Title: Music Jukebox. Get Ready! (FAQ with Videos)
Post by: jer1956 on January 17, 2012, 09:39:59 PM
The forth coming Music Jukebox works on Tags. The Tags are used to search the music, the resulting tracklists being used as a playlist. The Music Player in Jukebox will also display tags derived from ALL jukeboxed media...not just MP3.

Those not using mp3 have to use an external scanner. That scanner is part of this software:-
http://www.xdlab.ru/en/index.htm

It supports most tagging systems. You are not expected to change to MP3 just to use the Jukebox. All supported audio codecs using Tags can be used. If you have a mix of MP3 and other formats...Tagscanner is used to scan everything. If you only have mp3..you don't need tagscanner's output as the X2's internal scan will be enough...but you may want to use it to check tags.

The actual scanning script will not be released yet, but I suggest those intending to use the Music Jukebox get used to it now...and re-tagging.

The Key tags are:-
Album Title
Album Artist
Track Genre
Track Year
Track Title
Track Artist
Track Number (used when renaming files)

There are issues once you change to a tag based database. We will be using a Tagging Terminology. So Track mean Track number..Title means Track Name.  Each album title entry can only be linked to a single path. So multi-CD rips using the same album name...and relying on the disk tag to identify them from the others, dosn't work. You can add the disk number to the album title...and store in separate folders. Or create a single album in one folder by changing the track numbers.

Also to make File names used by the GUI consistent with Track names used by Jukebox Search, you should do a global "Rename from Track Title Tag" using the Music Renamer tool in the Tagscanner when all the tagging is complete. Otherwise you search one thing and see something else. Also Jukebox has to work with some of the limitations of the ordinary Music Player.  So using Track Number - Title as the file name is a good option...then  the Track Names can be seen in the space allowed for file names in Player, and Music Player can use alpha  sort to list them..as it can't use the Track Number tag.

If you have used mutiple tagging tools over time then you may find you have mutiple names for the same Genre, or Artist.  This happens a lot when you tag using net based databases.  So to search and display all albums of a particluer Genre, or Artist,  you need to use the same variant of the name. For Genre, using a standard drop list from a single tagger application is the best way to  do  this. This is something you  do when you have finished tagging using online databases.  You can use a similer approach to solving the Artist Name issue..select all their Albums..and save one single version of their name into the selected files.

For eye candy you need to import Cover images. These can be embedded if supported by the audio package you use. Otherwise either folder.jpg or cover.jpg can  be placed in the album folder.

We would recommend that those with an Album based Music Archive, especially on a NAS , shift over to using folder.jpg, This will quicken up the display of Album Icons, and make the GUI of Music Player smoother. Clearly those who download singles, or a few tracks per album, don't store music in album folders. Those users will continue to use embeded art if they want images shown  with icons and Music Player.

FAQ

1) Is there a known limitation of how many tracks (files) you can index before there is a performance impact on the X2?

Answer

It has been tested by some up to 40K titles(tracks). Searches are going to get slower the more titles you have...and if your Music is stored on a NAS. Both of those testing with a large collection use a NAS...and aren't saying it's unusable.

Heres is a video searching a 20k Track NAS database via Samba:-
http://www.mede8er.org/artwork/temp/Mede8er_Music_Jukebox_Speed_Over_Samba_20k_Titles.mp4

2) Currently all my album art is embedded in ID3v2 tags at a resolution of 500x500.  What is the best resolution for Jukebox and what gives better performance, embedded or a folder.jpg.  Should I rather put a folder.jpg into each album folder?  Maybe MP3TagScanner extracts the album art and resizes it to the best resolution for X2.

Answer

Preview uses 230 x 230. So images above that have to be resized by the X2.  There is no noticable hit with that up to  say 350 x 350. So you only need to rescale if above 350 x 350.  We recommend 72 DPI...but it's not critical.  We already recommend a rescaling tool as this is an issue for the current music player.
http://hcware.110mb.com/mp3art/

We are introducing a new screensaver with Music Jukebox. That will use folder.jpg instead of the Mede8er logo..but only if they are no bigger than 250x250. See New Promo Video in main post.

If you now to need to batch rescale..you should try this;-
http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm

3) If you have 1000+ tracks, should you rather use the PC software to create database instead of the onboard X2 scanner.  Just worried you could be sitting for hours waiting for the X2 to finish scanning.

Answer

Getting the X2 to handle non MP3 Tags was essential to making Jukebox worthwhile. Finding a ready solution wasn't easy...and has consequnces.  The output from tagscanner is not in the database form used by the deeper code of the X2. So it has to be converted by the X2 itself. This is done only once...in place  of scanning MP3 files.  That internal conversion is about 1K-2K titles a min, depending upon where the database is located. Tagscanning itself is best done using USB slave mode.  So I find myslef having tagging sessions...move the X2 to the PC...tag more tracks..run the tagscanner. Then move the X2 back to the home Theater...and rebuild the database.

4) Is there a best practice folder/filename structure to follow?

Answer

Like the Movie Jukebox...the folder structure scanned is converted into a database and then displayed flat. Everthing is virtual from then on anyway...folders have no meaning. I have kept my usual folder structure  Music/artist/album. Those who rip tracks may have somthing completely  different...like tracks ripped in  2011.

