Title: Firmware Update - v1.2.3 in Beta testing
Post by: Insomniac on November 13, 2009, 10:39:14 AM
Hi Mede8ers!

This is just a quick announcement to keep everyone up to date with what's happening with the firmware update story.

We expect to receive the Beta firmware today for release to our Beta testers only.

This will be the v1.2.3 bug-fix release which resolves issues such as Internet radio, HDD size reporting errors, DVD subtitles not working, the pause-sound issue, plus a few other bugs which have been picked up both internally as well as by users. Wireless transmission speed and GUI navigation have also been optimised.
The latest SDK released by Realtek this Monday was also incorporated into this firmware release which did delay things a little, as could be expected when one replaces a huge chunk of code, where a few new issues needed to be tidied up.

Please note that this will be a bug-fix release and will not necessarily focus on adding new functionality beyond some minor mods, so don't expect a whole lot of changes - the fixes are behind the scenes... New functionality will only be part of the next firmware generation (v1.3) - for which there is no timing at this point.

Depending on feedback received, we anticipate to release a final for 1.2.3 towards the middle of next week. Of course this seriously depends on the results of testing conducted.
On this note Mede8er commits to release firmware that has already been tested intensely - firmware releases will not be rushed just to keep up with a firmware race. It is trusted that the results will be well worth the wait.

Hi Mede8ers,

In the interest of keeping everyone up to date, the beta for the awaited 1.2.3 firmware release was rejected due to SDK issues that would affect backward compatibility with previous firmware versions.

Mede8er officials have made the decision that this scenario would not be acceptable and have pulled the Realtek SDK update from the projected release.

The result of this is that we're looking at an interim 1.2.2a release that will shortly be made available without the new SDK which will resolve the immediate issues, such as Internet Radio not working, HDD size reporting issues, DVD subtitles not displaying, and some other minor bugs and typos.

Here's a post from Hi-Jack on the MPC Club forums after a discussion with Sanji officials (http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21872).

Sit tight guys - firmware update information will be announced soon.
