Title: Automatic FourCC Changer
Post by: Lupissimo on March 09, 2013, 06:49:32 am
Due to the license issues regarding the DIVX FourCC we have developed a tool using some of the  FourCC source code of "AVI FourCC Changer v1.00 - www.inmatrix.com" which scans your movies for the FourCC values and changes them automatically to a new value given by the user (e.g. XVID). As you are working on your precious movie files, precaution is required not to corrupt them. One should always make a run WITHOUT replacing the FourCC first and keep this protocol as a reference in case you have to revert the changes. In the protocol you can see ALL FourCCs of your movies and can then choose the values which have to be replaced ( e.g. ONLY DIVX, DV50) Start the program again and set XVID as the replacement. You will see the results in the new protocol. The program only works on avi files. There are also some mkv files which contain divx encoded movies. These will NOT be found nor changed. For those you will have to use the header editor in mkvmerge to change them.

The program is written using german text. But the manual has some explanations.

Thanks! Just needed a tool tool like this. Works great!

BEWARE : I just found out after "converting" 10% of my 6000 files that DIV3 and DIV4 do not work with a change to XVID!! It looks like ONLY DIVX and DV05 can be changed!! This leaves me with some 40 movies which I need to reencode! Unless there is another workaround! The med600X3 says illegal startcode and only plays back sound.

I updated the Readme Manual to incorporate the inability to change DIV3 ! Please exchange the Readme file with the attached!

Thanks for your tool! It's working fine for me.
Is it possible to run the prog in "silent" mode, so without any confirmation via return and the window close automatically?

Dude

Since you normally only use it a couple of times and not regularly, "silent mode" is not  implemented.
Title: Re: Automatic FourCC Changer
Post by: The-Dude on May 19, 2013, 03:03:50 pm
For new files I would use it regularly every day. I use onlinetvrecorder.com and use most the divx format.
Your tool is the best FourCC Changer i've found to change many files in one time. I use a batch which does other things before and after changing the FourCC. That's the reason I ask for.
But it's OK as it is.

This tool was developed, when the "divx" issue came up with FW 2.0 for the med600/1000 series. It was intended to help you finding all files in your library which will not be played back with FW 2.0. It lists all potentially problematic files and changes the fourcc for those which after changing to XVID will be played. If you just need to change a known file you better use the fourcc changer which you can find here: http://www.fourcc.org/changer/

Dear Lupissimo,
this tool is fantastic! Thank you very much!

You saved me a lot of trouble with this tool as i had a disk filled with avi files many of which were with "Divx" header. I was trying to correct them one at a time but yesterday i tried your tool and all was done at once, fast and most importantly easily!

If i had anything to add it would be a better manual on how it works (it took me some time to understand it and get it done) and maybe an English translation on the program itself.

Anyway to sort things out for other users that want to try it here are my instructions:
1) unzip the "Lupos_FourCC.rar " at a directory
2) run it (the "Lupos_FourCC.exe" file)
3) in the screen appearing insert the "volume":\"directory" you want scanned
4) let it scan for .avi video files and afterwards (when it finishes the scan) end the program (press "esc")
5) edit the "Lupos_FourCC.INI" file and change the line
"ersetzen =   ; kein Ersetzen = nur Liste"
with
"ersetzen = XVID"
save the file and close the editor
6) now rerun the program and enter the  "volume":\"directory" that the you entered at step 3 and
7) Voila, it will change all "divx" headers for you

HINTS:
1)at  "volume":\"directory" you can enter a hole disk volume, for example i did it for an external disk (1tb) labeled as "G:\" and it did everything in less than 2 minutes
2) you can just start from step (5) at the above but in that case you  will not have the first protokoll (Lupos_FourCC.txt) so you can revert the changes later if there are problems.

EDIT: edited to get instructions (a little) more understandable...

Yes. I also tried 3 different PC's and all does the same. I believe it is either the amount of episodes (17000) or something inside one of the season folders even though all where generated with TvRename.

Yeh I been looking into this.. Unfortunately the only way to run PPC apps on the later osx's would be using a virtual machine of older Osx's.. Defeating the purpose as you might as well have installed a Windows based virtual machine..

The developer's email no longer works and it seems it's been abandoned. Really hope some cocoa developer can code us an intel version.. Unless someone has an easier solution for us Mac users? Anyone?

I've spent a few hours searching for a mac solution to no avail.