What is crucial is mating file names to title tags. The GUI uses filenames...the database tags. So when you search Titles (tracks)...your searching tags...but you see filenames. So once you have tagged...before Tagscanning...you should do  a global "Rename from Track Title Tag". That should include Track number, or Artist as well if you want. Track Number is needed in the filename as Jukebox still uses the Music Player, and that can't sort by Tags.

5) Will it really display tags other than MP3 in the player?

Answer

Flac

http://www.mede8er.org/artwork/temp/Mede8er_music_jukebox_flac_tags.mp4

We will make  more examples.

6) Will I be able to have multiple music jukeboxes like you can in the movie jukebox by setting up a Favorites to various folders folders?

Answer

Yes..but Music Jukebox has a playlist feature allowing you to pull tracks from all your albums or downloads.  These have to be in a single jukebox.  If all you want are particuler folders grouped together...than jukebox may not be for you. The same goes for Movie Jukebox.

7) Will Music Jukebox play my current playlists?

Answer

Not directly.  They will have to be re-located to a specfic folder in Jukebox.  We have a  tip  for that.
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,7881.msg49817.html#msg49817
You can do this now..and prove they work using the ordinary Music Player.

Tracks in the playlist are identified in the database via their path, and then you get their Tag Data displayed when they are played.

8 ) Will Music Jukebox use Track Artists when playing compilations?

Answer.

Artist in the various search tools means Track Artist.    Album Artist is used when displaying Album Names.   After much re-tagging we recommend the following:-

i) Tag each track with that tracks Artist Name. Use   "X, the" instead of "The X" for the Track Artist..as this helps locate their tracks.

You should do this with Single Artist albums as well...but when setting the Album Artist Tag..use still " The X"...it looks better on the GUI.

ii) Tag Genre for each track as a search tag for finding compilation albums. So don't use Pop, or Rock..but Top100, Best Of, Various instead.

iii) Tag the Album Artist as Various, or Various Artists.

9)  Will it support Itunes?

Answer

It does support m4a, without DRM, provided they are stored like other music the Jukebox supports.  Unfortunately the internal scanner is still only MP3.  So Tagscanner has to be used to convert the tags into XML.  This can be done on the latest MAC's using this:-

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/40711/winonx

You must attach the X2 to the MAC using USB slave mode.

(Thanks to Macuser for finding and proving this)

Firstly, just for clarification on removing the album art and using folder.jpg.  Will this speed up the GUI of the jukebox, or the GUI that shows the tracks for a particular album (ie: the album art for each track)?

Secondly, if my audio files have embedded art and a folder.jpg also exists in the folder, what will the X2 check for first?

Lastly, I would prefer not to remove my album art if possible.  If I were to set the album art type to something other than "front cover" and set it to "Back cover" or "Other" or "Leaflet" or "Media", would the X2 ignore this album art?  I suppose my question should actually be, what cover types does the X2 read from?

OK...we are not talking huge differences. So leave them for now...and I will check. My advice will be to add folder.jpg...but not remove embedded for now... These are very good questions!   Only cover.jpg and folder.jpg work and are used for both icon and music player display. Cover.jpg is not offically supported. That means support could vanish.

Now we are already thinking about improvements. You cannot multi-task with Jukebox. You can't play muisc..and  go off and look at photo's. So we will start to look at screensaver as away to have more images. But we are not adding new functions now...we are just becoming aware of the limitations and possible future solutions.

My personal favourite idea would be to have a folder of album specific art..and get a flikr type screenaver using that.

I did a quick test regarding the "cover type" setting and folder.jpg.

1) When I browsed in the Media Library, the folder representing the album showed the folder.jpg.
2) When i went into the folder to view the tracks, the embedded art was displayed.
3) When clicking on a file and launching the player, the embedded art was displayed.

It also seems that X2 will recognize any embedded album art regardless of what the type is set to.

I'll retest this scenario once the Jukebox gets released.

I don't know how the Flickr one looks, but I know using my XBox as a Media Center Extender bascially created a background of tiled (lets say 12 high by 80 wide) albums arts which slowly scrolled.  That was quite nice.

The curent priority is embedded art first.  We want to chage that to folder.jpg becuase we have tested and it is faster for Jukebox..but we  had to remove the embedded art to  do the test. Just changing the priority might be enough to get the speed benefits.

Turn on the flickr scareensaver option in the X2 to see what I was reffering too.

This would have the disadvantage that one can not have different album art for different tracks. Example: I have a folder that contains 100 single tracks, each with its own cover art.

We have no intention of removing supprt for embedded art. We just feel using a single cover.jpg is faster for those who can use it...and we  need to see if it is just as fast if  the embedded art is still present.  We have a Dev version which can be used to  test this.

 Hi JER1956,

how're you.

In your first post you stated:

Quote
"All supported audio codecs using Tags can be used.
If you have a mix of MP3 and other formats...Tagscanner is used to scan everything."

On FLAC files, you have an example:
http://www.mede8er.org/artwork/temp/Mede8er_music_jukebox_flac_tags.mp4

So tagging FLACS should work.

Actually, reading this post decide me to buy a 1000X3D ....  ;D

... but ...

First: when adding tagged MP3 files to the Med (generated by Tagscanner), the music jukebox works fine.

