If you are reading this topic its because you have bought, or going to buy one of the mede8er players available in the market

First and foremost the tutorial only tends to show the basics of the mede8er players, theres more settings and features available to use apart from what is written here....enjoy

Organize your library

the x3d players allow to make a jukebox, a wall of organized movies to quick select and watch the movie from the remote or IOS device with appropiate app.

The x3d makes scan of the movies inside your hard drive, but for that it need to follow one simple rule :

Every movie needs to be in is own individual file, see the example :

1- root folder
2- movies folder  (2D, 3d, dvd, concerts)
3- individual movie folder
4- movie file

See the remote, make sure you are familiar with it, the Menu KEY  in particular

My gut feeling says you're scanning the wrong folder.

Step 32 says: "32- go to favorites". It should be read as: "32- go to favorites and highlight your movies folder". Then go to step 33.

Great guides thank you very much :)

I have one quick question though regarding the folder structure.

I am ONLY using an internal 4TB Harddrive.

I would like to Organize my Video content into "Films 2D", "Films 3D" and "Concerts" as per your example.

Do I just put these 3 folders onto the root of my drive ?

Or do i create a Folder "Video" on the root and then place the three above  folders inside that one ?

Thanks for the help

You can put them on root and then create favorites.

Really having problems with the scraper, following the steps above and conforming to the correct folder structure I'm getting all the wrong metadata when scanning the "TV SERIES" folder.  What is being returned is the nearest match for the TV SERIES name from a movies database, i.e. the information provided is for a movie with the same name as the TV series.
Anyone able to throw some light on this.

When I scan the "MOVIES" folder no metadata is returned at all.

I must say this is a very hard system to deal with in relation the scraping, the manual often refers to using this database app or that database app but offers no information on how to download and install them.

Are you scanning TV series  separately, or as part of a broader scrape of everything?

If you accept the scraper aggreement you  get the latest versions of the scrapers loaded for you on every  boot.

Google for the program File2folder. It creates a folder with the same name as the file and places the file in it.

I tried to get this working for almost a year now, and since my mede8er1000x3d is not accessible thourgh the network anymore since a power outage in december. I decided to use this newbies guide to start from scratch.

However, this munual does not seem to be made for newbies, cause i do not understand most of it...

I got it until step 14. but 15 and further is beyond me (I really do not understand what i am supposed to do there), but the 27-C looks very familiar again. What in heaven's name do I fill in as User Name and Password?? It always asks me for this, but i really do not know where i have to get this password from?

Can you help me with that?

I have been trying to upgrade my firmware for sometime now, having followed all of the instructions from the quick guide, and the above guides I still can't get past the Mede8er symbol on the screen.
Currently I am on firmware version 1.05 and would like to upgrade to the latest version but somehow I cannot get it to work.
One possibility is my memory stick is 32Gb in size, could this be a problem for the current firmware / software to recognise?

You will need your mede8er connected to the internet, by lan cable through your network or by wifi.
The scraper uses several websites for the needed scraping information.

See the user guides here;

hey
i connected my mede8er600x3d via internet, auto ip, the connection was successful, however the scraping still went to no avail, i did all that was counseled here in the tutorium step by step

all works fine exept that i dont get any image, the same is the case when i try to manually scrape movies: the round sign for internet connection appears where it normally should load the cover images and description etc and then no failure message appears but no images either, i use version 3.0.1
hope someone can help me...

Hi, Thanks for all the info.
Just switched from a WD player since they've abandoned updating it.
My med600x3D is a lot smoother and a more modern look.
Just a simple question please:
Do I need to eject the external hard disc every time I switch off, or does the power off procedure do for me automatically ?

Hi all,
I have just switched from Y2M to the internal scraper and for some reason when I edit a movie title, after being scraped, I cannot get the Jukebox+ to show the newly edited information.
This is what I am doing:
Going into Media Library
Then to movie I want to change the scrape, for example 2 Guns, I edit the details, as in change the fan art etc and save it
Then exit and scan the movie folder, it returns 0 movies added (which is correct) I then add the movie folder to the Jukebox+
Go to Jukebox+ and check the movie 2 Guns and the data is exactly the same as it was before I edited it.
This is where I am stuck, any suggestions please? I have tried scanning the Jukebox+, I have tried adding the media library folder to favourites and then adding that to the Jukebox+ folder.
I am sure it is something simple.