I'll use handbrake to convert every avi to mp4. It will take time but probably a longer term solution.

I am trying lupissimo's tool but when I launch the .exe the command window closes immediately.

I am using a windows 7 laptop 64-bit with paragon to access the HFS+ drive hosting my movies. Any advice will be highly appreciated.

PS: FCCtool.exe works fine but you have to go to all your folders one by one and the batch created by Mr L is quite elegant

As I am not familiar with paragon, I assume it is a connection problem to your shares. I have my share on a NAS and all drives are connected under win7 as networkdrives F:,G:etc. I would try just to test copying some movies to your local drive on the laptop to see if that works and take it from there e.g. find out whether it is a connectio issue.

If you have a Windows Network, you can attach the networkdrive within windows and then use the Drive Letter: eg: D:\ or E:\ etc.

Hello All

First of all I must start by saying I am not a "Techie" therefore hope you will bare with me ....

I need to change the codec on the vast majority of my media files to XVID and have kindly been sent the link to the FourCC program however unfortunately I am struggling to understand how to use it ...(see above). Is there anybody out there who would be kind enough to provide an idiot  guide for me? I have my media stored on an external 3tb drive and would say that about 85% of it has been converted to AVI DIVX ...... it's a big problem

Hope somebody can help and thanks for reading

When you connect your external drive to your Windows PC there will be a drive letter assigned to it: e.g.: D:\ or E:\
This is the "Start Pfad" in the window which you open by starting the Lupos_FourCC.exe.

The Lupos_FourCC.ini for just scanning your files and indicating in the listing of Lupos_FourCC.txt which files are using what Four_CC, should look like this:

StartDir = E:\
Endungen = AVI, MKV
suchen   = DIVX, DX50
ersetzen = ; XVID  ; kein Ersetzen = nur Liste  << ; befor XVID
Protokoll überschreiben = FALSE

To replace the Four_CC it should be:

StartDir = E:\
Endungen = AVI, MKV
suchen   = DIVX, DX50
ersetzen = XVID
Protokoll überschreiben = FALSE

You terminate the program by using [ESC] and [Enter]

Hi

I gave this a go and unfortunately still no joy. I think I am doing something which is very basic wrong. This is what I did:

1) opened .ini file and changed the location to E:\media (my external drive and file location)
2) ran the main program
3) entered E:\media\films (folder to be scanned)
4) entered to run the scan
5) escaped then enter to end the program

Tried the external drive again tonight on the media player and the files that were divx still are saying are unsupported format. I think it's me being stupid but what am I doing wrong?
Title: Re: Automatic FourCC Changer
Post by: Lupissimo on June 27, 2014, 04:24:54 am
Whether anything was changed you can see in the Lupos_FourCC.txt protocol. I assume you used the ini with "ersetzen = XVID" and not with "ersetzen = ; XVID"  which only gives a list of potential files to be changed.
Can you check, whether those files are DIV3 , which is NOT divx and not compatible with the xvid codec. There is no solution for those files other than reencoding the movies.

Hi Lupissimo

Thanks for your assistance you're very kind

The codec is definateley DIVX as I have checked the software used to transfer from DVD. Everything else you asked me to check is also fine however I can't find the information on whether the files have been altered ...... the list I can see has the test default listing (G:\movies etc) not any of my files. Does this suggest my files have been converted or that like an idiot I'm looking in the wrong place?

Just to be sure the program finds anything do the following : Rename the 2 files "Lupos_FourCC.txt" and "Lupos_FourCC_ini_und_Protokoll.txt" so that new ones are created. Then you should run the program with "ersetzen = ; XVID" in the ini file. That way the program just lists your files without changing anything. Then just post a couple of lines of the Lupos_FourCC.txt files, so we can see whether any files were found at all.

By the way: To start the program after you have opened the command window by double clicking on the .exe file, you have to hit [Enter].