Second: when adding tagged FLAC files to the Med, the music jukebox doesn't work at all ...
It can only play the files and show the coverart (folder.jpg) but I lose all the jukebox functionality (playlist, searching).

I undestand the TAG EDITOr, MUSIC RENMER, LIST MAKER but whatever I try within Tagscanner, it keeps adding VORBIS tags to mij FLAC files. Even when I save to ID3, APE or AUTO.

And the 1000X3D can only read ID3 tags. :-[
So, when scanning the (just added) FAVOURITES map (I named it MUSIC, which keeps the FLAc files),
the Med1000X3D returns: "No ID3 Tag information found".

I've trying for over a week now .... the forum and Tagscanner user manual isn't helping much either, it's not specific enough.

QUESTION: how can I generate tags for FLAC-files within TAGSCANNER so that the Med1000X3D can read them ?

Thanking you in advance,

Player: 1000X3D
FW: v1.05
HDD: WD Blue 750 GB (WD7500BPVT), http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=800

Please post your tagscanner xml.  You are scanning the folder in which is the XML is found?
Title: Re: Music Jukebox. Get Ready! (FAQ with Videos)
Post by: bretter on February 08, 2013, 01:19:28 PM
Hi Jer,

... thanks for your fast response.  ;D

This is the map-structure that I want to make on the Med:

E:\Music\CSNY
E:\Music\Beatles
E:\Music\Beatles
E:\Music\Eagles
E:\Music\Tracklist.XML

In wich E: is the internal HDD on the Med (according to my PC when connected with the blue cable).
Music is the Root-folder.
CSNY is Artist-folder.
The Album-folder contains the tracks (01-carry on, 02-teach your children, 03-almost cut my hair, etc...)
The tracks are tagged with Tagscanner (manual via TAG EDITOR) and renamed to: %track%-%title%.

So the tracklist.xml is in the music folder, as it should be according to the manual.

Within the Med:
First I add the Music-folder to my Favourites, this works fine.
Then I go to the Favourites, and scan the (just made) Music-folder; followed by the message "No ID3 Tag information found" .  :-[

So the Med cannot build a database (music.db) and I can only play the individual songs.

EXAMPLE: this is the tracklist.xml of the above CSNY album:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

1) start with a standard script as found here:-

http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_music_jukebox_user_guide_x2_x3.html

2)you structure would work on the internal drive,,but on remote stores you must use share/music/music folders.

So  you need an extra parent folder..and that is what is shared.  You then link to  the Music child folder.

Hi,

I already used this earlier script (FW  2.0.4). No succes. Als tried other scripts from the export-list.

Every map is already shared. On my laptop, C:\ is shared and C:\Music\ map is shared and on the Mede8er, E:\ (HDD) also completely shared and E:\ Music\ also.

You mean create an extra folder like E:\parenfolder\music\  ?
The manual makes no mention about that.

I have no problem copying the music-folder (with subfolders, tracklist and music-files) from C:\ (laptop) to E:\ (mede8er) within windows explorer (XP). I can see all the folders, songs and tracklist on E:\

I think the problem lies somewhere within Tagscanner.
Whatever I try, Tagscanner keeps adding VORBIS tags to the Flac-files … and the 1000X3D cannot cope with this, only with ID3 tags.

I hope, the person who made this:

http://www.mede8er.org/artwork/temp/Mede8er_music_jukebox_flac_tags.mp4

… can shine some light on this issue. :o

The concept is different:
- Mede8er can only scan mp3 tags when you do a scan of favorite link.
- when you have other media like flacs, you need to use the special tagscan script, scan with tagscan, export the Tracklist.XML file with that special script.
Tagscan will then put the right tags for the Flac files in the Tracklist.XML
Then scan the folder where the Tracklist.XML is in with your Mede8er.
The Mede8er will buld the .db file from the tracklist.xml, not from scanning the files itself.

Hi, Maasbommel,

I already used the mede8er tagscript (tried both XX_Mede8er ... V1.02 and XX_Mede8er ... Group_by_Artist) with no succes.
Doesn't matter if I scan the Tracklist directly in the Music-folder, or after I made the Music-folder a favourite.

This is what I did, step by step:

1. Connect laptop to the Mede8er (with blue USB cable) and open Windows Explorer (Win XP).
2. Turn on Mede8er.
3. Make connection with E:\
Where E:\ is the internal HDD on the Med (according to my laptop when connected with the blue USB cable).

4. Make a folder on the Mede8er, called MUSIC.
Result: Mede8er looks like this: E:\Music\

5. Copy the album-folder with the (untagged) FLAC files (songs) from laptop to Mede8er.
Result:. Mede8er looks like this: E:\Music\CSNY_dejaVu

... where...
Music is the Root-folder,
CSNY_dejavu is the album-folder.
The album-folder contains the songs (01-title1.flac, 02-title2.flac, 03-title3.flac, etc...) and the folder.jpg (cover photo).

6. Open Tagscanner (5.1) and go to TAG EDITOR TAB.
Open the path (below on the screen) E:\Music\
Result: In the File Panel List I can see all the FLAC files (songs) I just copied to the Med.

