I upgraded my M8 to the latest firmware immediately after purchase, so I cant comment on earlier versions, but what I am noticing is that when I select a FLAC file, the first second or 2 is absent from my ears. It is VERY annoying. Is anyone else having the same issue?

Also, is it a known issue that playing FLAC files with FLAC tags causes the whole device to hang itself (need to pull the plug from the wall when this happens)?

My setup: Mede8er connected to HK AVR355 (HDMI pass-through) via AudioQuest HDMI cable. Rotel RB1080 fed from HK pre-amp via AudioQuest DiamondBack interconnects, Bowers and Wilkins 683 and PV1 front stage

First the default question regarding 2.0.2 you installed and your mede8er config:
- does it has an internal disk installed?
- if yes, is this disk formatted from mede8er menu (in this version or previous version) and have you checked it has the 2 special "unknown" partitions (see beginners guide).

Yes, it has a 1TB SeaGate internal HDD and was formatted by Mede8er immediately after initial startup on the previous firmware

I have the same issue that mede8er skips the first second. Not only on flac, but also on all mp3.
I tried different settings in the audio-menu, but nothing helped.
It doesn't make a difference if i select a song or let all songs play in a row.

Internal 1,5TB Samsung hdd (originally from mede8er)
disk formatted from mede8er menu
firmware 2.0.2
Panasonic TH42PX80E -> HDMI
Yamaha RX797 Hifi-Receiver -> analog cable
Linksys WRT54GL Router -> Lan-cable

girtab,

Very strange....

Have you verified with the procedure described in the tips section that the special partition are really there?
See the FAQ section of my beginners guide howto check that.

Do you have the same symptom when your audio AMP is off and you only hear sound over the speakers of your TV?

The partitions are really there. This is what telnet says:

Device Boot      Start           End        Blocks            Id   System
/dev/sda1                    2      182341  1464646050     7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2          182342      182361          160650   82  Linux swap
/dev/sda3          182362      182381          160650   83  Linux

The issue is the same when the amp is off or not connected.

Hi girtab,

This looks normal.

Did this problem appeared also before updating to version 2.0.2?

Maybe you can try to re-install 2.0.2 and be sure to follow the upgrade procedure exactly.
After install is finished be sure to do a cold reset by unplug power and plug in again after some 20 secs.

I didn't try it before 2.0.2.
But i just found out that this issue is only over hdmi (my amp is also connected to the tv so i didn't noticed that). When i switch my amp to the mede8er input (analog-cable), i can hear the first second (both, mp3 and flac), but only with the amp, not with tv.

I will try to re-install 2.0.2.

I reinstalled the firmware, did the cold-reset too, but the problem still exists.

I think it has something to do with your setup.

What happens if you break down this setup to:
- mede8er connected by hdmi directly to your TV by HDMI
- amp connected by hdmi to second hdmi port of your tv
- all other hdmi connected sources removed

Thinking you have some disturbunce on your hdmi chain.
Does your equipment have some kind of CEC option over HDMI? Try to switch that off if so. (check all your devices that are attached by HDMI.)

I'm bumping this to the top because I'd like to know whether you found a solution? I'm experiencing the same issue on my recently purchased MED500X. It happens for both .flac and .mp3 files. It's all connected via HDMI to my receiver that sends it out to the speakers. I've not experienced this issue on my old TXIV6500 (just that it had a bootful of other issues.)

There is no global solution to the problem as it appears to be a weakness in the design. It plays all audio as if it's a soundtrack to a movie, and must dump audio until the  audio codec is ready, otherwise it would get out of sync with the  video. The perfect solution would be to have an Audio Only mode in the chip which would buffer music untill the codec chip is ready. Clearly you can't change the chip design with firmware.

There is a possiblilty of working within the limitations of the chip by turning a directory of identically encoded music into a stream so the the codec only switch's mode once.

That is unfortunate. However, I feel any kind of workaround that makes its way within the limitations of the chip would be most welcome. Like most other people, I love music. And it gets frustrating when it skips the first second. :-) I know in my case, I keep all FLAC in its own directory, and all MP3 in its own directory, so the software turning a directory or a playlist into a stream would work for me. Who do you get in touch with to promote that?

At the moment it's just a suggestion I keep describing in answers to see what the response is. Hopefully Sanji might take notice. The problem with any suggestion is that it might not satisfy enough unhappy users to justify the effort. I think I might post it with a Poll attached.

I've started the Poll here:-

Hello,

I can't find any solution to this huge problem... I've bought the 400XMINI mainly to play mp3 from my computer and sometimes watch a movie. I expect this mediaplayer to work decently, without skipping the first few secs of each song.

I REALLY hope there will be a solution, and if there already is: excuse me for it, but I wasn't able to find it yet.

Greetings!
