There is no bluray decryption code with bd lite, the only code recent media players (without an optical drive) are allowed to use by bd.org.

Only players with an internal optical  drive (or space for it) will have a licence of the full bd code, the extra cost of which is  passed on to  the user. That code will not play  rips, so such players also need bd lite for those.

So... the answer is no? Not possible to attach an USB Bluray player to the Mede8er?

Not to play retail  disks. Even self made disks are an issue as the overheads are higher playing such  disks and those who try this  report stutter as a result.

Thanks, Jer...

I'm reading the specs of the samsung SE-506AB/TSBD... it says it has AV Connectivity... meaning it can connect to TV's over USB...

System Requirements for using the AV Connectivity Function
• OS: Linux, WinCE, Android Tablet (Honeycomb 3.1 or above with USB Port)
• Device function: Video, photo & music file playing function through a USB interface
• USB port current: 1.4 A or higher

Still doesnt work with Mede8er?

These things require a lincence...and sony are in constant battle to try and make it impossible for rip players to have access to the full bd code.  The media players in Smart TV's can't play bd rips, so sony have no issue with letting them play full bd the way you describe.

We don't live in a plug'n'play world where any 2 pieces of kit you like will work together. We actually live in a system builders worlds where only selected compatible kit will  work together.

What has this  got to  do  with the x3d?  He is confirming that  the TV has the full BD code to  support an  attached bd player.  You keep  assuming that if one device can do  something..every device can.

The Med could only get a licnce to  do  that if they disable all support for playing rips, rips your TV can't play in order to  get it's licence.

I was assuming the full code was on the Samsung Bluray writer/player and not on the TV cause desktop Bluray players can be connected to any TV and play the Bluray movies.

That is basically a drive. It doesn't play the discs as such you still need software with a licence to view the content of a disc. Something like PowerDVD on a PC

So you're saying the TV has the Bluray license? Sorry but that doesn´t make sense.

Desktop Bluray players has that license, right? Why wont this one have a license if samsung claims that it's AV capable via USB?

Sorry but I'm just not getting it.

I think it comes bundled with PowerDVD so that's a clue. I think this drive is aimed at people who want to plug it into a laptop or something. On Samsung's website it is billed as a PC peripheral:

http://www.samsung.com/sg/consumer/pc-peripherals-printer/optical-disc-drive/slim-dvd-writer/SE-506AB/TSBD

Looks to me like a plain old optical drive that can read data stored on a blu ray disc.. Like when you get a DVD drive in a PC. That by itself doesn't mean the PC can play DVDs there is normally software required on the PC which has a licence.

Not sure that the AV connectivity it is referring to actually means. It has a USB port that's it

Just spotted the AV connectivity that it mentions on that page I linked to. I take that to mean that if your TV is capable of playing files from the drive then it can. I take that to me if you put some MP3s or AVIs on a disc then you can play them back directly on the TV if the TV supports that functionality. There is no mention anywhere of things like Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD which I would expect on a product that had a BD licence.