7. Go to TAG EDITOR TAB and fill in the fields for each song in the main window (right side of the screen).
In my case: track, title, artist, album, album-artist, year and genre.
Additionally, make a link to the folder.jpg for showing a picture of the albumcover.

8. On TAG EDITOR TAB, save every song (highlight and SAVE). The songs are now tagged. I know this because each song is  about 25kb larger now and when I import these songs in another program, I can see they're tagged.

9. Go to MUSIC RENAMER TAB and rename the songs with this string: %track%-%title% (according to p28 manual).
Highlight all the songs and RENAME.
Result: On the Med, the songs are now renamed with the right names.

10. For Tag checking: Go to the TAG PROCESSOR TAB, highlight the songs and click PREVIEW. On the RESULTS tab you can see all the fields, the songs are tagged with. I'll see the same fields as described in step 7:  track, title, artist, album, album-artist, year and genre.

11. Go to LISTMAKER TAB: highlight all the songs, choose the script (XX_Mede8er-Export_XML_Groip_by_Artist) and export.
Result: the Tracklist.xml is now in the music folder, as it should be according to the manual. You can see the tracklist, 4 posts earlier.

The Mede8er looks like this now:
E:\Music\CSNY_dejaVu
E:\Music\Tracklist

End Result:
The Tracklist.xml is in the Music folder, the album-folder (CSNY_dejavu) contains the renamed and tagged tracks (01-cary on, 02-teach your children, 03-almost cut my hair, etc...) and the folder.jpg (cover photo).

9. Unplug the blue USB cable and the Mede8er is starting up.

10. On the Mede8er: Scanning the Music folder results in the message "No ID3 Tag information found". I'll get the same message after I added the Music-folder as a favourite and scan this favourite.

Remaining problem:
The Med cannot build a database (music.db) and I can only play the individual songs.  :-\

Did I miss something ? ... are the above 2 scripts OK for FLAC tags ?

Not sure if this may be the issue -- you have it listed in your post as 'Tracklist.xml' and it should be 'TrackList.xml'
so maybe its case sensitive.

The manual also speaks of TrackList.xml but the script saves it as Tracklist.xml. Neither work, so I don't think it's case sensitive.

But we don't know if you have a Music Jukebox bug we are unaware of, or a general scanning issue that others are also  reporting.

There is a test movie jukebox demo  you can download. You can try deleting the .db and recreating it with a scan.

OK Jer,

I tested the Movie Jukebox-DEMO (20-july-2012) and Music jukebox-DEMO (Music_demo_final_28_feb2012).

Movie jukebox-DEMO:
Works, when I copy alle the files (including the Mede8er.db) to the Mede8er.

Music jukebox-DEMO (mp3 files, no flac !):
Works, when I copy alle the files (including the Music.db) to the Mede8er.

but .... when I delete the .db files from both jukeboxes (one after another, not at the same time) strange things are happening.

First I see that the .db files are recreated by both jukeboxes.

But then ...

1. I added both demos to my Favourites, this works. After that, when I go to Favourites I see the 2 folders.
I can easy enter the Music-DEMO folder, but when I go to the Movie-DEMO folder, the Med replies: "No match info!",  followed by showing 3 sub-folders: 1)HD_2011 2)HD_2012 3)01.mkv.
Entering HD_2011 and HD_2012 is possible and you see the moviepictures.
Clicking on a picture gives no return ... only a blue screen. Before I deleted the .db files there was extended info on this screen.

2. After a restart, all Favourites are deleted. Making new Favourites for both Music jukebox-DEMO and Movie jukebox-DEMO gives the same response for the Movie jukebox-DEMO as described above.

3. After a 2nd restart, all Favourites are deleted again. Making new Favourites for both Music jukebox-DEMO and Movie jukebox-DEMO now gives the same response for BOTH demo's: "No match info !"
After the "No match info !", there are no SEARCH entry's any more (Menu button on remote) for BOTH demo's.
You can't search on genre, year, name ... or whatever.

4. You can't add a Folder on your HDD (Movie Jukebox-DEMO and/or Music jukebox-DEMO) to your Favourites after you just deleted this favourite. You have to completely restart the Med again.

5. After every restart, Favourites are gone.

So, still some issues here ... looks like the Med has some problems making or recreating .db files.
Perhaps that has something to do with my problems to make a FLAC music.db

On FLAC files, Mede8er has an example:
http://www.mede8er.org/artwork/temp/Mede8er_music_jukebox_flac_tags.mp4

Q: can I get c.q. is there a download (zip) of this jukebox for testing ?

If you need more info, let me know.

No, we don't need anything else at the moment.  Everything you describe looks like you can't create new files, such  as databses and favourites..without locking up  the journal  file.  This is why your music scan  fails...

What player are you using and which  firmware?  This thread is in x2, but an X3 users could easily be trying out Music Juebox and read this thread.

Seems I may have found a clue to the problem you reported. I used your Tracklist.xml with normal Flac files and it scanned fine. I then used 192khz flack files and I got the same error as you did. So this means our code is not looking for these HD flac files. Easy workaround is to just copy any music file like a mp3 into the 'JukeBox' or 'Music' folder and then it should work.

Hi Mede8er 1,

you said,

Quote
I used your Tracklist.xml with normal Flac files...

What do you consider normal ?

