Hi,
does Mede8er supports HDMI CEC standard (also known as viera link on panasonic , easy link on philips, BRAVIA Sync on sony ..) ?

I am using Panasonic  plasma 37x10y , Philips DVD 3360 player (supporting HDMI CEC, implemented as easy link) and mede8er multimedia player.
My wish is that TV automatically detect turned device and switch on it.
If I connect both devices (DVD and mede8er via HDMI regardless of order) this is not happening.
But if I connect only DVD automatic dettection is working and on TV it is shown EC/HDMI1.

Does anyone has similar experience?

Hi Botia,

Please use the search option on the forum contents, look for HDMI CEC and you will find more postings regarding this subject.

E.g. http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=1326.0
I think this will answer the question you have.

HDMI CEC does not have a real standard, every brand is just implementing a variant of this with its own propriety code, just from commercial point to "bind" you with their own equipment. So rather impossible for mede8er to implement something like this.....

Check your manual. On my panasonic "any" device connected to HDMI1 will auto switch to that input. All the other HDMI inputs require Viera Link.
So  your Philips DVD may  work becuase it's connected to HDMI1, not becuase it's Viera Link compatible. Try it on another HDMI input. If it still auto switch's then you may find you can then connect the med500x to HDMI1 and get the auto switch as well.

thanks, I used search but with wrong keywords Smiley

anyhow, I see the point,
but I would like that someone from mede8er team check and test this feature, and try to implement something (maybe in new software) which will cause less damage Smiley

e.g. my panasonic TV and philips DVD are working together although all functions are not available, maybe to implement some options in order to allow user to chose TV brand for HDMI CEC setup ?

jer1956 which TV are you using?

I still think you didn't understand my post...

As long as those specific HDMI CEC are propriety (not open to the outside world) it is impossible to implement a feature like this. If the brands don't tell what the correct command are, then you cannot program it....
As long the big brands like Sony, Philips, etc, don't agree on a standard (and why should they, they will just say buy equipment of our brand if you want this feature to work) it is just impossible.

Better to look for a remote control that can do the job of switching devices automatically, such as a Logitech Harmony.
That is a feasible solution for this, and I know a lot of us are using such a remote (I also do).
It works like a charm and you can get rid of all other remotes, just put them in a drawer...)

thanks for the explanation,
my only wish is that TV switches on corresponding HDMI input when detect signal (dvd or something else is switched on)...

I already have universal remote, but I would like to have something which was available via SCART before (irelevant of device brand, if you connect it to SCART and switch it on TV will automatically switch on it )

Scart is totally different, it is an analog signal. Mus easier.
HDMI is digital signal, with communication protocol.....

What you want is not possible for Mede8er to implement as long as there is no standard for it, but it seems that I am not able to convince you of that....

OK,
you convinced me, and thanks a million for quick support and reply  Cheesy

you said that logitech remote will solve my problem,, e.g.  if I turn  DVD on via logitech remote TV will switch on corresponding input (e.g. HDMI1) and connected device will be turned on (e.g. DVD),

than I will look for one,

once again,
thanks for the quick support!!!

Hi Maasbommel,
I totally agree with you, but I'm wondering why Mede8er is bothering the CEC-communication at all. I have no problem, when Mede8er is not supporting CEC (especially auto turn on/off), but it's unacceptable that it bothers CEC between other devices. In my setup I have a Technisat DVB-S receiver and a Panasonic Plasma TV. I enabled CEC-settings on both devices but auto turn on/off wasn't working unless I disconnected my Mede8er from the TV. My current solution would be to cut pin 13 of the HDMI cable between the Mede8er and the TV.
I would like to hear your comments on that.
Thank you!

There is an announcment in Tech Issues where by sanji will allow a mod to the board and it remain under  warrenty......providing it's done by a recognised engineer.

Thanx for that. It confirms that cutting Pin 13 on the HDMI-cable will solve the problem. Working on the board is too risky for me.
