I can confirm the best results on all NFS servers I have tested with the Mede8er (inc Windows7) is HaneWIN

Simple setup instructions

1) Download UPDATE http://www.hanewin.net/nfs-e.htm
2) Install
3) xxxxxx IMPORTANT xxxxxxxxx
Allow following exe's in "Windows Firewall"
Directory -- c:/Program Files/nfsd
   a)  pmapd.exe
   b)  nfssrv.exe
   c)  nfsd.exe

4) HaneWIN settings

5) Edit exports file then select "save" then select  "Restart server"

exports example for whole drive
e:\ -public -name:e

export example for folder
d:\movies -public -name:movies

6) On the Mede8er
a) Navigate to the NFS icon and enter
b) Press the Menu button on the remote
c) Enter IP of the host PC or server
d) Enter Mount name

example for whole drive ---  192.168.0.10:/e
example for folder      ---  192.168.0.10:/movies

Now you should be able to navigate to your NFS shares

In my case my host PC is connected directly to a 10/100 router and then to a 1GB switch. I have found that if you connect the Host PC directly to the 1GB switch you cannot transfer at max speed and need to change Max NFS transfer size to 8192 (bytes) NB - (Not Required for X2 and X3 Series)

Update 10 December 09 (Not Required for X2 and X3 Series)
Enable "Flow Control" on your network card settings for use on 1GB switch

I hope this is useful

Hello Mede8er1,

You mentioned the best results of all tested NFS servers was with Hanewin.  May I ask which others you tested?

Also, do you happen to know if Hanewin Trial actually times out ofter 30 days or if it just results in a registration nag screen?

Regards

Hi beartiger

I have tried just about all the other NFS servers and I purchase Pro NFS. Pro NFS is the easiest to set up BUT the latest version does not work for me at all and I find Hanewin substantially faster is you use the settings I have shown. Hanewin has not yet expired on my PC's and I think I am over the 30days so I dont really know if it will ever expire but if it does I will gladly purchase it.

Thanks for this clear hand-out. However, I can't connect to my pc anyway. Is there a need to forward the port in my router settings ? And if so, does it need to be both (Daemon and NFS) ? Thanks for your reply in advance ...

What about  "Windows Services for UNIX Version 3.5" is this a good NFS Server tool?

Equal to HaneWin?

Hi Paulo

I suppose if you can get it to work because I could not. Also very important to note that with haneWIN you can change the Max NFS transfer size and this setting is vital if you want to maximise your bandwidth to a device like the Mede8er.

I think it goes to far to give guidence howto setup NFS server on a linux system on this forum.
Just use Google on linux and NFS and you will find what you need.

I looked all over the HaneWIN website, including the 'shop' and could find no place where one could actually purchase a copy of the "NFS Server" software.

I also clicked on both "Display haneWin NFS Server Order Information" and "Order haneWin NFS Server online" buttons on the program's "NFS" tab and still couldn't get anywhere useful, other than learning that a ''private' copy would cost Euro 19.

Has anyone being able to actually purchase a legit copy? how?

You can purchase a copy from the haneWIN.net Software Shop.
Click on "Internet Server Software" > "Add to cart" (button next to NFS Server) > "Show Shopping cart" and fill out your details to complete the purchase process.

Note - a version update is available.