Another thing I notice is that if I go to edit when in my Jukebox+ folder nothing happens and I cannot edit any data from within the Jukebox+ folder - This is perhaps tied in with the issues I am having above ?

If you edit the source you have to  rebuild jukebox+.

You can now edit the jukebox+ directly and the modified scrape will  be synced to  the source so  that if you have to  rebuild from  scratch the source is up to date.

The problem with any guide is it gets out of date...

Thanks - I cannot edit the Jukebox+ though, if I press edit nothing happens apart from it jumping back to the main screen with all of my movies showing. I thought I read somewhere that you can now edit directly from Jukebox+ and it will write back to the source folder.

Could you please confirm exactly how I rebuild Jukebox+

You  edit jukebox+ by  oking an icon to bring up the about. Edit then starts scrape edit.

When you start jukebox+ you get cover icons for each movie. If you OK an icon you get the about displayed. Normally you then press OK again to start the movie. If you use the edit (pen) button instead then scrape edit starts.

Doh I am an idiot!
I am using a Harmony remote and the button for editing is different from the original remote. Used the original remote and voila it works perfectly.
Thanks for your patience.

Now to re-programme the Harmony........ ;D

I just set up my MED800X3D (V3.0.6)  for the first time yesterday. I transferred some movies (using the correct folder structure) to the internal hard drive. I then scanned the hard drive and the movie metadata was correct for all but one. So I then scraped that movie and that was it.

I now noticed that when I select a movie, there are icons for the iso file and for the movie cover art. This doesn't seem right. I've attached an image. How do I fix this?

You need points 24 and 30 from the guide.

24 and 30 were made. The screenshot I attached was using the Media Library GUI. When I go the Favourites GUI, the icons are not there and provides a slightly different user interface. Is all this normal?

What's does you favourite screen look like? Is it empty?

Do you see a looking glass when using media library? Before selecting any movie that way, use the search button if the looking glass is there.

You have to enter jukebox mode by using favourites or the looking glass. Jukebox mode is different from just browsing via media library.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize there was difference between the jukebox mode and media library mode. I'm just trying to understand the user interface.

You need to have an icon with the same name as the movie.  Usually your cover.jpg.  Copy and then paste cover.jpg into the movie folder.

So if your iso is named xxxx.iso you need to rename the cover(1).jpg to xxxx.jpg.  Then that icon will load instead of the default one you are showing in your picture.

Also you need to hit Menu and go down to the view options and tell it "Movie".  You are displaying every thing remotely graphic related.

Guys, I know this has been covered ad nauseam on the forums but no matter what I try I cannot scrape from the TV Series favourite icon.
I focus on the Favourite Link ‘TV Series’ and press the ‘Menu’ button and then 'Scan'. The scanning message comes up briefly but ends without any series being scanned.
However if I select the Favorites icon and then highlight a particular series it does get scraped correctly after selecting 'Menu' -->'Scan'.. So this works but is tedious to have to scrape individual series rather than the whole TV Series section at once.

This suggests to me that I have the naming convention correct for each individual series but not at the higher level seen by using the TV Series favorite short-cut. Below is an exact example of my folder structure and file naming convention, can anyone spot what is wrong?

Root Folder:         TV Series
Sub Folder:                  Orphan Black
Sub Folder:                          Season 01
Files:                                                Orphan Black - S01E01.mkv
                                                          Orphan Black - S01E02.mkv
                                                          etc...
Sub Folder:                          Season 02
Files:                                                Orphan Black - S02E01.mkv
                                                          Orphan Black - S02E02.mkv
                                                          etc..

I understand that I do not have the series name included in the file name but is this necessary?  Since the series scrapes OK if each series is selected individually I have figured it is OK.

Thanks.

Hello ,
Could you please help me with this question ?

I have one internal PC drive, one usb drive and med internal HDD

  On internal PC

  Movies
         HD movies
         Concerts
On external USB Can I keep the same structure or should I renamed like this ?

   Movies1
        HD movies1
        Concert1

I want to  add the shares to favorites and I want to see if I add 2 directories from different sources with identical names is OK ?

