Windows 10 share
« on: December 02, 2017, 02:47:18 pm »
Hey
I had windows 7 for a long time, but i upgraded to windows 10 recently on my laptop.
With windows 7 i could always share any folder with advanced sharing and removing "all" any access and then add my regular user with readonly access to that folder. My Mede8er 600 could then in cabled network logon and play the files shared in that folder.
But now i think i do the same thing in Windows 10. The Mede8er unfortunately always writes "logon fail". The username and password are entered correctly and it is not a lowercase/uppercase error.
What to do?

Btw, mede8er has version v4.0.0 firmware

SMB1 server code has been removed from Windows 10 since wannacry. It is now SMB2 shares only.

If streaming use NFS. If moving files push from Windows 10 using Mapped Network Drives. The SMB1 client remains, but Network Dicovery no longer finds SMB1 shares for you.

Hi,
What then to do/ is there an easy other option that can easily share files readonly from windows 10 and usb drives that are not permanently connected? I connect my usbdrives to windows only(=not to the MED600) because windows is my primary platform and in the past my usbdrives got corrupted . However, i dont know if it was windows or med600 that caused the problem. I dont want data loss so i like the idea of sharing readonly from windows.
I can read about NFS in this group but how, is it free and easy?

I think it should be possible to reactivate the SMB1 server code:

Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off

Look for "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" and tick the sever component.

You may like the idea, but you can't. The X3D suppprts SMB1, and Microsoft have removed the SMB1 server code, but left the client code. You can only turn the SMB1 client on and off via Windows Features.

Please check the attached image. Maybe it is available in Windows 10 Pro only?

It looks like an oversight of the wanna cry fix. There is no server code to activate any more.

Go to "Control Panel -> Programs"
Select "Turn Windows features on or off" (requires admin rights)
There you will find "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support". Enable it!

I'm not sure. It looks like Microsoft changed their mind. My screenshot is from latest version 1709. Microsoft splits the "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" into 3 options starting with version 1709. Why should they add a new "-Server" option if they want to remove it?

But we can wait and see if it works for batman06.

It stopped working for me in the summer, and nothing I have tried makes it work.

Thank guys. I have windows 10 pro. I enabled the 'server' in the 3 part SMB 1.0 setting. I have thereby thicks in all SMB 1.0 settings. Then i rebooted. It now works with sharing as in the good old days. Merry Christmas to everyone.

If you have build 1703 the wannacry fix was to remove the server.  If you now have build 1709, the server has been put back becuase it has new server code with inbuilt wannacry protection.
I can't use 1709. It kills my AC1900 PCI wi-if card in the PC.

Turns out 1709 dosn't like win 8 drivers. I have had to replace a perfectly functional AC1900 pci-e card with the latest AC3100 card with win 10 drivers. Windows 10 sharing is now working as it did prior to 1703.

Although the router is only 3 x MIMo AC1900, careful Alignment of the four aerials on the AC3100 card now gets a stable connection of 780 Mbps.
