Mede8er loses file listing after external drive spins down
« on: December 25, 2013, 10:07:19 PM »
Hi all

Mede8er 300X
WD Elements Desktop External Hard Drive 2 TB, USB 3.0 (WDBAAU0020HBK)

The following happens...

1. Access the USB drive after plugging it in
2. Files list perfectly
3. Play a movie - no problem
4. Stop movie, and don't watch anything else on this drive for a while (say 20 minutes)
5. Access USB again
6. The directories in the root are there (movies, series, etc.), but when you access any of those root directories, no files are listed. I can see that the Med is trying to access the drive (spinning Med logo), but after a few seconds it gives me a blank listing.
7. The only way to get the file listing back is to either unplug the drive (and plug back in), or switch Med off and back on again.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the WD Green drives going into "power saving" mode after a few minutes of inactivity. But surely the Med should be able to re-scan the drive when it comes out of power saving mode?

Any help will be appreciated.