Can I merge on video wall movies from 2 directories into  folder shortcut ?

Many thanks ,

You can't merge folders, only scanned jukeboxes which have a database.  So the sequence is not "merge then jukebox", its "jukebox then aggragate".

Hello dear members,

I have the med1000x3d and I love it until now , but now am stuck in jukebox agregate etc. until now I do :

   on PC I have : Movie .../MoviesHD/moviexxx/movie.mkv
   on USB drive  Movie1--  /MoviesHD1/moviexxx/movie.mkv

  1.
I have done the jukebox with yadis, Yadistomed8er.
I also add the shortcuts to favorites from both location and works very well :)
On favorites screen I see MoviesHD from PC hdd and MoviesHD1 from USB HDD.(I used Scan folder and finds all movie information)., I can  use the info button from remote control.

   2
Now I want to have on video wall one directory example:Movies that contains all the movies from MoviesHD and MoviesHD1 from both location? I suppose this is called agregate jukobox.
It is possible to do that ?

      The  med1000x3d has 3.06 firmware.

Many thanks in advance  ,I am new to this kind of stuff

Pls check the User Guide for JukeBox Plus

http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_JukeBox_Plus_user_guide_V0.html (http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_JukeBox_Plus_user_guide_V0.html)

You can also do this in Yadis2Mede8er and you will need to read this thread http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,10081.0.html (http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,10081.0.html)

You can use external tool - Universal Mede8er Jukebox Aggregator

Every movie needs to be in is own individual file, see the example :

1- root folder
2- movies folder  (2D, 3d, dvd, concerts)
3- individual movie folder
4- movie file

(http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/5484/k7v0.png) (http://img845.imageshack.us/i/k7v0.png/)
1.
Do 3 & 4 have to contain ONLY the movie-name (and incidentally match)?
For example, what if my filename looks like:

The.Movie.Name.1988.1080p.BluRay.x264-NGP.mkv

Would it be OK if 3 & 4 = The.Movie.Name.1988.1080p.BluRay.x264-NGP

Or do 3 & 4 need to simply = The.Movie.Name

I figure per another post above I'll use "File2folder...[to] create...a folder with the same name as the file and place...the file in it".

2.
Am I correct to assume that per the example all subtitles in the folder will be available (instead of just ones named identically to the movie like my old TViV)?

Your structure looks fine per the screenshot you posted. You should be able to make an 'Aggregated Jukebox' ie JukeBox+ from these favourites without any file or folder renaming ie the filename does not need to match the folder name.

Process to make a JukeBox +

1. Make sure the USB Hard Drive has a name
2. Make a new folder that can be  on any location ie local HDD, USB Drive, Samba Share or NFS share and name this folder what you want
3. Navigate to the folder in the X3D Media Library and press the 'Menu' button and select 'Add to Favourites.
4. Go to the Favourites screen and focus on the folder you just added and press the 'menu' button and select ' Aggregate JukeBox' and the folder thumbnail image will change to a JukeBox+ image
5. Focus on the Favourite  'FILMES 2D' and press the 'Menu' button and select add to 'JukeBox+' and the movies will be added
6.  Focus on the Favourite  'Filmes 3D' and press the 'Menu' button and select add to 'JukeBox+' and the movies will be added
7. Now you can open the JukeBox+ and all the movies should be in one JukeBox
8. You do the same process in step 6 and 7 if he added new movies to the source folders

We added 'Subtitle Browse' functionality to latest beta's so the subtitles can be any name and in any location.

Thank you very much for your helpful reply, Mede8er1!

That wasn't my screenshot, that screenshot was quoted from the thread's first post...so I still please need to ask:

Do the filename and/or foldername have to contain ONLY the movie-name?
For example, what if my filename and/or foldername looks like:

The.Movie.Name.1988.1080p.BluRay.x264-NGP.mkv

Would it be OK if filename and/or foldername = The.Movie.Name.1988.1080p.BluRay.x264-NGP
?

Or do 3 & 4 need to simply = The.Movie.Name like in the original post's screenshot?

Maybee set write enable for the maps that you want to add to mede8er.
So go to your source files and make sure mede8er has read + write permission, without that your files wont show up.

