I contacted the official support before I bought the MED. And that is what the majority of customers will do.

Now you say (generalized) that the official support has no clue of his company and their products, wow! Sorry, but this is a lousy excuse! And it is really "great" that you blame the support guy and the customer for the disinterest of the dev team. :o >:(

It's wrong when Tech Support go beyond using the product as it is. They aren't in the loop at any company. Same with sales. Both can only comment on the product "as is".

So you ring to find out what it can or cannot do. They are no position to say what it will do in the future...at any company. They shouldn't even imply it might.

Not implementing features  created out of thin air by Tech Support is not a question of disinterest. It's the tail wagging the dog.

Not implementing features created out of thin air by Tech Support is not a question of disinterest. It's the tail wagging the dog.

In my humble opinion there is a big difference between the comments "they are working on it" (= will be realized) and something like "maybe in the future" (= speculation / thin air).

But it is ok for me - I resigned to the fact that this feature will never come.

Anyway, thanks for your replies.

I get the impression Tech Support are confusing firmware upgrading with the features of a new player. So the Med Brand may have a player in the future which does it, and that is being worked on. But it doesn't mean the X3D will have flak meta data support without using tagscanner.

I am also out of loop with future players, and can only comment on the X3D "as is".

Yes, 2-3 beta versions.
But beta version is not release version. I am waiting for official release.
Beta phase generally begins when the software is feature complete but likely to contain a number of known or unknown bugs.  :D
Software release life cycle

Huh..??

There has been numerous releases and in between some beta releases.

Look here: http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/board,127.0.html

Count together since 2. jan 2015:

(1.) 4.0.0
(2.) 4.0.1 (maybe)
(3.) 4.0.2

Beta version is for testing and not for me. I would like to use my player, and not to test ;D

Lets be serious - This player was released to the public in 2012...... we are now in 2016 - that is 4 years!

Now compare with other media players from that period and how the development cycles of the firmware were on those and are still available for sale .....

We can then only conclude that Mede8er did an outstanding job to support their product to their consumers and yes, the product is after 4 years now reaching the end of sales point - simply because the manufacturer of the used chips and development kits for this HW stopped production (Realtek). And still there are people that want to buy the kit because of the great (3D) play quality compared to all the cheap Chinese Android media player boxes that are around.

This is just my personal honest opinion and has nothing todo with being a Moderator for Mede8er.

To be very honest - I have delivered many years my moderator and beta testing skills to Mede8er - for free - just because I so much liked the Mede8er products they introduced since 2009 and their outstanding focus on their customers.

In 2012 was hardware really well and firmware was fine.
Now in 2016 is HW still sufficient but FW is obsolete. Too bad that good HW must die.  :'(

Sorry, but raspberry pi 3 plus KODI  (with HDMI CEC plugin)  is a better option.

The Mede8er works, and works well. What more is needed? I see people asking for updates, but what needs to be updated? It plays all my video formats fine and supports HD audio perfectly. I connect to a Synology NAS that has over 1000+ non-compressed movies and tons of TV series. I love this thing!

There are no support for mkv 10-bit coding. I have several movies which my MedX1000 cannot play. Also some very old codecs are not supported (I cannot remember which ones). I can accept the very old movies cannot be played but the new ones. I believe there will be new fw. Or am I wrong?

All other works great and I am happy user for 2 and a half years.

Codecs cannot be upgraded. Neither can the mkv library.

Well, Realtek has a new chip: Realtek 1295DD
The competition is already using this chip in their mediaplayer.
So I think Mede8er is also building a new player based on this chip.

I'm afraid the 1186 chip was the last of the Old School chips. The future is Arm running Android. Android before was a toy. With Google now wanting us all to pay for streamed content they need this new generation of players to work well. It's overkill for those who want to play mp3. But there is no money to made from the first generation of Arm based chips. Players go for £50. The future is offering 4k VOD at a higher price.  It's the only way to break from the mobile 720p limit current devices have. So even HD users get an improvement.
