formating a hdd from mede8er menu can be done only under fw v1.2.2a , so far. the new v3.0 will do a better job- we hope.
just format hdd under v1.2.2a.
we recommend you to make a extra format of hdd, like Maasbommel suggeted , because is very possible that mede8er is not able to wipe all sectors from sector 0- to xxx sector.
remeember until now ,for format hdd use only v1.2.2a.

OK, i will try to wipe the disk with telnet and then format the HDD in the Mede8er under FW 1.2.2a.
I hope i understand how to wipe the disk with telnet and that the HDD then works in the Mede8er.
@tachita: I do all the steps you give to me and donīt jump some! ;-)
I will come back with the results.
Thanks
Markus

Hi,
today i find time to test the thing with telnet Maasbommel gives to me.
And i am surprised, now i see a free space of 2TB.
After Telnet commands i format the HDD under 1.2.2a and see the free space. Then i upgrade to 2.0.2 via Emergency upgrade procedure and i also see free space.
Next i will try to copy some Data to the HDD.
Is it normal that i see no C: or HDD1 under Mediathek-->HDD ?
Did anyone knwo what "Ken Burns" means under "Other Settings"?
Thanks and Regards
Markus

Hi,
i have copy some data (movie, music, pictures) to some folders i have created first on the Mede8er and if i go to the mediathek i directly see this folders and files and can play/hear/see them.
I also know what Ken Burns means. If activated, pictures will automatically zoom in and out. So i have deactivate it.
After i copy the Data (ca. 6GB) i still see 2TB free space under Systeminformations. Is this normal?
I will try to copy some more Data and wait over night if it will also works tomorrow.
Markus

Hi,
so i have copy more data to the internal HDD and i can see them also on the Mede8er when connected to TV. Also i now see the free space after i copy the data. Now i will copy the rest of the data and hope that i will be also in a few days/weeks.
What will happen with the HDD when a new Firmware will come? Did the HDD then works like before or do i lose all the data?
Regards
Markus

Hi Tama,
During a normal upgrade your data on it should be ok.

Hi Markus,
What I mean with normal upgrade is: - reading release notes and following upgrade instructions step by step
Abnormal upgrade: - not reading release notes and just give it a try on own insight..... (I have seen it a lot when the new 2.0.2 release came out)
And if you want to be 100% sure never to loose data: be sure to have a backup of your media files....
From my experience as a beta tester I can say that I have done upgrades and downgrades a lot, far more than the average user... Never lost data.
Things I always take into account before upgrading: - first remove all extra devices on usb, remove extra usb stick or disc, remove wifi usb stick, so only video and audio (or hdmi only) attached - then powerdown and unplug power (to have a fresh start) - use a fresh formatted (full formatted) usb flash disk and place FW on it - then power up and follow upgrade instructions step by step - after upgrading, power down, unplug power and replug power - power up and check all settings -start enjoying the new firmware
regards, Maasbommel

Hi Maasbommel,
ok i understand.
A backup is good, but who have a backup of 700GB of Mediadata? I donīt have it, because i only have one 2TB HDD which is in the Mede8er. OK i have copy it from other HDDīs but if i get new data i donīt have the space so i need to delete the other data from it and only have it on the Mede8er. OK i can by another 2TB HDD in an external case but then i need to copy the data for 2 times and that needs time. The copying of the data from 2 external 2,3" HDDīs to the Mede8er takes a lot of time (i have copy it over 2 nights)!
Thanks for all your help regarding my problem which is now solved! ;-) A lot of thanks to Tachita and Maasbommel.
Markus

Lucky me, I hope. Just got my new Mede8er today with a Samsung EcoGreen F3 1TB drive. Checked the firmware version without HDD. It is version 2.1.0. which is newer than officially released. After that I installed the HDD. After power up the Mede8er the internal HDD showed up as HDD1. Formatting the drive without problem, and showing 931MB free space. Checking with Windows Vista diskmanagment and showing 3 partitions. One large NTFS partition 931MB and two primary unknown partitions of 157MB each. There is also 158MB unused space. Total amount of space is more than 1TB, but it is working fine for now. So far so good. Just put on some files, movies, pictures, dvd ISO an Video_TS files. All files can be played without problem. Looks that the formatting issue was solved in firmware 2.1.0?

Yes, that is fixed in 2.1.0 This fw is just released as an intermediate version. See the download section. Read the release notes and see what is fixed in this version.