Hi Lupissimo

Here is a copy of the Lupos_FourCC.INI screenshot

 StartDir = F:\
Endungen = AVI
suchen   = DIVX,DX50
ersetzen = XVID  ; kein Ersetzen = nur Liste
Protokoll überschreiben = FALSE

F:\   is my drive address

Here is a copy of a couple of lines of the Lupos_FourCC.TXT after the scan of the F:\ has been scanned

XVID/XVID ->    dto.      G:\MOVIES\MOVIES OVERIGE TEST\17 Again (2009)\nedivx-17again.avi
XVID/XVID ->    dto.      G:\MOVIES\MOVIES OVERIGE TEST\4 Music videos\Pink Floyd - Pulse (1994)\Pink Floyd - Pulse 1994.Concierto.avi
XVID/XVID ->    dto.      G:\MOVIES\MOVIES OVERIGE TEST\40 Days & 40 Nights\40 Days & 40 Nights.avi
H264/H264 ->    dto.      G:\MOVIES\MOVIES OVERIGE TEST\5 Series\Chicago Fire\Season 1\Chicago Fire S01E01.avi

As you can see it hasn't listed any of my files but retained the test listing .....

Title: Re: Automatic FourCC Changer

Absolutely sure, after hitting enter the program ran the scan and showed the number of files checked. I then pressed (esc) and (ent) to close the program as directed but as you can see no change to the .txt file. I have tried this now on 2 seperate hard drives and my desktop and laptop. I have had an IT instructor friend look at this today and he is getting the same result .  This is exactly what I'm doing:

1. Changing and saving the .ini file first
2. Running the program (my hard drive path automatically shows up on my laptop but has to be entered manually on the desktop)
3. Once the scan has completed pressing esc and ent
4. Checking the .txt file to see the results (as you can see they are not being brought forward)

It's a real mystery, I have found a program that will convert  individually but were talking well over 1tb of files, it will take an age

in other words: if your movies on F:\ are in a directory F:\allmymovies\movie1,movie2,etc your start directory should be F:\allmymovies\ and not just F:\

Have you mapped it to a drive so that a pPC can treat it as a drive?  If you then unrar the tool on the mapped drive it won't need to worry about pointing over the network.

Guys, Dabber01 asked for some manual for idiots. Since it did not work for me I wonder what kind of a moron must I be. Anyhow, I believe I've learnt everything about how the "Lupos_RourCC" program works - can be giving comprehensive lessons about it   ;), I've learnt by heart and understood the contents of both crucial documents: "Lupos_FourCC.INI" and "Lupos_FourCC.TXT" and understood what is their significance, I've learnt the sequence which should be performed to change the two FourCC values into "XVID", I've even learnt meanings of German words used in the interface of the program's window   :P, yet... do NOT know how to perform the required actions  :-[. I think I miss this basic knowledge WHAT exactly I should click and WHEN, and WHERE exactly should I insert required data to achieve the desired effect. So, it looks I'm an exceptional kind of an idiot, still hoping to do the job of changing those strange values into "XVID"...

Here is what I've managed to do:

1. I've downloaded the compressed file of the software on my Desktop, unpacked it, opened the resulted folder and opened the software window by double-clicking the "Lupos_FourCC.exe" file, which looked like that: L-01

2. Then I've clicked "Enter", which I believe was highly advised by someone somewhere in this thread, and got this look: L-02

3. I've dragged the folder containing the movie file to be altered with avi extension into the window of the software and this is the result: L-03 By the way, the disc containing the mentioned folder with the movie file is installed in my "Med800X3D" device, which was mapped and has a letter "X" attributed to it, if it ever matters.

4. Then I've pressed "Enter" and got this kind of the window: L-04

5. Then I've pressed "Esc" to exit the program's window which gave this kind of look to it: L-05.

6 Then I've pressed "Enter" again which effectively closed the program-window.

7. And then... I've got stuck. Nothing seemed to have changed in the "Lupos_FourCC.INI" or in the "Lupos_FourCC.TXT" files in the program's folder. Just do not know what to do next... Could somebody help a double-idiot with the step-by-step instruction what precisely, where and when should I click, enter or inset to do the job done, please...   :-\

P.S.
How to insert a proper attachment into the proper place in the text of the post to make it easier to read?
Title: Re: Automatic FourCC Changer
Post by: Lupissimo on March 06, 2015, 06:31:38 am
If you have mapped the drive you want to scan on your windows computer as X you have to TYPE the letter Z in the control window instead of drag and drop! If the movies you want to scan / convert are in subfolders in a folder you have to TYPE the pathname.    Also in the ini the line should be : ersetzen = xvid  and NOT ersetzen = kein Ersetzen nur Liste ( no replacement, listing only)
Title: Re: Automatic FourCC Changer
Post by: szaroczek on March 06, 2015, 07:58:59 am
Lupissimo, thank you for your concern in the first place. You proof some people have mercy for idiots.  :-[ However then:

1.
If you have mapped the drive you want to scan on your windows computer as X you have to TYPE the letter Z in the control window.