Good luck.

The only way is to use VPN to connect to your home network.
Your router needs to support that to setup a VPN connection to it and then access your local network over the internet.

The samba server will mount both internal  and external local storage (USB) for access via the network.  What  you cant do  is connect to the "player", and go  wandering around its operating system to  find what  you want.

I have scrapped my library using the Mede8er scrapper. I have a 600x3d running 4.0.1 Beta. I have 2 questions regarding the scrapper:
1). My movies are ISO rips. I have a couple of movies that span 2 disk (part1 and part2). Both are located in the same movie folder. When I select the movie from the Wall, there's only one disk showing for the movie inside the movie detail screen. How should I be handling 2 disk movies?
2). When I scrapped my TV series DVDs, each episode has a title section in the scrapped XML file with the correct title for the episode. However, the title is nowhere to be seen on the Video Wall or detail screen. I tested manually editing the XML by copying the title into the description section. I could now see the title displayed. My TV series library has 100+ episodes, I don't want to have to manually edit each one. Is there a way to have the title displayed somewhere somehow?

Thanks,

-- Scott

I also have some movies that are in two parts and also need to know the proper naming for Jukebox Plus to recognize them properly. I assume there is a way other than create two folders and scan as two movies with Part 1 and Part 2.

That I know of, no. You will have to combine the 2 using the append feature of mkvMerge.

I've done it with the Hobbit series and never had an issue. Rip's audio and video have to be identical, and the chapters of the second have to continue were the first one left off. Say first one has 23 chapters, second one has to start at chapter 24, 25, 26, etc... I renamed them with MakeMKV prior to the conversion.  I've read it can be done with mkvMerge, just never done it myself so won't be able to tell you how.

I was very happy when I bought my mede8er but due to the lack of enhancements (big reason I also bought it) I wouldn't advice this. I switched over to Plex and I love it so much more. Having problems with Jukebox+.
Had it working fine them made a mistake when I added a new film so thought I would start from scratch.
Reset Jukebox+ and deleted old folder. Created a new folder set it to favourites clicked aggregate jukebox
clicked on eack of my 2 folders and added them to jukebox+ and got a message saying films moved.
opened jukebox+ and had only a folder called data.
Opened this and it had all the covers clicked on a cover which brought up the film info screen but no film and no amount of clicking started a film which were still ok in their original folders.
Have now tried all of this three times with the same result.
Have read the jukebox for beginners ad nauseum so am now stuck.
Any help would be much appreciated

Hi,

Just purchased a 600X3D and implementing the set up procedure. All worked as per manual until I reached the TagScanner set up. I have multi codecs so cannot use the basic direct scanner. The problem is that Tagscanner does not appear to recognize the Mede8er Script ie it is not showing up in the Export Setting window, despite being present in the script folder ( screen shot attached ).

I am running W10 and following the instructions provided here :  http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_music_jukebox_user_guide_x2_x3.html

Help would be appreciated as this is a bit of a show stopper at the moment.

Problem now sorted - found the post here : http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=10945.0

The script also needs to be pasted into " C:/Users/ "username"/ Appdata/ Roaming/Tagscanner/scripts.  "

I am also running Win10. I coped the Mede8er script  'XX_Mede8er - Export_XML_Group_by_Artist_netapi.tse' to the Script folder and it works as expected. Note I did not copy the Tagscanner folder to Program Files and just left it in the download folder (not sure if this has any impact on the problem you reported) I also copied the Mede8er script to the 'bckp' folder inside the script folder. I hope this maybe helps you sort this out.

Why not use the built in Movie Scraper?
Here is the User Guide

Hi,
My first post so if I'm in the wrong place I apologize. I have just purchased a Mede8er MED800X3D Wi-Fi 3D Media Player with 4TB Hard Disc. V4.
Windows 7 - Dell Laptop - Sky Router
I can't see the web remote on my laptop using Chrome, just a blank page with a Not Secure icon. It does show up on explorer but only some of the buttons work. There are a number of old posts about this but I was wondering if this issue had been resolved.
That's just one of many issues, I'm having a nightmare setting it up on my network, I can see the icon but when I click it asks for a network username and password which I've never been asked for with other devices. After 10 hours I feel like I should send it back to Amazon, partly my fault for not being up to speed with this technology, but it's not as simple as it makes out on the website, certainly not plug and play. I can't find any product support in the UK and there is no way I'm phoning South Africa. :(
Thanks

It isn't a support issue. It isn't plug'n'play. You will find plenty of guides here. The issue is it's an "Old School" player from 2012. Many appreciate what it can do, and wanted production extended. Those expecting a 2016 player using ARM design chips shouldn't get it. It's like buying a Triumph Kick Start Retro Motor Bike, in an age of push button bikes. Some want the Triumph, others will say it unsaleable without push button start.

