Firmware v40.0.6 not installing on MED400X
« on: June 09, 2014, 03:39:41 pm »
Hi,

I want to upgrade the firmware of my MED400x from v4.0.4 to v4.0.6. However, the firmware is not installing  ???

I did the following,

1. Downloaded the latest firmware v4.0.6 from here http://www.mede8er.org/Firmware_Final/MED500X/MED400X_V4.0.6_INC_HDaudio.zip
2. Followed the instruction as described (emergency procedure). I only got the E8E logo and nothing happened. The LED on the front fascia of the Mede8er did not flash red-blue. However, the USB flash led was blinking the whole time.

I tried to update the bootloader as it was instructed (in case firmware update does not work).

1. Downloaded the bootloader from here http://www.mede8er.org/public_beta/0017L_bootloader_patch.rar
2. Unrared and copied to the root folder of USB flash.
3. Followed the procedure as it was described. However, the result was exactly the same as above. I only got the E8E logo and nothing happened. The LED on the front fascia of the Mede8er did not flash red-blue. However, the USB flash led was blinking the whole time.

I reformatted the USB flash using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - CHIP-Installer and then tried to update the bootloader again. The result was the same as above again. Upgrading the firmware after reformatting the USB flash using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - CHIP-Installer was not successful either and the result was the same. I only got the E8E logo and nothing happened. The LED on the front fascia of the Mede8er did not flash red-blue. However, the USB flash led was blinking the whole time.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you connecting HDMI via an amp?

The x1 was often hanging during this process if the edid transfer hung. Users would have to do it using composite video instead, and then go back to hdmi.

So have you tried 4.0.5 already and got the invalid hardware message? 4.0.6 has no more features than 4.0.5, its just a fix for those who have that problem.

Correct! The MED400X is connected via HDMI to TV through an amp. What if I connect it directly to TV via HDMI and then start the upgrade? Or should it be connected via composite?

I have not tried v4.0.5 yet. Since I am still on v4.0.4 I thought to upgrade directly the latest version.

We have tried to make it clear...4.0.5 was the last ever feature set for this model, 4.0.6 is only changed to add an  install fix for a small number who get an error message after installing 4.0.5.

So install 4.0.5 with the player connected directly to the TV, using emergency install. If that hangs, try again using composite.
