Stream Music to multiple DMR
« on: October 24, 2017, 09:57:01 am »
I mentioned on another topic i was trying to develop this. I decided to post progress so far.

The approach taken is to have two principle components.
Firstly an Airplay streamer using Foobar with Tuneblade.
Second an Airplay to DLNR bridge running using linux in a Virtual Box as part of the same login session as foobar.
The first part was pretty straight forward. Not so the linux bridge. I needed a linux build which would use pulsestream-dlna in multiply client mode. All will connect using module-combine-sink, but output nothing.
In the end i found unbuntu-studio.
Even then i must have multiple shairport-sync servers, one for each device, and manually switch them to specfic X3D's.
So it is working, but not automatically....yet.

It is next to impossible to auto link because the linux command uses index numbers , not names. Those change every boot.
So my current setup has 5 Airplay servers, and you use the linux Volume Control to select the DMR you want.  I autopen Volume Control on linux boot.

I still haven't given up auto linking. If a linux login only finds one device it can't do anything else but use it. So if i can create one login user for each DMR, running multiple log-ins auto links. Of course, this needs to be transparent. You don't want to log in 5 times manually to get 5 DMR's. That is no better than the current version.

This is very interesting.

I have an Android for PC port which might run in a virtual box.
