There's a lot of talk about the NET API. But after a little hunt I must conclude that what is missing is the actual API. How can I  get a hold of it?
it's provided with latest X3D firmware.
It's available as a TCP protocol described in  the net API documentation.

It's not yet in the Public Area. Some have been "invited" to create clients by Mede8er1..and he will have been in direct communtication.  Others agreed to  test the Net Api, and hence had access that  way.

We shall have to  see how Mede8er1 wants to continue the process.

This is the current situation:-

If there might be an Android Version in the near future I have the following questions:

- will there be a function to play music from network or directly conneted HDDs with the TV off via AV Receiver connected to the MED?
- other features are: remote control, streaming video and music to/from tablets/phones, right?

Sorry, I did not get the real advantages of those apps with regard to the Mede8ter.

Think of it as a "clone" of the player GUI running elsewhere.   It is not a DLNA DMC.  If you happy using the players GUI then inded you won't get the point of it.  If you have a projector then trying to use the GUI on a big screen is a real pain.  So browsin you move collection on something smaller is a better experience. If your  the kind of person who wants to  do  everything with their smart phone or tab then they too will see the benefit.

Hi Jer, thanks again for you quick reply. I would see a benefit when I could gather all my music on a network storage or hard disc connected directly with the MED and leave the TV off. Then select via Net-api app  the music I would like to hear via AV-Receiver. Just mirroring the player's GUI (perhaps in another style) should do it, isn't it? .
A DLNA-DMR out of the box would be a nice solution on top.

The NEt api  will allow you control of a music jukebox that you would normally use via the GUI. The current tools are written purely for the Net Api.  In theory someone could combine DLNA as well. But why use DLNA when you can use the GUI functions remotely, functions that cannot be replicated with DLNA?

You are right. Too keep it short - a "big Ipod Classic" would be fine for me meaning:

- having the music collection on a NAS / HHD connected via USB with the MED
- TV "off"
- MED naturally "on"
- selecting the music/playlists via APP GUI
=> this should be possible

So then the control of the video files only makes sence when using a beamer? Watching the film on tablet or Smartphone requires a DLNA-DMR, right?

There are lots of options with android.  You can get Android  mediaplayers which  will use a samba NAS.  Apple require airplay.  If your media is on a Nas the x3d has no part to play if you want to play on a tab.

Hi Jer,

I need a simple constellation. I want to switch my music collection from my PC drive to an external hard drive directly connected with the MED. Having the TV switched off I am looking forward to an easy to use external GUI on my Android Smartphone - no streaming features needed but with Cover (flow), Jukebox etc.. Any news for an Android App?
Besides that I have a LaCie Cinema HD in my network, but this one is only for SD video material.

Can't believe that noone has already created an Andoid clone of this App.
With having no network AV-receiver the GUI on the smartphone would be very nice.
