This 'Source Code' refers that raw code which makes up the firmware before it has been compiled to run. This has been released under the conditions of 'General Public License (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gpl)'.
(There are probably better definitions out there if you Google it but this is pretty much the gist of it.)
Without any disrespect intended, if one needs to ask what it is then it is best not to bother with it at all - this is only useful to those with a clear understanding of programming should they wish to 'look under the hood', or add or modify certain functionality.
Please note: Source Code is not compiled firmware - it will not run on your Mede8er.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this source is only the source of the open source, 3rd party, components that Sanji uses to make the actual firmware. Sanji is obliged to supply these with it's compiled firmware due to the GPL license, hence the download link here.
If you download this source, you will not be able to compile the complete firmware required to run the Mede8ter.

I believe that is correct - it's only that part of the source that falls under the GPL, excluding any proprietary code.