Thanks, I take your point, I just didn't know what I was letting myself in for, but at least I know how to start, ride, and fix a Triumph :)

The remote is so simple it's unusable. To interact with the database and select things to play you need a Net Api  client. The players is full of features users should use like a toolbox. Some are best suited to one thing rather than another. But that means it isn't plug'n'play, that means one way to do anything, not 2 or 3

Well things are looking better now. I've managed to get the web remote working on (ie), as I use chrome I'll just use the (ie) desktop icon for the remote, which I'll probably rarely use. I've also sorted the password access, I didn't understand and wasn't using the default username (root), I've now switched off samba security in any case. I've also now added a short MP4 video clip which plays no problem. Loads to get my head around and get to grips with but I am far more optimistic now. ;D

It isn't as complicated as that. Follow the Movie Scraper guide on this page

http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_X3_movie_scraper_user_guide_V3.html

The only real issue is anything internet related failing due to slow DNS. Check that with youtube. Is it loading? If not, that means changing the DNS server being used in the players lan setup.

Oops! deleted my last post as I didn't see your reply. Yes YouTube works fine. Inside the folder is the MKV file with the same name and an xml file, which has just a line of text, no xml file is visible when viewing on my TV?
I think I found some thing in a post from a couple of years back, not sure if that is still the same setup with the V4.0.2 I bought. but when I pressed scan I didn't receive an option to accept the T&C.

You don't add any XML, that's the scrapers job. All users need to do is rip movies, and put them in folders. Do a Restore Default to reset the database question. Scrape (including it's XML) cannot be created if you ignored the first request not knowing what it meant.

The aim is to create a searchable Movie Jukebox, achieved by the scanning the parent folder of the collection, not scan each movie folder one by one.

That worked a treat and really brings the X3D to life. I need to read up to find out what to switch on/off/auto etc, and load my old DVDs in MKV. Thanks very much for your help, brilliant!  ;D

Hi,
Should the database question pop up the first time someone uses the TVDB, if so I missed that as well as TMDB, which now works great.  Will I have to restore default again to get a separate question for TVDB and do I need to download anything for TV series scrapping? All folder structures are correct as instructed with each episode manually entered which takes ages, but when I try it, it seems to give a cover image and series info but no images for episodes. If a series only ran for one season do we still need the season folder? THANKS.

Have you read the TV Series guide? It is not the same as for movies.

I have, but confusion sets in when it says you must accept the Terms and Conditions. It's not clear if I need to do it again after accepting the Movie scraper T&C, and it doesn't mention shows that just ran for one season, although I take it that they'll all be season 1.  If images should appear  for each episode it doesn't mention so I don't know if it's working correctly. I'll keep trying, scanning the root and each folder separately and I'll also try it in favourites, it's all good practice till I get it right.

The declaration is for both databases. It's just to say you understand the use is optional....you have not been charged. It dosn't come as part of the cost of buying the player.

You must trigger a TV scan to get episode icons. That requires the TV Series text string to be part of the parent folder being scanned. Otherwise you get a Movie Scan.

Thanks, I added another couple of TV series and it's scanning just fine, well mostly, this time it's not my fault so I feel better  ;D. The problem is that TVDB just doesn't  have the images, or in some cases the episode info for some of my DVDs, mostly 1970s TV like the Capone Investment, Plays for Britain, Out, etc. I can live with that for now though as I've so many DVDs to load, hopefully someone will upload images in the future. The real pain, which I've found a few comments on, is the aspect ratio of most of my MKV files playing back in 4:3 aspect ratio no matter what the settings are at on my X3D and TV. Playing the discs on my DVD player they always go to 16:9, but on the X3D my only option is to zoom in which case I lose too much picture detail, or adjust the width on the remote every time. Is there a way round this without going through every mkv and modifying with software?