Are you sure I have to type "Z" instead of "X" in this case...?

2.
Also in the ini the line should be : ersetzen = xvid  and NOT ersetzen = kein Ersetzen nur Liste ( no replacement, listing only)

Do I do this change before opening the program window or in some other specific moment of the whole operation?

3. After the above are done I guess I press "Enter", then "Esc" and then "Enter" again to quit the application and the job should be done. Is it right or I still miss something?

And thank you again for your help. I genuinly hope there are many others next to myself who will benefit of your tremedous job :D
Title: Re: Automatic FourCC Changer
Post by: Lupissimo on March 06, 2015, 08:45:24 am
Sorry for the misunderstanding!
Whichever letter is your drive you should use. (If your moviefolders are in a special folder you should type that folder path (e.g. X:\films\ )
You have to change the ini BEFORE you start the command window , because the ini is loaded when you load the program.
With ENTER you start the process and after the result ESC and ENTER as you stated.
Title: Re: Automatic FourCC Changer
Post by: szaroczek on March 06, 2015, 12:07:41 pm
Lupissimo, thank you so very much, now IT DID WORK EVEN FOR ME!!!!!  :D  :D  :D Now I can run the process with and without making changes, I can correctly and effectively operate in the "INI" file, find the logs relating to my movie file before and after the change, and, and this is the more important, my movie after the whole operation is happily accepted by my Med800X3D player!!!! This is incredible!  ::) However, to make my knowledge complete:

1. How can I reverse the process, since I think I've learnt somewhere it is reversible in a case "something went wrong"?

2. How deep in the folder structure the application works? I mean if there is for example three-level structure, or sometimes even deeper, would it find the movie hidden so deep in a folder tree and operate on it, or it is necessary to move such a movie closer to the directory folder?

and now a stupid one ...:

3. Since MEDE3ER devices are "future-proof" is it possible to expect in some of the future firmware updates to have this problem solved without any additional operations having to be performed on the avi -type movie files, or the hardware structure of the devices would never allow for this kind of facilitation...?  ::)
Title: Re: Automatic FourCC Changer

3)

No. Changing the codec ID is basically "supporting" divx. Realtek can't afford the retrospective costs of never having a licence, which has to paid before they can put support back.

Who said they are future proofed?. They are not even "now" proofed, as we have 4k and h265 already.

1) Before you change ALL your divx movies you can generate a list of all possible candidates by changing "ersetzen = xvid" into " ersetzen = ;xvid " . In the Lupos_FourCC.txt you can see all the movies found and he potential change candidates. To revert back does not really make sense, because the divx movie can always be played using an xvid codec. ( Note that div3 cannot be changed! Those you will have to reencode)

2) In the Lupos_FourCC.txt you can see whether all your movies are found. If not you just make a new run and change the X:\ into the correct pass: eg: X:\upperFolder\lowerfolder2\ etc. ( I dont remember whether it scans more than 1 level.. :'(

No. Changing the codec ID is basically "supporting" divx. Realtek can't afford the retrospective costs of never having a licence, which has to paid before they can put support back.

Thank you for explanation.

Who said they are future proofed?. They are not even "now" proofed, as we have 4k and h265 already.

In the attachment there are two scans of the paper manual to my Mede800X3D; tittle page and page 1 with the statement I quoted  ;). By the way, jer1956, thank you for directing me to this software. With additional kind help of Lupissimo I endeavored to alter the parameters of my avi file successfully.

Lupissimo - thanks for additional explanations.

I tried this program and it worked well. Very easy to use. It is also able to change 4CC's on my NAS over a samba share without needing to mount drives.
The only thing and it's minor, is that is only change one code at a time. You need to run it a second time to get both DIVX and DX50, but the second run is even quicker.

"Allowed file types: gif, jpg, pdf, png, zip, xml, rar
Restrictions: 5 per post, maximum total size 200KB, maximum individual size 150KB"
For some reaon they must have changed the max size to be appended here. So I cannot attach the 600k rar.
I have uploaded it here:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ccz2j4nbyun9gx/Lupos_FourCC.rar?dl=0
Maybe a moderator can put it somewhere safe, since the dropbox will be cleared after a while.
