I'm starting to learn how to program for Android, and want to create an API Remote for Android. So... I want to know what is the lowest popular version of Android you guys are using so that I can try my best to make it compatible with that version.

I wouldn't look lower than V3, even if many still have V2.  If users can't upgrade it could be their hardware isn't up to V3/V4 performance, and that might be needed to  get it working as well as IOS.

I'll keep that in mind, but it's not like I'm creating a high-end game, so performance might not be too much of an issue. Besides, some of the nicer graphics could be disabled to allow older versions to reap the same benefit.

One of the things I know won't work in older versions (pre-HoneyComb) is swiping between screens, which is why my preference would be v3 and up. But I like challenges ;)

There you go  then....one version..two function libraries...and decide which to use based on the host.   You did say you like challenges. ;)

Out of interest what are you using for an IDE. I've toyed with the idea of looking at android but I'm still having fun playing with C#

Eclipse. Most tutorials seem to prefer Eclipse.

Not sure what API you are referring to... The MED500X2 does not support the new API that is supported in the MED1000X3D and MED600X3D models.

To keep it future proof and backwards compatible with some older tablets I would focus on Android API level 13 and higher.

I was also thinking about developing a Android remote app for a while now. I'm currently a intern at a company which also develops and maintains a Android app and I've made my own little app in the past to learn the basics. If you could use any help I would really like to help you into making some (maybe just small) features happen, as a project like this would most definitely boost my skills. :)
Sold my MED600X3D w/ MED20PCIe. No devices A.T.M.

Based on current response I'm thinking of API Level 14. But I'll give it another week or so before I firmly decide.

I will keep this in mind. Thanks for the offer!!

Ive programming a lot of mc software. Witch includes several software packages. Started to read me into
Android some time ago. Dowloaded eclipse and soe. Tutorials. I think as of api 13 (currently te latest is api17)
Is an good option. However when you look at the used controls and graphics it doesnt has to be so
Complexe. But then again when soem features are available why dont use them.
As said before. An real chanlenge and respect. If  i can contribute in anyway let me know. Hope you decide soon hardly can wait. To use it (already). This is whu you want an mediaplayer as the med.

Did you already learn Android then as you said that was your first step?

As the X3 is the current developing platform for mede8er, net api is currently being developed on the X3 firmware. After it is avail on X3 net api might be ported to X2 when possible.

I know it's been about a third of a year since this thread was made, but I didn't want to make another one requesting the same thing.

I would love to have the knowledge to be able to make one myself, but sadly I cannot.

It is nice to see some interest, and it is definitely an android app I would love to have on my phone and/or nexus 7, if it's a paid app or not.

I have used this on and off for a while now:
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,4624.0.html

Though I have longed for an android app that is more, and when I first saw this:
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,10252.0.html

I went straight to purchase it so fast I didn't even realise it was for iphone/pad.

I have both a 400X2 (which this wouldn't work with obviously), but have recently (today) got a 600X3D.

I have tried a lot of media players, and the Mede8er is the one I always tend to keep, I just don't think as much of the others as I do this.

I hope something similar to the iphone/ipad is developed for android, it would be an instant purchase for me if mede8er or yourself manages to design one.
(Not sure if I'm allowed to say that, I'm simply showing my support of the app coming to light and of course my pride and joy of the mede8er)
