Howto configure NFS on Synology Disk Stations
Tested for Synology DSM 3.1 and Mede8er V4
Notes: - Use fixed IP-addresses for your Disk Station and Mede8er, e.g. 192.168.xxx.yyy. (recommended). - After an upgrade of your Mede8er to version 4 you have to reconfigure the settings on your Mede8er (see below).
My configuration: MyDiskstation with media content: Synology DS209+II 192.168.110.4 (network name: my-ds) MyMediaplayer: Med500X 500GB 192.168.110.5 (network name: my_mp; note: a minus character in the Mede8er network name is not allowed; use an underscore character instead!)
Settings on DiskStation (DSM 3.1): =============================================================== Select Control Panel icon Select Win/Mac\/NFS icon Select NFS Service tab Check Enable NFS
Select Shared Folder icon Select video folder Select Button NFS privileges Select Create
Hostname or IP* (of your mede8er): All the following will work: * or 192.168.110.* or 192.168.110.5 (change IP-address according to your network settings) Note: The following wil NOT work: The network name (e.g. my_mp)
Privilege: Choose (all will work); Read only or Read/Write
Root squash: Choose (all will work); No mapping or Map to admin or Map to guest ===============================================================
Settings on Mede8er (V4): =============================================================== System Setup Network Wired lan setup 192.168.110.5 (change IP-address according to your network settings)
Host name: my_mp (choose the name of your mede8er)
Media Library NFS MENU button add a share to the video folder at my-ds (choose the name of your disk station) Host IP 192.168.110.4 (change IP-address according to your network settings) Folder volume1/video (a / is added automatically at the begin) OK The following entry appeares: 192.168.110.4:/volume1/video
===============================================================
Done!
Select a video: Media library NFS select one of the shown folders The top row shows: NFS mnt Select a directory e.g. _Documentaires The top row shows: NFS mnt/_Documentaires
===============================================================
Have fun ! Luc

Of course, just change the settings to fit your NAS IP.

Can you supply more details to get an idea and help you to move forward on this: What Synology NAS are you using? And what path did you used to configure the NFS shortcut on your Mede8er? What mede8er do you have?

Hi;
I'm seeing the same problem last time, the guide above is really details, but one thing i miss out is that med500x doesn't support jumbo frame (since it is 100mbps only), hence your Disk Station need to ensure the network connection is 1000mbps with jumbo frame off.
Once i set this, the med can connect to the Disk Station. On Med500x2,it is capable of 1000mbps, but still not support jumbo frame, you might want to check on that and set the DiskStation network connection properly.
hope this help.

Hi Silly Bear,
I also have a Synology (409 Slim). NFS is working with the X2 for me.
Some tips: - set jumbo frames to off in your Synology Network setup (use default 1500 mtu size). - configure NFS for your share(s) and be sure to give NFS acces to the ip number of your mede8er in NFS setup on your Synology NAS - then in mede8er, goto NFS network setup and add the ip number of your nas and also the correct NFS path as stated in the NFS setup screen of your Synology NAS. Im going crazy all i get is "failed" when i try to connect
Ive got a dlink dir655 in the netowork as well, and ports i should open there to get it to work?
My folder is called Hd Stuff, does the foldername work?, i see in the guides that the folders always have a name with no space inbetween does that matter?

Now......if i want this to work from a freinds Mede8er on a diffrent netowork what do i do
Im guessing im putting in his ip in my NFS settings on my nas, but i need to open a port or something right?
He cant just write in my ip in his mede8er right? he needs to put in a port ? with port controls NFS?

A bridge lan, or via the internet? Most of us don't have broadband which works at Lan speeds. ADSL upload is impossible without significant re-compression, as done by the Slingbox.

So how well would your lan stream with a 10 mbps capacity? And his ISP is likely to be running QOS, meaning a lot less than 10 will actually be available.
