I can only give one, as I rarely use the sub search function (most subs are automatically downloaded):

Forever.2014.S01E10.HD.TV.mkv

The search box only showed "Forever".

Do you get a looking glass top right?  It could be the TV has been jukeboxed and the search is based on the folder name...which is OK for movies.

I use the scan function for my tv series to get proper looking folders without the extra jpg's; no idea if that means it is jukeboxed.

Just checked, and yes, I get a looking glass when I search for subs.

Here is another show with the same problem:

Doctor.Who.2005.S08E09.1080p.WEB-DL-ECI.mkv

The subtitle search box just says "Doctor Who".

But with:

About.a.Boy.S02E06.1080p.WEB-DL.mkv

I get a season and episode number, although the file name is slightly changed:

About a.Boy S02E06

I guess the year in the names of some shows is causing the problem.

This is not according to normal naming conventions for series.
You will get also issues using other external scrapers or e.g. XBMC with this kind of names.

Just my 2 cents.....

Still some translation error in Dutch.

Not sure what you mean by "normal naming conventions". I guess you refer to the year in the file name?

This is how the shows are downloaded from usenet using standard software. On addic7ed.com, they specifically ask if "Forever (2014)" is what is being looked for.

I have no episodes left of Forever, but the other show I mentioned, Doctor Who, uses the same method of file naming.
XBMC works just fine with it, it shows the correct show and all the available episodes.

What I mean with standard naming convention is as defined in the mede8er TV series guide. If you move away from that you are at risk it does not work. Simular risk you have if you move away from naming conventions mentioned by other scrapers. And sure usenet downloads can have all of crapy naming.  But is that then the standard to follow?

We are not talking about crappy names, but about the standard way standard downloads are postprocessed by standard download software.

What exactly is wrong with the naming of these episodes? If it is the year, why not just say so?

Thanks, but if it is too much trouble to just say what is wrong with it according to this User's guide, even though I believe it to be a very standard file name, just leave it, I have no time or interest to go reading a guide.

The file names I use are standard; they work in every player I have tried (including the Mede8er) and in XBMC and they are produced by very common software using default settings.

As I stated before, most of my subs are already downloaded automatically. I just wanted to point out a problem that I encountered in this specific sub search function so maybe it can be corrected.

If someone knows what the problem could be, let them say so. Just pointing to a user's guide is not helpful.

drfruit's naming convention for those particular shows is actually correct. There are two shows named Forever, and the one he has is listed as Forever (2014), which should be named Forever.2014.SxxExx.Whatever.ext. The same goes for Doctor Who (2005). This is not to say there isn't potentially something else wrong in the folder/file structure or elsewhere.

Thanks for confirming.

The problem is not on my side, as in other shows that do not have a year in the file name, the improved sub search function works correctly.

It seems obvious that the search function is confused by the year in the file name, as it is the only difference between the cases where it works correctly and the ones where it only shows the part before the year (which is the show title).

Forever.2014.S01E10.HD.TV.mkv

Doctor.Who.2005.S08E09.1080p.WEB-DL-ECI.mkv

Just an idea: you might try with Forever.(2014).SxxExx... and Doctor.Who.(2005).SxxExx...
