V3.0.2 - 10 Jan 2014 X3D Series
« on: January 09, 2014, 06:52:06 am »

We urge you to firstly read the V3 Specific User Manual before just making posts about things not working correctly.

NOTE: All Hard drives must have a unique name for correct functionality with V3 firmware. Connect the Hard Drive to your Windows PC and in My Computer right click the Drive icon and you can give the Hard Drive a name. Remember that each drive must have a unique name example Hard Drive1, Hard Drive2 etc etc

Win7, 8, 8.1 users - Safe Removal is incompatible with the linux NTFS code. Instead use Utility to Eject the Mede8er (or shared external USB drive) - USB Disk Ejector
Vanishing files and un-mountable partitions can occur as  a result of using Safe Removal. Those should get fixed by using slave mode, running chkdsk and removing the player using the USB Disk Ejector tool.

Plug the flash drive into the Mede8er. Unplug the power to the X3D. Plug the power jack back in and hold the ON/OFF button on the Mede8er (not the remote) down for 15sec and then release. After the firmware has been checked (+-5-10sec) it will start to update. You will see the update progress on your TV.  Do not remove power during the Firmware Update procedure .

Subtitle Download

This firmware has new code for downloading subtitles. Opensubs gave us a 30 day "window" to  stop using Wget,  after which ISP's will start to  get blocked again.  Those who use Subtitle Download "must" change to  this  firmware or risk  that happening.

Known Issues

1)Unfortunately  expanded ISO played via the Play Disk code still expect subtitles to use the parent folder name, and don't recognise the opensubs filename.

2)The scrapers are very intolerant of a slow DNS system and this is compounded by a firmware upgrade as the network contains stale DNS data the scrapers ignore.  The usual advice on testing other DNS server settings should be followed;-
Under Network Setup, find either Manual DNS in the wired setup,  or Full Manual Setup in Wireless.  (If you set up wired first then Auto DHCP Wireless should pick  up  the Wired Manual DNS setting)

a) Change the DNS server to the router IP if it has a DNS proxy.
b) Change the DNS server to a Public DNS server which may be faster than your ISP's, such as 8,8,8,8.

This might help in finding a better server:-

If the local proxy found (top left window) ends  up as slow as the internet servers according to namebench, then it means it isn't a proxy, it's just a link.

3) The process for  dismounting drives be it manually or on power down has changed.  It has been tested by Devs with simple USB drives and they maintain the change is beneficial.  We are now aware of at least 2 makes of drive which  now work differently than  they  did before 3.0.2.:-

Icy Box IB-351StU3S-B
Maxell 2TB Tank

These drives  have a led which is lit up when the drives is mounted, and it turns off when they  are unmounted...but that  could be just co-incidence as we have no detailed descriptions of the led function on those drives. With 3.0.2 that led no longer goes off.

We need to understand we can't say for sure that  those 2 drives  are indeed unmounting.