My Flac files are 44.1 khz (not 192khz). I converted them directly from CD, which has a standard of 16bit/44.1Khz.
In the TAG EDITOR TAB (Tagscanner) I cleary see that the (imported) Flacs are 44100 Hz (below to the right of the screen).
Seems pretty normal to me ...

Also, Mede8er states the 1000X3D is compatible with 192KHZ Flac files:

From your homepage:

" Audio Codec Supported: MP3/MP2/OGG Vorbis/PCM/LPCM/AAC/RA/Dolby True HD - DTS MA Passthrough on HDMI/AC3 - DTS 5.1/Flac up to 24bit 192Khz/WAV/WMA Standard (DRM & Advanced Profile not Supported)"

So there should't be any problem if I did use 192khz files, (which I don't, I use normal 44.1khz files!).
Strange ...

Quote
Easy workaround is to just copy any music file like a mp3 into the 'JukeBox' or 'Music' folder and then it should work.

Yes, I know that MP3 works, the music jukebox is based on MP3-tags. But I don't want lossy files, only losless.
The reason I bought the Med is that It supports high quality Flac.

On FLAC files, Mede8er has an example:
http://www.mede8er.org/artwork/temp/Mede8er_music_jukebox_flac_tags.mp4

I would like to repeat my question:
Q: can I get c.q. is there a download (zip) of this flac-jukebox for testing ?

Actually, I bought the Med mainly bases on this example.

Some misunderstanding.

We support the Flac files up to 192khz no problem. The issue is that we have a scan function that decides if the content is Movie or Music when doing the scan. For some reason with your Flac files its not reading them in this mode and that is why I suggested you just copy any single mp3 file to the folder so that our scanner can read it and then scan the TrackList.xml.

So please try this and let me know the outcome.

Mede8er1,

I copied a mp3 to the flac folder (E:\Music\CSNY_dejaVu).

E:\Music\CSNY_dejaVu
Where E:\ is the internal HDD on the Med (according to my laptop when connected with the blue USB cable).
CSNY_dejaVu is the Flac folder.

1. Direct scanning of E:\Music\ folder:
Result: Scan Completed.
After Scanning: Entering the Flac folder I can see all the Flac-files (10) and the mp3 file (1).
I can play each individual song, but only the mp3 song displays added info (album, artist, genre and year-tags).
The added tags of the Flac files are not visible.
Jukebox doesn't work (cannot search within the files on album, genre, ...etc... or use playlist).

2. Then I added the Music folder to my Favourites:

Result: Entering the Music Favourite, I can see only the mp3 file (1). None of the Flac files are visible.  :-[
I can play this mp3 song and see the added info (album, artist, genre and year).

3. Then Scanned the Music Favourite:
Result: Scan Completed. Entering the Music Favourite, I can see only the mp3 file (1). None of the Flac files are visible.  :-[
I can play this mp3 song and see the added info (album, artist, genre and year).
Jukebox does work (can search within the file(s) on album, genre, ...etc... or use playlist. But of course there is only the mp3 file).

And ...
... after a powercycle (OFF/ON) all the Favourites (Music and the Demo's I installed) are gone. :-\

I repeated the above all over again and the second time, after Scanning the Music favourite, the Jukebox didn't work
(cannot search within the files on album, genre, ...etc... or use playlist).  ???

still strange things goin' on ....

I  tested you samples and all ok

1. Made a folder called 'JUKEBOX'
2. Copied your Tracklist.xml to the JUKEBOX folder
3. Inside the JUKEBOX folder I made a folder called 'CSNY'
4. Copied your Flac files to CSNY
5. Went to Favourites and focused on this folder JUKEBOX and pressed Menu button and selected option ' Scan'
6. X3D did the scan
7. I then selected the JUKEBOX thumbnail in Favourites and it opened the Music JukeBox and the Album CSNY - Deja Vu was displayed
8. Selected this Album
9 Showed me two tracks
   01-Carry On.flac
   02--Teach Your Children.flac
10. Played both and they perfect with metadata info.

EDIT: The above was tested via Samba share
I then copied the folder JUKEBOX to the MED1000X3D internal HDD
Did the same procedure and got error 'No ID etc etc
I then navigated to the folder JUKEBOX in the Media Library and did a Scan and then all was ok

So some bug when scanning Tracklist.xml on internal drive for the first time. Once the Tracklist.xml is in the folder and you scan it again from Favourites then its ok.

Will investigate this - Workaround -- First scan must be done from the Media Library

Mede8er1,

I did exactly what you did with the same files (the ones I uploaded):

Result:

1. Made a folder called 'JUKEBOX' (check)
2. Copied your Tracklist.xml to the JUKEBOX folder  (check)
3. Inside the JUKEBOX folder I made a folder called 'CSNY' (check)
4. Copied your Flac files to CSNY (check)
5. Went to Favourites and focused on this folder JUKEBOX and pressed Menu button and selected option ' Scan'

>> You probably first went to the HDD to make the JUKEBOX-folder a favourite ... (check)

6. X3D did the scan (no check, I still get: "No ID3 Tag Information Found"

7. I then selected the JUKEBOX thumbnail in Favourites and it opened the Music JukeBox and the Album CSNY - Deja Vu was displayed (check)
8. Selected this Album (check)
9 Showed me two tracks (check)
   01-Carry On.flac (check)
   02--Teach Your Children.flac (check)
10. Played both and they perfect with metadata info. (no check, both played but with no metadata).

