched OFF); Mede8er connected wirelessly.  Result: NOK (same as above)
3. Laptop connected wirelessly to router; Mede8er connected via cable (still DHCP).  Result: OK

My conclusion therefore is that there are some communication reliability issues between the Mede8er and router when using the Wireless N dongle though I do not know what the root cause for this could be.

Configuration 3 has proven very reliable.  I do not need to reset the NAS.  In fact it just works - repeatedly !
It does however defeat the purpose of having bought the Wireless N dongle.

Hi William,

Did you try to use a file copy manager like tera copy?
Reading your post it looks like you are having some wifi connection issue....
Are you using the wifi dongle extension cable that came with your mede8er?

Hi Maasbommel,

Thanks for the fast reply !

I didn't try any file copy managers.  I did try to ftp (using the 'dos' version and monitoring the progress using the 'hash' command).  In the beginning the file was being transfered quickly and then just stopped ... very like when using Windows copy.

I am indeed using the dongle extension cable that came with the mede8er.

I agree that the issue appears to be related to the wifi connection, but it seems to be specific to the mede8er as the other 3 wireless devices I have (excluding the laptop) do not have such issues.  Incidently - those other 3 devices were off when I was testing things in order to avoid interference as a possible root cause.

Kind regards,
William.
