High prices in the UK
« on: February 13, 2015, 04:22:05 pm »
I've been thinking of buying a MED800X3D for a while now.
I finally took the plunge when visiting The Netherlands last week, the price was WAY cheaper than here in the UK.
Media Markt sold me one for 159EU  = 120UKP, that's 30UKP cheaper than anyone in the UK.
Considering the fact that VAT is slightly higher in The Netherlands, this was a really good deal.
I also noticed that the MED600X3D was also nearly 20UKP cheaper over there
It's a pity that once again shopping in the UK seems to attract a premium on pricing.

Have you considered that  the stock  was bought when the pound was weaker against the euro?   Both could have imported at the same  price some time ago. There have been dramatic currency fluctuations recently, making imports and foreign holidays cheaper, but destroying any profits for UK exporters.

Over recent months the Euro has dropped in value by around 6% against the GBP.
The difference in the price of the MED800X3D is currently about 25%.
So assuming old stock several months old that's still nearly 20% difference.
I think perhaps the lack of competition in the UK could be a factor.
There only seems to be 4 main suppliers and all have virtually identical pricing.