Quote

Not with me, if I scan it from Favourites or directly from Media Library, now way I get a succesful scan.  :-[

Really sorry that its annoying you but if we did not assist that would be even worse. So many variables with each new SDK and new hardware such as different HDD models etc and these things creep in. We need to work through this and then give all the test results to our engineers so that they can reproduce and fix this bug.

Right now can I ask you to do one more test. Pls download and unzip the attached file and copy it into the JukeBox folder and then try to scan.

Which  folder did you  browse when you  tagged scanned? If you  had more than one album it would be obvious you  have to browse the shared parent and end up  with all albums, and hence all tracks,  in the left window of tagscanner. You don't tagscan individual  albums.  tracklist has to be in the parent folder that you link to  and scan.  When you scan that, the code will first check if tracklist is there.  If it's in the album it won't find it..and then it will scan  the collection for mp3's..and find none as yours are flacs.

I have just created a jukebox using your flacs on my hard drive. It scanned first time using the tracklist I created myself. It plays as well, complete with tags.

I have posted it as jukebox.rar on test FTP. Please try it..

However I have been playing  with  Tag processor source string and now  I can tag each track, album artist album artist year, and so on ,still got try with Mede8er. Previously my tag was all on one line.

The tag info for all non mp3 music files come from the Mede8er db. So Flac as an example will only show tag info in Music JukeBox mode.

How would you know?  If tracklist is in the wrong place it would do an internal MP3 scan and create a working database. You might think it's converting mp3 tracklists and not flac tracklists, when it's not converting either.

Anyway,

I unzipped and copied your music.db into the JUKEBOX folder.

1. Scan directly from Media Library: no scan (No ID3 tag information found).

jer1956,

This is what I did:

1. download your jukebox.rar and placed it on the Med.
2. go to Media Library and make Jukebox a Favourite
3. go to Favourite and Scan the Jukebox
4. Scan completed
5. I can play the tracks and the Tags are showing

so far so good, we're getting somewhere but...  ;)

6. Jukebox functions are missing. Can't search within the files on album, genre, ...etc... or create playlist.
Only normal, repeat, continue and shuffle are showing.
7. After a restart: the Favourites (Jukbox-folder) are gone
8. Try to make the Jukeboy-folder again a Favourite but Med Failed to do this (no blue stripe).
9. Restart again.
10. go to Media Library and make Jukebox a Favourite
11. go to Favourite and Scan the Jukebox
12. Scan completed
13. I can play the tracks and the Tags are showing
14. Jukebox functions are still missing. (only normal, repeat, continue and shuffle are showing)

15. Restart again
16. Favourites (Jukbox-folder) are gone
17. etc ... repeat… repeat

Then I connected my laptop to the Med and deleted the Music.db file (included in the jukebox.rar) from the Jukebox folder and scanned again:

Result:
The Music.db was not recreated, in any case I could’t see it from my Laptop.
Then I did step 2 to 5 (above) and it did Scan successfully (step 4).
Strange … I would expect that, because I deleted the Music.db file, the Med wouldn’t Scan at all …
Also step 6 to 17 (above) are in order after the deletion of Music.db.

Then I formatted the HDD and copied from your  jukebox.rar ONLY the next files to the Med:
Jukebox-folder (including Tracklist and including Album-folder with the 2 Flac-files)

It did scan successfully … which I don’t understand because when I tried to reproduce all of this with my own files, I couldn’t get a succefull scan whatever I did:
- I used the same folder-structure on the Med, only named it differently. You use Jukebox\Album\ , I use Music\Csny\.
- I used exactly the same 2 flacs and put them in the Csny-folder (same as your Album-folder).
- Our tracklists are similar (exept the names of the folders).
- I put the tracklist in the same (root) folder Music, where you put it in Jukebox.

You must have both Jukebox View and Auto view on ..see last page of Setup.

Even with my jukebox you downloaded..it won't start in jukebox mode from Favourites without Jukebox view on.  You are only seeing the basic Media Library music options on the Menu.

With Auto View on you should have view.xml files all over the place. Are you saying only my unzipped folders have them?

If that is the only one it's another example of your NTFS being locked down affecting the creation of files.

Hi, everybody,

I still have some problems with Flac files on my Mede8er. I know, I’m not the only one and Mede8er is working on it.

For doing my part, I go back to the beginning by the correct tagging of Flac files.
Mede8er advises  to use Tagscanner, and that’s just what I did.

This is what I do when tagging Flac-files (songs). It took me some time to figure it out but I think this is the way to go for the Mede8er.

Please feel free to comment !!
Let’s learn from eachothers input. Perhaps I missed something.

step-by-step

On Laptop or PC:

1.   Make directory C:\Music\Artist1
2.   Make directory C:\Music\Artist2
3.   Make directory C:\Music\Artist3
4.   ….etc…
In the Artist folders you put the Flac-files (songs). These are untagged yet.
Songs are named as: 01-title1, 02-title2 etc…, depending on your Flac conversion software.

