Don't use:

mount -o remount,rw /

to unmount the root filesystem and edit the smb files. The Mede8er cannot write the files back and the only recover is a new firmware flash.

Somehow it is in flash and it will be corrupted.

Change of workgroup seems to be possible with the modded version of Shizzl:

Yep, the only solution so far. I was thinking of modding the startup script under linux and copy the smb files from the harddisk on boot before nas support is loaded. But not needed with custom firmware.

Is there something new from 2010 and rename Workgroup name on 500X2...is it possible now???