Is your DVD player SD? HD requires full frame with the 4/3 frame inside it. The black is not "no video", but "black video". Because HD is always full frame, they don't have clever stretching to expand HD 4/3 in the TV's. Clever stretching is not a player function, it's an SD mode in the TV, even with your DVD player. To trigger that mode in your TV, you must force SD out of the player using the TV Sys button, as required.

Thanks for explaining about the black video, I did'n't know that. My DVD is a high spec. Toshiba HD player connected to a Sony 40" with an HDMI. This set up always plays back to fill the screen with the option on the TV for smart, wide or Zoom (more options when watching TV bypassing my DVD player) but it's never 4:3. I've found the best picture setup for viewing these old TV shows is to stretch the width of the picture with the X3D remote, leaving the height as standard. If there was a memory or even a shortcut to this it would be great but it's no big deal, so long as everyone is in the same boat and I'm not missing a simple solution.

Zoom has two storable settings. Pick one, change Width, and the result is stored. You get the same width setting every time you chose that stored setting.

Thanks, I'll play with that and my TV settings to get the best results, but it's no great hardship to change manually and that way I'll be sure I'm getting the best outcome for each show.
I'll soon be loading my music DVDs and as there won't be an interactive menu for song/artist selection, and scraper can't work with these DVDs, I was wondering what my options are. Make mkv will convert and copy chapters to the start of each music video but without a menu or scraped info it'll be a pain. Would my best option be to scan the DVD cover track listing and add the jpeg to the folder? At least that way I could press menu, look at the displayed image, pick the video number I want to watch e.g. track 12 and just skip and count to the track. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated as I have over 100 music DVDs to copy and I would like to get it right. Sorry to be a pest, but I'm learning this technology as I go :P

Music DVD's are best handled as a seperate Movie Jukebox. Music jukebox is for ripped Cd and downloaded tracks.

There is an iso player which runs the menu system on the disk. Are they dvd in burnable iso form?

Yes and no, I think. They are all on DVD, 3 types - official releases - downloads to discs from exchange sites (both with interactive menus) and my own TV compilations from VHS conversions on a DVD/VHS/HDD where each track has a menu link painstakingly typed in with the player remote, what a nightmare that was. Anyway things have moved on now and armed with a just a laptop and Make MKV I'm really happy with my work and the X3D so far on movies and TV series, but I suspected this would be a stumbling block. I know this is not a technical detailed response but an idiots guide would be great. What would you do in my shoes?

One persons "Idiots Guide" becomes another's "Do you really think i am that stupid?" guide. It's difficult to get a balance. Even when we give answers we can trigger the latter response from some users.

Clever stretching is not a player function, it's an SD mode in the TV, even with your DVD player. To trigger that mode in your TV, you must force SD out of the player using the TV Sys button, as required.

I do not yet own a Mede8er but was looking to possibly purchase one and one of my big questions is whether it could easily adjust 4:3 content to 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratios.  I own another Realtek 1186-based player that does do this (has a button right on the remote that switches between those 3 ratios).  If the video is 4:3 and you select 16:10, it makes it a bit wider but not so wide that it makes the characters look fat (just like how some TV stations broadcast 4:3 content in 16:10 for this same reason).  If you select 16:9, it stretches the full way.  I assumed that the 600x3d could do the same since it is using the same chipset.  But this answer I ran across from you to another poster seems to say that it does not allow for that?  Am I understanding you correctly on that?

I have a mix of 4:3 and 16:9 content and for the 4:3 sometimes I like to watch in 16:10 and sometimes 16:9 (rarely do I watch it actually in 4:3).  I have no interest in setting a one-size-fits-all setting on my TV.  I expect the player to be able to handle this and output in the format I desire and again my current 1186 player does do this very well (but has other non-related quirks that led me to see about getting a different player).  Grateful for any insight here.

The last batch of players where really made for those wanting to add more players to the one they had. It is 2012 Technology and can no longer have firmware upgrades.  It never did auto crop/zoom to minimize windowing.
