Firmware 202
INTERNAL HDD = 1T
Wired network with KPN experia box
Switch in between

With the risk of having overseen something, when I started my setup on Friday, I was able to see my mede8er on the network without any issues.
After the upgrade of firmware I am no longer able to see it in my network list from any of the pc`s (mostly Vista 32)

I can ping the IP address, but pinging the host will not resolve. NAS is on
FTP I have working, but obviously this is not what I intend to use it for...

from the mede8er I see my other pc`s, but not the shared folders on them

anyone have any suggestions to get this working?

Hi energy2000,

Have you tried to setup network connections again in the network shortcut menu?

Maasbommel,

thanks, I did try, but no luck.
If I map to my main PC, it does connect but shows empty folders. Not the shares I created.
I did create a gues account, as use userID Password for my own account.

Still the other way round I do not see the mede8er in my network nor can I resolve the name.
What did strike me when browsing on the mede8er is that if I in Network try to approach the mede8er it asks me for a userID and password as well. I have not set anything anywhere except for FTP?

Hi energy2000,

I have seen a topic about an experia box some time ago:
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=1404.msg8199#msg8199

Might it be that you are also using this port 3 on your box?

What happens when you open a browser window and type \\mede8er\hdd1 or \\ip-adres-mede8er\hdd1
(for the last fill in your ip number of your mede8er)

No I am using the switch which connects to my pc`s as well.
It is connected to the correct port on the experia.

if I \\Ip address\hdd1 it indicates address cannot be found/reached
just validated again that I can still FTP and / or ping

so I am puzzled Smiley

it is almost like it gets blocked somewhere, are there ports on the network that should be open?

just to add, in cmd I just did a tracert to the ip address and it does resolve the name to MEDE8ER there
it does not hop over the router though

Have you tried to disable firewall settings on your PC?
Also, have you tried to unplug your network components from power to get get a fresh start?

I have rebooted the router / experia box, switch and all pc`s one by one, same as for the mede8er.

NAS on / off tried that several times as well

only item where I am in doubt at the moment:

In the network settings the IP is on DHCP, and the DNS is now filled in to be the KPN Experia box IP address (router) to act as the DNS server.
which would potentially explain the resolving issue, however direct on IP I should be able to reach the machine

I expect some firewall blocking the access....
Check also your router if there is some firewall setting that could block things.

Network basic connecting like cabling etc. should be ok, because you say that you can connect by ftp to the mede8er.
So something on samba protocol level is blocked somehow.

DNS address of router gateway address should be ok, router should pass this further.
Have you checked if you are running on latest FW version of your router also?

I can try opening some ports, do you happen to know the ports it is using?

would not have to be the case would it? as most routers are equiped with firewall and NAT should do the job?

Small breakthrough,

In Vista I disabled the sharing with userID and password only and now the mede8er was able to see my shared folders on my PC.
The other way round however, my PC is still not seeing the mede8er

I am still thinking some firewall is blocking things...
You can try to disable you pc firewall temporary to see if you are able to connect.
Also check your router if there is some filtering or firewall enable and disable it temporary.

Have you also checked http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=794.0 and this http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=64.msg217#msg217
