" not sure why I would want to go out to youtube."
I'm with you. Trailer feature could be provided without all the logistics required. And with all the work required, what happens on the day Google, and they will, changes something about YouTube access? That has happened. Google can change their API at a moment's notice.
If you can't figure out what a movie you already own and have archived so as to be available to the media server looking at about.jpg and the folder.jpg I'd say you have a bigger issue beyond what trailers resolve.
The amount of time spent in development for this thing keeps growing and growing.
So is this feature enabling folks to not own the movie archive they've put on their media server? Some folks are downloading pirated copies and need a trailer feature because they really don't know what's on their media server storage?
Is that what no one wants to discuss openly? Pirated copies with pirated sub titles down loaded to media storage and folks need a youtube trailer to see what they've down loaded?
What are you talking about...!?
How did we go from trailers to pirated copies.....
The reason that I - and I am sure most people as well - want a trailer, is to see a presentation of what you can expect from the movie. You cannot see that from just watching some seconds of the actual movie (what you call a preview).
When I rip my DVDs and Bly-rays, I only rip the movie itself to save space on my NAS. Even if the actual DVD/BD had the trailer in the extras (which often it does not), I prefer to get it from an online source.
It is simply an insult that you accuse the people who wants the trailers online, to be using pirated copies