5.   Open tagscanner 5.1
6.   Settings, top right corner: KEEP \ (arrow up) APE \ (arrow down) AUTO
7.   Go to TAG EDITOR tab
8.   Set Path (below): C:\Music\
9.   On the File Panel List (left) you see all the Flac-files which are located in the Artist folders.
10.   In the control panel (right) you can fill in the Tags. For Flac-files, I use: track, title, artist, album, album-artist, year, genre and picture (below).
11.   Highlight all the songs you want to process and click SAVE. Songs are now Tagged. You can check this on the TAG PROCESSOR tab and click PREVIEW
12.   Go to MUSIC RENAMER tab. I use the FORMAT: %track-%title. On the File Panel List (left) you see all the Flac-files which are now renamed as “01-titel from Tag Editor page”, “02-titel from Tag Editor page”, etc ...
13.   Highlight all the songs you want to rename and click RENAME. Songs are now renamed.
14.   Go to LIST MAKER TAB. Settings, down right corner: checks on HTML-compatible and use relative pads. Encoding: UTF-8.
15.   On the File Panel List (left) you see all the songs which are renamed and tagged.
16.   Highlight all the songs you want to export to the tracklist. Choose a special mede8er script on the right hand side and EXPORT the script.
Mede8er has 2 special scripts, you can find them here: http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_music_jukebox_user_guide_x2_x3.html
17.   Tagscanner export the script to the root-folder on your laptop or PC : C:\Music\Tracklist.xml
18.   Exit tagscanner
19.   Now you can copy C:\Music\ to the Mede8er. On the Mede8er you now have a folder called Music which contains the Tracklist and the subfolder(s) with the (tagged) Flac-files (songs). You can enter that folder via Media Library \ HDD.

So far for the Tagging of Flacs.

… and then the scanning begins ….

Thanks once again Bretter for putting the time (noted time posted)in and explaining it in a very simple manner. The strangle thing is I have one twin album Flac album that shows the correct tag when I play it on the Mede8er all the rest are tagged on one line.

Reading more on this matter I noted that if Media monkey has tag the tracks prior to Tag scanner only the missing info is added.
Apparently the tag info is stored at the beginning of each track, when Tag scanner is run the time taken to tag the album should be noticeable longer thus indicating there is no pre existing tag. The reason I mention this because I couldn't get the Mede8er to recognise VORBIS so I use Media monkey, then I ran it on Tag scanner.

Is your out put still showing VORBIS?

This is my third Med8er player, my first being some years ago.Not sure what the future may bring.

I have most of my music as FLAC files on a NAS. Because I usually listen to them by copying them to a portable Cowon D2 player, the files can only contain FLAC tags, not ID3v2. (Also, no use of "album artist" tags.)

Does this mean I will never be able to use the Music Jukebox on my MED1000X3D using the same files?

I would clone an  album to  a test folder and run tagscanner on it.   See if it  can  generate the XML  with what you have, without changing the tags to id3.

At worst,  you "backup" your music to  a safe folder, let tagscanner do it's thing, including overwriting the tags. Create the XML,and put the origonal music back.

No matter which way the Mede8er cannot  SCAN.

Looking at tracks in the address bar on the computer I can see that the tracks have been tagged, track ,title, comments and so on, I have put a CD in and looked at the address bar it shows only track number, size and type.

Re-ripped to Flac still no scan.

Where do we go next!!!!!!

Have you tried the pre-built jukebox I made here?:-

The issue does appear to be a file creation  problem that  some users are having.

Only internal mp3 art is supported. You would have to  extract it  from one of the tracks as a separate file.

If the pre-built  jukebox works..try deleting the .db and scanning it.

I have tried it on a couple of folders and so far it all works fine, so I am going to use Tagscanner on my entire collection this weekend. I did not have to convert the existing Flac tags, just create the XML file with Tagscanner, then on my MED1000X3D Add as Favourite and Scan the folder.

Maybe replacing id3 tags with Flac tags could be a solution to others who have problems with flac files?

Hi
jer1956
Thanks for offer I have up loaded a folder  Flac test_Frankrose

I have uploaded Flac test_Frankrose.rar

Check the script ID used in  the .xml I created.  The file you sent me was .Xml.

Did you  download the script from here?:-

http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_music_jukebox_user_guide_x2_x3.html

I just down loaded the script from that...and reading it shows it's creating a .xml as required.

If there is a link you used to  a wrong script on the forum..please tell us.

If you have been overriding the name in the script due to a typo error in a guide..also  tell us.

Hi,
I also downloaded the (... XML_Group_by_Artist.tse) script you mentioned,
found here http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_music_jukebox_user_guide_x2_x3.html

With me, this script also creates Tracklist.Xml (capital T and capital X).
Seems like the same 'problem' as Frank.
Just in case, download this script today (feb 16), unzipped and placed in tagscanner's script-folder and it still creates .Xml (capital X)

Strange that it creates a . xml with you Jer1956 ...  ???

Actuallly, the other script (...XML_V1.0.2.tse) also creates Tracklist.Xml (capital T and capital X) and also doesn't work with me.

If all of this is case-sensitive, it's probably an easy fix...

We have had a lot of  case sensitive issues cropping up with newer software. I can't see why using the default script you don't get .xml. It's actually in the script itself. Open it up with wordpad and you will  see it.

