Hi,

Just something I noticed... The NAS capability of the Mede8er stops working after a while and only a reboot of the cool little device gets it working again.

I love using the functionality, because it is easier to push files to the Mede8er from my PC.

Thanks!

Hi engelkie,

Which firmware version are you using?
How long is 'a while'?
Were you playing movies or what were you doing on the Mede8er during the time that you switched it on & off that could have switched the NAS service off?

Please provide more details so that this issue can be duplicated as I have left my Mede8er on for 2 days consecutively before and NAS access was still working (fw v1.2.2).

Hi Insomniac,

I'm on firmware 1.2.2 and use Windows 7 on my PC.

OK, here is the scenario:

The Mede8er gets turned on in the morning, so my son can watch his movies (giving me more time to snooze).
Then I'll connect to the Mede8er (\\mede8er\c) and copy a couple of files to it.
When done, I'll watch the files and/or something else.
Then when I go back to the PC  and browse to \\mede8er to copy some more files to watch, it says the path cannot be found. Although I can ping the Mede8er.
Then I have to go to the Mede8er and enter the setup menu. I then turn the NAS off and back on again... This works 75% of the time and the UNC can be accessed again. Other times I can just unplug the network cable and plug it back in again. Otherwise I have to reboot the Mede8er for it to work again.

Thanks!

I'd like to report that I'm also having issues with NAS.

Just now my wife was watching videos from the internal hard drive and I was copying a video from it to my PC.

Halfway through the copy, I got disconnected and could not re-connect. I can still ping and telnet into it.
This has happened before.

@ Maudrid - I'm assuming also with firmware 1.2.2?

I am trying to duplicate this issue - please provide more detail:
o Are you using fixed IPs or DHCP? (I'm a fixed-IP man myself - perhaps this is the difference because I cannot replicate this.)
o Over what time-frame does this happen?
o What OS are you using?

From the info I can gather from the dialogue, it is just the NAS server that has gone down - IP can still be pinged.

Would it be possible to provide an exact step-by-step walk-through to duplicate?

o Turn on Mede8er > NAS server on
o Go to PC, copy file either up or down
o Go to Mede8er, watch movie
o Go back to PC, Mede8er NAS drive lost.

Is this pretty much it?

If you turn the NAS server off and then on again in the setup, does the Mede8er share come up again?

NOTE: The inability of being able to navigate by IP input I'd like to categorise as a bug - that 'simple html+cgi example' screen should not be there... Let's take that up in the bug thread as a separate issue.

@Insomniac

I use DHCP and queue the transfers using TeraCopy or CopyHandler.

But I think I might be on to something... If I copy to the internal drive, the NAS doesn't go down... But if I copy to an USB attached device (hard drive in this case), the NAS crashes.

Now I copy to the internal drive and then move it to the USB hard drive. This seems to work.

Aha - I haven't tried writing to a USB drive in this way - to me it would be impractical, but I'll try that.
I haven't been able to duplicate the NAS going down - for the last full day it has been up and I've been watching movies and copying files to and fro'...
I have Fixed IP and I am using Supercopier2 to move files around.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Had some issues with the forum.

I'm using a fixed IP. (192.168.137.222)
It happens in about a minute.
I'm using Windows 7 RC.
I've got a single NTFS partition on the internal HDD.

I've also noticed that after this happens, from the Mede8er's side,
I can't browse the network. Not even the XP PC I have.

I have not tried turning the NAS on and off.

...I've got a single NTFS partition on the internal HDD.

Did you format the HDD using the Mede8er GUI?
I'm not sure whether or not this NAS server uses the internal HDD SWAP partition - I'll have to find out.

It has been picked up that some Windows 7 users are having problems seeing the Mede8er SAMBA share, yet they can see it from their XP share. You indicate that the Mede8er is hidden from both?

Have you checked whether switching the NAS server On and OFF from the Mede8er SETUP resolves?

I happen to have an XP and windows 7 PC on the network.
I will try to replicate the problem again and see what happens.
I suspect that none will work since I could not even browse the network from the Mede8er's side until I restarted it.

I've experienced this last night while copying data to the mede8er. The copy process didn't  give an error, the progress bar just didn't move, I then opened another window to access the mede8er drive, but Windows kept coming up with the Network Diagnostic window. I fixed it by turning NAS off and back on. Then it was quite stable (didn't get it again)

FW: 1.2.2a
Window 7 Professional
Laptop -> AccessPoint (d-link wireless adsl router) -> d-link (gigabit) switch -> mede8er

I've read a post before about performance issues using gigabit switches. Not sure if that might be the cause.

There are some SAMBA issues being picked up with by 64bit Win7 OS users - not so with 32bit users.

Internal tests have picked up issues with gigabit switches with respect to HD streaming.
Please feel free to do some testing if you can exclude the giga switch from your setup and advise on results.

HI

I can report that I am having the same issues
Using Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 Bit
Mac OS X snow Leopad
On v1.2.2a firmware
Dovado Router

Turning NAS on and off does solve the issue for a while then it disconnects again

Thanks
