Title: Moviescraper
Post by: jmbosch on October 07, 2013, 09:55:12 AM
Hi,

I have a bunch of european movies that I tried to scrape. The scraper got all the titles and fanart correct but there is no plot outline. I did edit them all manually in the xml file but then I only see the plot outline in the overview and not when u click on the actual movie itself. Is there any easy way to have these movie scanned properly? And if not where do I edit the plot on the actual movie page itself?

There may not be a plot outline in your languge. You can try changing to  a second language in Setup...or failing that please add one to  the database. Don't just make your  own via the XML. Remember  all  the scrape you have found so  far was posted by other movie fans.

you would need an online account:-

Or you might not work in jukebox mode.
Is jukebox mode set to on in setup?
Did you map the top folder to favorites and open from the favorite menu?

Jukebox is on and the folder is in favorites. I think I have to set the jukebox language to english instead of dutch to make it work then

Can you give some example titles of movies that are missing plots?
It is easy to verify then if Dutch translation is avail on themoviedb website.
If it is not there, then it is sure that it is the root cause.

Il Y A Longtemps Que Je T'Aime (2008)
ImportExport (2007)
Inch'Allah (2012)
Les Chevaux de Dieu (2012)
Hannah Arendt (2012)

None of the mentioned movies had a Dutch translation on TheMovieDB.

So next time you can do the following when you run into the same:
1] add a translation yourself and contribute to https://www.themoviedb.org
Just create an account over there - it is pretty simple to add translations
2] or set temp the setting to English if you don't care to have English plot only.

I have just added all Dutch translations for these movies now (to show you that it will work), so you should be able to get Dutch plots when TheMovieDB has synchronised them to their api cache.
Do a rescrape tomorrow and I you sill get Dutch for those.

Editing the xml file doesnt help when into the movie box cause the info in the screen is in image format (.png)...

But it's possible to  rebuild the scrape as that function is needed if you want  a different scrape skin. You don't have to  re-scrape to re-skin.

It isn't the way it should be done as it means users are bypassing the scrape sharing agreement. Users should be willing to  add scrape to  the database, not just use what's there.

You can edit xml and then rebuild the about.jpg file.
Trick is to manually remove the about.jpg file, edit the xml file and do a new scan to rebuild the about.jpg

See this tip:
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,12159.0.html

But still best way is to contribute to https://www.themoviedb.org and add the translation.....
That will help to get as much as content avail for the scraper and everybody taking having the benefits of that.

That is way there are so many things online to autoscrape already - it is a community effort where everybody does some parts.....

You can..by changing the Scrape Language. A re-scrape with a different lanaguge should only add unscraped movies.  That might need fine tuning as you might  get a scrape with no XML the first time.

I thought you had no XML becuase there was no entry in your language?   Is it giving you  scrape in the wrong lanaguge, rather than no scrape?

No it's creating a XML but with no information.... it says unknown in the plot and description. Basically the same as on themoviedb site.

WE need to  tidy this up then....so  you don't have to manually delete xml or do each movie one by one using edit. How many are there?  You do know  you  can change the scrape lanaguge and then use scrape/edit?  For a few that is not a problem.

No, in that case you just change the scraping language in setup.
Then goto the movie you want to change and put focus on the movie folder.
Press menu button - choose edit. And press scrape.....
Then when selected the right movie, press save.

I deleted the xml files and scraped again in another language (dutch in this case) and the information is now correct and in dutch for 2 movies that had no english translation:

-onder ons
-lotgenoten

Would be nicer to have a second language if the other is not available but for now this works alright.

It would indeed be very nice, because now when a movie plot could not be scraped, first we have to delete the xml file by hand on the computer and then rescan the folder again..

Edit/scrape does not need a delete..it's just jmbosch did it anyway to get Scrape working.

If someone  is getting hundreds of movies with no scrape then edit/scrape is a poor solution. So far no one is...

Have you tried edit/scrape after changing the scrape language?