Quote
$file_name TrackList.xml
$file_notes XML file with full information
$file_encoding utf-8
$file_writebom 0
$file_ishtml 1
$file_relativepaths 1

I will check  the other script...but to be honest we would have had hundreds of reports if the wrong name was created.

The information above is identical in  the Artist Order script.

So  for some reason your ending up with .Xml.

Try looking at the scrip using the blue edit command in tagscanner.  What does it say for the file name on the top line?

In the mean time try renaming to .xml

Have you ever created .Xml file in the past?  Did you create them using Word?  Word can  embed itself in the OS and "correct" files in the background without you realising it's doing it.

See what your saying with regard Xml yours xml I used a script not from the main page but from a link within the Mede8er site some time ago.I didn't alter any of the scripts in any way.
What I did yesterday is remove tag scanner and all scripts, from my PC and downloaded new version then I downloaded he Mede8er scripts from link given yesterday and copied scripts into tag scanner , I removed the Xml that came with tagscaner.
Checked script with edit Notepad all OK. Ran number of albums though tag scanner from my USB hard drive checked tracklist.xml

All OK.

Created dB on both USB and internal hard drive both worked in jukebox mode.

One thing I noticed when I focus on a album press play the tag just shows one line and not full tag, when I use search in jukebox full tag shown less track number.

Are you using Jukebox View - on?  If you  don't, your actually in Medlalibray  mode until  you use Search. They do look similer. It catches a lot of people out.

I'm sorry you've  had to  wait so long for us to  get to  the bottom of your problem.

Just like Frank,
I removed Tagscanner completely and installed it again. Also copied Mede8er script into Tagscanner.

Tagscanner is now creating TrackList.xml (and not Tracklist.Xml) and guess what ... SCANNING works.

He has  also created a Music.db.

So far so good, keep you informed.  ;D

Hi
First things first  thanks to jer1956,  :)

Working, making db and search working right.

I have one final question not sure if its related to my albums taging with in tagscanner but appreciate your direction,

I have a triple album same artist
In tag-editor  top left  I have input the  first album..... disc 1 / 3 and so on.
In tagscanner  music- renamer .... Format of filename... I have input  .... 1 - %artist% - %title%... all the track are highlighted
then I have renamed, then I have done the same for the next two albums changing input 2 then 3.

The file names  look like this ... 1-01 - Jumpin' Jack Flash.flac,
                                                         2-02 - Honky Tonk Women.flac
                                                         3-03 - Beast Of Burden.flac
On the Mede8er it scans makes db, shows album ,show all tracks, but I can only play one Album ( all track in that album), I get a message Invalid  when I try to play another track from the other albums 2 or 3.

The .bd is made from the Tracklist.xml, not the file names. The player is still  the media library based plays that show file names, not database contents.  So  only 1 album exists in the .db

I think the scripts are OK.
The reason of the upper case  X (in stead of lower case) and lower case l (in stead of Upper case) in Tracklist.Xml lies within Tagscanner.
In the Text transform windows,  there was a check at change case, which shouldn't be there.  :-\

The album name and artist names have to be combined in one order or the other in the database. That is how albums with the same name but by different artists is managed.

Sorry I do  not understanding , could you please show me an example .

Just watch this demo video:-
http://www.mede8er.org/artwork/temp/Mede8er_Music_Jukebox_V2.0.4_Preview.mp4

You always get album and artist displayed for album "name" because they  are combined in the database.

Artist means Track Artist, not Album Artist. Album artist does not have it's own  field, it's combined with the album name.

So  for a compliation...each  track can have it's own artist, and the album has to have  Various as the Album Artist.

Some prefer that..there are two tagscanner scripts you  can pick. It sounds like you would prefer the one you didn't download.

http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_music_jukebox_user_guide_x2_x3.html

There are two script links in that guide.

One  reason they prefer that is because All sorts alpha numeric. So  "Artist - Album name" groups all albums by the same artist together.  Users who like to "browse" All prefer that...personally I do  everything via the Menu.

I have each Album its own folder named the same other than adding Disc 01,Disc 02
each track is numbered 1-01 ,1-02 and so on Disc 02 track numbered 2-01, 2-02

At what point in the process?  When you try to play a track?

Can you build a small test jukebox like I did?  Just have the two problem folders with a couple of tracks, and build  a jukebox. If that has the invalid error then zip/rar it complete with xml and database, and post it on test ftp.

We described two methods for dealing with Double albums...and you have merged them.

You can either have two  folders with a unique album title "tag" for each i.e. live (disk1), live (disk2).

or

You can have a single album title "tag" and a single folder with all the tracks in it, with the tracks identified uniquely instead.

I think you need all the tracks in one folder...at the moment half of them have pointers to  the wrong folder as one album name can only have one path.

I just copied the tracks  from the first folder to the second...and even without rebuilding it now plays.  The path to  the second folder would have over-written the path to  the first, as an album name "tag" can only have one path.

When I play an album  I get the artist before the album name  , have I a setting wrong?

(To avoid the database mixing up the same Album name by different Artists we suggest you use the 'AlbumArtist' tag Another advantage of using the 'Albumartist' tag is that the Artist will be displayed after the Album name on the 'All' page and any Album based page).
