Have not tried/seen this one, so cannot compare.
There are a lot of different boxes around with realtek chipset if you mean that.

....Other hardware board layout / manuafacturer / firmware / etc...

And I am not only looking at the price but also on the quality of a product.
Cannot see it from a picture, have to see it from reviews and also myself...

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers,

Why do you want Mede8er comment on this?

Realtek is selling his chip not only to Mede8er, so any company can offer such a product.
I never heard of this brand before, what isn`t a good sign as first start for me.

In general, selling a piece of HW is not the big thing, I could do it if I wanted to.
The important thing is, will there be any development afterwards, will there be support?

So this has be to checked briefly.

Those mediaplayers are worthless without proper development, support after buy.

It's called competition. It's no different from having a zillion graphics card makers all using chips from just two companies.

I would be careful about assuming this  will be a user friendly PVR jsut because it has a HDTV tuner. The Tvix range had tuners which  required a reboot. That is the code to play stored media and the code to run the tuner couldn't be resident in memory at the same time! So no "chase recording", no playing of recordings whilst making a recording. It's features where no better than a VCR with  a hard drive!

I'm a Mede8er fan... I just don't know the reason why and what should I say to anybody who ask something about it. Anyway, a friend of mine told me that their user interface (GUI) is dull and/or not so good as Mede8er.

I Love Mede8er!

It's all Taiwanese OEM fabrication. The hardware is mostly the same as all other competitors. But they lack the support, and there's not really a "community". So firmware's are never "up-to-date", full of bad English, just think where that 40% off comes from. Wink

I think there must be a firmware that just works on all Realtek based hardware, but I still need to find that piece of code!

I'm a Mede8er fan... I just don't know the reason why and what should I say to anybody who ask something about it. Anyway, a friend of mine told me that their user interface (GUI) is dull and/or not so good as Mede8er.

For a start, support. I bought my Mede8er a few months ago and when I was researching which media player to get, I ran across a unit that uses 2.5" hard drives. That made it smaller and arguably sexier than the Mede8er Smiley. However, it didn't support all the formats that the Mede8er did, including some that I desperately wanted like MKV. So I thought that maybe they'll add support with a later update. I did some research on the unit and found out that since it's launch some 11 months before my research, they haven't released a single update! No bug fixes, no new features, no new formats supported, nothing. In the meantime the Mede8er has constantly gotten better and better. In fact, of my entire video collection there was three files that couldn't play on the Mede8er. After going to 3.0 a few weeks ago it can now play those files.

Good interface, multiple output options including HDMI, full HD, support for near every video format, an included HDMI cable (which is surprisingly and IRRITATINGLY rare). Tell everybody who asks that you love the fact that even though it's a fantastic product now, it's constantly getting better.
In my circle I now have two friends who have Mede8ers at my recommendation and I'm ordering one for another friend in a few days.

Keep up the good work, Mede8er team!

Mede8er is now my thrid Box.

I start with Windows XP MCE and change later to a Box.

First was a Huh (i don´t remember) but that box was only ......!
After 2 Weeks it goes back to amazon.

Then I buy a WD Live with Network/WLAN...
It runs but there was some problems with external disks and
sometimes the Box reboots rnd.! Boottime was too long with
external disk for playing only Music. The RemoteC. was ....!
After 5 month the Box say´s "Hello E-Bay".

I want a box with internal Disk and good service/forum.
I use my mede8er now 2 month and I´am happy... my wife
understand the menu and it works.

Now I wait for the new v4 Firmeware... I´am happy thats all!
