USB CONNECTION TO PC
You can transfer files to and from the Mede8er via fast USB2.0 transfer. Use the included USB cable to connect the Mede8er MED500X to your PC. As soon as the cable from the Mede8er is connected to your PC the front LED on the Mede8er will switch off. To make the USB connection press the on/off button on the Mede8er and the LED will pulse blue then red then blue and switch off. The Mede8er will now connect.
The computer will automatically install the correct drivers and then you will be able to navigate the Mede8er like any normal external USB drive.
EXTERNAL USB DEVICE DRIVER NOT REQUIRED
NOTE: This described method of course only works if you have an internal disk in your Mede8er
Some general notes regarding using usb attached devices to prevent dataloss:
1. never unplug power on mede8er or pc when a copy action is taking place
2. never unplug usb cable when copy action over usb cable is taking place
3. use the following process when finish copying:
- use safe remove option on your PC before unplugging any usb device from your PC
- then unplug cable
- wait until blue led is on again on your mede8er
- then press the power button on your mede8er and wait until disk is spin down and led is red or off
- then unplug power of your mede8er to move it to your TV again
It is adviced to use a 3rd-party copy manager such as TeraCopy or SuperCopier2. This will prevent starting multiple copies at the same time with windows explorer and so chocking the copy proces.

Yes, you need to supply power to your mede8er when it is connected by usb cable to your PC.

Maasbommel. Bedankt. Is het dan niet makkelijker om hem gewoon te laten staan in de huiskamer en de files via externe HD te vullen? Heb een TB HD in m'n Mede8er. Of gaat dat een stuk langzamer?

I just tried that but using a external HDD the transfer rate via USB to the internal HDD is slower then connecting the unit to your PC (only for bulk transfer)

 I tried hooking up to my PC. But after a couple of minutes it says it can write to it any more. Seems the connection failes. It only happens with large files i.e. an Iso file of 4GB. Is it something inside the Box that needs to be set?

Is it something inside the Box that needs to be set? Are you using the original usb cable that came with the mede8er? What operating system you are using? Windows7? If using Windows 7, check if you can find a newer Bios for your PC, this seems to solve USB troubles for Win7 users.... If you are using a PC bios that is not supporting Win7 then you can get strange usb problems I have seen. |

Internal HD is formatted with the Mede8er. It becomes to my knowledge Linux Partitions. Can't do a thing about it. Will it accept anything over 4GB?

If you formatted your Mede8er disk from Mede8er menu, it contains one NTFS partition and 2 linux partitions.
The NTFS partition is the one you see when connecting to Windows.
I suggest the following:
- connect your mede8er to your pc
- open a dosbox and rund chkdsk/f on the mede8er disk
- check again if this solves your problems
I guess you already tried a different USB port on your PC?
If not: check if your mede8er internal disk is correctly formatted from mede8er menu, so check if you see the special partitions. A howto is in the freq asked questions of the Mede8er Beginners Guide.

No but thanks. Iso and DVD i will burn. All other video and audio files i'll transfer via external HDD drives with power through USB. Goes fast enough. I have 3 of those. 500GB. 320 GB and 160GB. So room enough for transfer. I can let the Mede8er stay in the living room and download and save or move in the PC room. So no moving anymore and no PC connection.

What is your advice consering the tranfer via FTP and / or LAN?
By the way, is there any chance the bugy filesystem will affect external HD's / SD's (NTFS formated) too?

Hi Sanderr, I would advise to use TeraCopy or another file copy tool also for copy using samba or ftp network transfer. Look in here http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=10.0 to find it. Personally I don't believe in the buggy filesystem theory, have never had it on both of my mede8ers since I have them (nov 09). Thinking more in people suffering from disc vendor issues or other hardware defects and user errors.... regards, Maasbommel |

I'm terribly sorry- but my searching has been unsuccessful and I just don't know how it's working...
Right now I'm trying to copy something from my USB HD to my internal HD - how exactly do I do that?
I can crate new folders and all and the source is no problem as well, but how do I confirm the process?
