Since V3.0.7_20Aug2014 BETA firmware and up the X3D familiy now also supports local trailers on top of the online Internet Streaming Trailer function.

For the ones that don't want to use the Internet Streaming Trailer option, can now put also local trailer media files in place to use the trailer function.

Instructions
Copy Movie Trailers into Movie Folders
Name the Movie Trailers 'xxxxx.trailer.*'   xxxxxx = any name    * = extension
If X3D finds the local trailer it will play it from Trailer Play Icon on the info sheet (about.jpg) and if not it will play the YouTube Trailer as normal if the xml has the <Videos> node.

Looking for a tool that can help to make this process easier, I found the following tool that can automate this:

Media Companion: https://mediacompanion.codeplex.com/

A short howto below.
Be carefull to set all advised settings to prevent overwriting your scraped covers and backdrops or getting all kind of undesired files in your movie folders.
Use of this tool is for your own risk  ;D .

Method 1:
1] Download Media Companion and install it on your PC and verifiy if you meet the requirements (.NET installed).
2] In the Media Companion 3.598 folder, delete the whole Settings folder.
3] Download this settings file: http://www.mede8er.org/Maasbommel/Settings.rar
4] Unrar the Settings.rar file, and copy the Settings folder and its content in the Media Companion 3.598 folder (be sure that you did not start Media Companion program yet).
5] Now start Media Companion with Media Companion.exe
6] Under Folders add the movie folders you want to add trailers to and press Save&Refresh
7] Under Main Browser press the Search button
It will now start downloading trailers and add them to your movie folders.
It will also create an .nfo file. Could not find a way to prevent that. It has no impact on the functions of your Mede8er so it is ok.

Method 2 (manually set all settings):
1] Download Media Companion and install it on your PC and verifiy if you meet the requirements (.NET installed).
2] Advised to use following settings http://www.mede8er.org/Maasbommel/Media%20Companion%20settings.pdf
3] Under Folders add the movie folders you want to add trailers to and press Save&Refresh
4] Under Main Browser press the Search button
It will now start downloading trailers and add them to your movie folders.
It will also create an .nfo file. Could not find a way to prevent that. It has no impact on the functions of your Mede8er so it is ok.

That's it.
I did not use any of the other functions of the program,
It has lots of other features but they are not compatible with the Mede8er cover and backdrop features for what I could see.
Advised to not use those or you might end up with all kind of changes that you don't really want!

If you want to share your experiences wih this tool in this thread - be free to do that.
However don't expect any support from Mede8er on this, use the program as it is........
For downloading trailers it works pretty good I can say from my own tests.

I've tried this and in my opinion, it works ok. Not terific.
I've tried like 10 movies and for one movie he could not download the trailer: Abduction (2011).
The message I got was: The link is not valid!

I'm hoping the normal way of scraping will lead to a 'fix' where the mede8er will play the trailer (from themoviedb.org) based on the selected scraper language in the setup menu. On the website of themoviedb.org lots of trailers have subtitles when you've selected your own language. That would be a great fix for people who cannot understand English.

Isn't there a way to download trailers with subtitles by using Media Companion?

This tool has been found to be used "as is" with the minimal code change done to support local trailers. There is no plan to support scraping trailers for this new feature at this time.

If you have a particular need, do what we did. Google and see if something exists.

The companion makes filenames different from the specified format.

Specified: NameNameName.trailer.ext
Companion creates: NameNameName-trailer.ext

Both formats work, by the way.

Simply amazing!  I never dreamed that there would be a way to do this natively via firmware upgrade.  I've been painstakingly doing this very same thing manually...downloading trailers from youtube for each of my 656 movies.  A little here, a little there.  I wish that this was available before i started this project.  But I've only gotten through the "r"'s on one (out of 2) of my movie drives.  So i've downloaded more than 375 trailers so far.  But this will still greatly come in handy for the rest!

It seems very accurate (so far...I just started..it's going to take a long time understandably).  I especially love that it downloads the trailer in the highest quality possible...even 1080p when available!

It also even works in Library View (NOT in jukebox mode...which i loathe).  In media library, you just have to hit "info" remote button on the movie folder and the fanart pops ups with the trailer button at the top-right of the screen (at least when using Yadis...that's what i use for scraping).

My only complaint/suggestion at this time, would be to make the trailer button more obvious.  It is such a tiny icon, and to me doesn't really relay the fact that there is a trailer feature. I can barely tell if it's selected or not.  In fact, when i first went to test out this new function, i thought that it wasn't working, as i didn't see anything that said "trailer" (yes..i probably should've read the instructions...but who really does that?).  My technologically impaired mother-in-law certainly isn't going to read them...or remember what i showed her before we left for the movies, while she baby-sits by son.

I would suggest putting a bigger button..maybe a nice big blue button with white text that SAYS the word "Trailer" or "View Trailer"...or something like that...just, "Trailer", would probably be the most unobtrusive.  But if you're not willing to put text...a bigger button would be much more user friendly.  Just my humble 2-cent opinion for what it's worth.

Also...a dedicated button (in addition to how you it currently works) that just plays the trailer when on info sheet would be nice as well.

All in all...Truly, truly amazing...all i can say is THANK YOU!!

Tested it with a small section of my collection and it found and downloaded trailers to all the movies. Even those with limited appeal or sales volume.  ;D

Provides for a much faster option to view a trailer when browsing the Mede8er Jukebox.

Only need a way to ensure Plex server does not incorporate the trailer videos in it's database of movies!

Did experience an issue after 1341 movies scanned and trailers downloaded (after 1,5 days). The software continued to scan the remainder movies in my collection (1722 in total) but did not store any movie trailers from titles starting with a "T" and onwards. Manually rescanning a movie in the problem segment (T to Z) did resolve the issue, but would not allow a batch process for all of the missing trailers for movies between T and Z.

Cleared all cache files, yet still no automatical rescrap of the movies T to Z that was missing their trailers. I then saw that it would not rescan all the movies completely as the moviename.nfo file possibly indicated to the program it has already been scanned. I then deleted all the *.nfo files from all the movies in the problem segment T-Z. Now the program has rescanned these movies and started with the downloading of the trailers that was not done in the first batch.

So the helpful lesson learned is that removal of the moviename.nfo file forces the software to think this is a new movie that still has to be scanned and trailer downloaded.  :D

There's one major flaw that i can't seem to get around.  Trailer downloads work great.  However if you have an .nfo file in your movie folder, it totally takes it over, overwriting whatever you had in it.  Example, for every movie that I have, i create an .nfo file with just the imdb link in it.  I don't use YAMJ anymore, but if i remember correctly, yamj can use a file like this (nfo with imdb link) to find the movie to download the xml material.  It looks like the trailer downloader overwrites the nfo with all of the movie info (actors and such) that the xml fle (which mede8er uses) would look like.  Here's an example of junk it put into one of my basic nfo files..

I was able to strip some of the stuff by messing with the settings, but i couldn't find a setting that prevented the program from messing with my nfo files as a whole.

Now, the 650 nfo files that i manually created are garbage!!  While i'm asking questions, is there any program that will scan and create nfo files that just have the imdb link in it?
