2.1.0 should work fine without HDD installed, so you can give that a try

Hi! I feel the need to open this again since I have the same problem as Wilmer. I just recieved my player and it has v 2.10. I only have an external HDD. It will play some of my mkv:s but almost half is marked as invalid files. I tried to remux with mkvmerge but then I only get audio and subtitles but no picture! Oh, and they all play perfectly in my mac. I have tried to search this forum but havent found a solution yet. Maybe I should just return it or is there an solution?

Try to post a log from MediaInfo software, maybe the video codec isn't supported .

Hey!
I downgraded to v 1.22a and now I can see all my movies! Weird. Something has gone wrong somewhere in the updated firmware. Maybe it can be fixed so even I can enjoy the latest firmware with all the bugfixes. Anyone knows about this problem?

What i see in your logs is nothing out of common. First file, it has i higher bitrate - but not too high, should give you problem only if you play it from flash usb drive ; The second file is more problematic- it has 9 reframes and i think is a experImental video file, not very sure. If i an not tricked , your files should work fine on M8R; dont find a plausable reason for such behaviour . Maybe a bad mux proces or bad encoding... The second file i have it also, with same parameters , except 9 reframes.

Ok, but the problem is they don't play in v 2.10 but I had no problem playing them when I downgraded to 1.22 a. That is kind of strange dont you think. I dont want to stay with 1.22 but I rather watch my movies than not. I am sorry to miss out of the bugfixes though.

From v2.1.0 and v3.0.4 is a little difference, don't you think? To be honest, i am one of very few that never try the v2.1.0 fw version...it didn't pass trough beta testers stages...

I also had the same problem with marten72. Tried to reencode the audio from AAC to AC3 since the output is so soft and my receiver cannot decode to 5.1 ch audio with AAC. Used the latest MKVMerge to merge the video + audio + subs to an MKV file but only subs and audio is played.
Tried upgrading to 3.04, nothing works.
Tried again, this time I just demux with MKVextract and remux with MKVMerge to check any potential mistakes during reenconding. The remuxed file played fine onmy PC but I got no video on Mede8er.
Should I rollback the firmware like marten? Is that even possible?

finally i got 2 mkv file that doesn't play with mede8er yesterday... it plays without problem on PC checking with mediainfo doesn't reveal anything when compare to my other playable mkv file. then, when i use mkvmerge to load the "non-playable" mkv file, there is this additional TAG being added in there in addition to the video and audio file. I take risk and deselect it and remux again, and voila...it plays in mede8er.... this is my recent experience, so perhaps it can give u an idea to just strip it to just audio and video for the mkv merge...see it works for ur case... i'm a happy man again... mede8er fail to dissapoint me...hehehe....

Tried again on another machine running Win XP (the one in previous post is running Win 7), and the MKV can be read! Well, although the muxing will be quite slower, at least the media file can be read.

Well, although the muxing will be quite slower, at least the media file can be read. Most people using WinxP will have installed something which will play MKV's. MKV is not supported "out of the box" with Windows7. I installed Divx Plus to get MKV support.

I never have problem playing media from my pc, since I use K-Lite Mega Codec .. Although some of my media was unable play in mede8er but it's not the player fault, some was poor encoded, some needs re-muxing, and some was corrupted ...
