Lupissimo, thank you so very much, now IT DID WORK EVEN FOR ME!!!!!  :D  :D  :D Now I can run the process with and without making changes, I can correctly and effectively operate in the "INI" file, find the logs relating to my movie file before and after the change, and, and this is the more important, my movie after the whole operation is happily accepted by my Med800X3D player!!!! This is incredible!  ::) However, to make my knowledge complete:

1. How can I reverse the process, since I think I've learnt somewhere it is reversible in a case "something went wrong"?

2. How deep in the folder structure the application works? I mean if there is for example three-level structure, or sometimes even deeper, would it find the movie hidden so deep in a folder tree and operate on it, or it is necessary to move such a movie closer to the directory folder?

and now a stupid one ...:

3. Since MEDE3ER devices are "future-proof" is it possible to expect in some of the future firmware updates to have this problem solved without any additional operations having to be performed on the avi -type movie files, or the hardware structure of the devices would never allow for this kind of facilitation...?  ::)

3)

No. Changing the codec ID is basically "supporting" divx. Realtek can't afford the retrospective costs of never having a licence, which has to paid before they can put support back.

Who said they are future proofed?. They are not even "now" proofed, as we have 4k and h265 already.

1) Before you change ALL your divx movies you can generate a list of all possible candidates by changing "ersetzen = xvid" into " ersetzen = ;xvid " . In the Lupos_FourCC.txt you can see all the movies found and he potential change candidates. To revert back does not really make sense, because the divx movie can always be played using an xvid codec. ( Note that div3 cannot be changed! Those you will have to reencode)

2) In the Lupos_FourCC.txt you can see whether all your movies are found. If not you just make a new run and change the X:\ into the correct pass: eg: X:\upperFolder\lowerfolder2\ etc. ( I dont remember whether it scans more than 1 level.. :'(

Thank you for explanation.

In the attachment there are two scans of the paper manual to my Mede800X3D; tittle page and page 1 with the statement I quoted  ;). By the way, jer1956, thank you for directing me to this software. With additional kind help of Lupissimo I endeavored to alter the parameters of my avi file successfully.

Lupissimo - thanks for additional explanations.

I tried this program and it worked well. Very easy to use. It is also able to change 4CC's on my NAS over a samba share without needing to mount drives.
The only thing and it's minor, is that is only change one code at a time. You need to run it a second time to get both DIVX and DX50, but the second run is even quicker.

"Allowed file types: gif, jpg, pdf, png, zip, xml, rar
Restrictions: 5 per post, maximum total size 200KB, maximum individual size 150KB"
For some reaon they must have changed the max size to be appended here. So I cannot attach the 600k rar.
I have uploaded it here:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ccz2j4nbyun9gx/Lupos_FourCC.rar?dl=0
Maybe a moderator can put it somewhere safe, since the dropbox will be cleared after a while.
