It is possible to change the Album sorting in Muisc Jukebox by altering the Album name field in the Tagscanner script. The default script is linked to the HTML guide:-

http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_music_jukebox_user_guide.html

This is the relevent line in the script:-

<album>%album% - %albumartist%</album>

We don't advise changing other lines..but we can't stop people experimenting.

Those who wish to share their script are asked to do the following:-

1) Post a reply to this thread, with the script attached.

2) Describe what the script does relative to the default script. Include images (phone?) of the "before  / after" effects, if possible.

3) Clearly indicate the attached script is  modifed by changing this script line:-

<generator>%_version% Mede8er X2 Firmware 2.0.4, V 1.0.2 20Feb2012</generator>

to something like:-

<generator>%_version% Mede8er X2 Firmware 2.0.4,  20Feb2012, Modifier "name"  V XXXX</generator>

The firmware should be the one it was tested with, and the date, the date it was posted.  From time to time the offical database code may change..and the official script updated. Users must be able to see that user scripts where made for an earlier firmware than the official script.

4) If you post a script..please help those who have issues if they try it.

5) Those using a modifed script may be asked to revert to the default script if they report an issue considered related to the script.

Can those wanting to comment on a script please post in the comments thread.

A basic reversed script is attached.

I have modified the default script so the default album display order in the music jukebox is by Artist first, then sub-sort by Album name chronologically, like this...

Artist - {Year} Album

I prefer this to the default view.  The default view sorts the albums by album name and ignores the artist name (unless you have more than one album with the exact same name by different artists) and ignores the year.

Here is an example of how the default view works (remember it ignores year)...

{2012} Album A - Artist 1
{1976} Album B - Artist 2
{2007} Album C - Artist 3
{2001} Album D - Artist 1
{2004} Album E - Artist 2
{2003} Album E - Artist 3
{1999} Album F - Artist 1
{1982} Album G - Artist 2
{1964} Album H - Artist 3

Using the same data as above, the modified view would show the albums in this order...

Artist 1 - {1999} Album F
Artist 1 - {2001} Album D
Artist 1 - {2012} Album A
Artist 2 - {1976} Album B
Artist 2 - {1982} Album G
Artist 2 - {2004} Album E
Artist 3 - {1964} Album H
Artist 3 - {2003} Album E
Artist 3 - {2007} Album C

The modified script (XX_Mede8er - Export_XML_V1.0.2u.zip) is attached.  Place the zip file in your TagScanner\scripts directory and unzip it.  The next time you launch TagScanner, you will see the new "u" script as an option.  After running the modified script, you will need to do a new scan on the Mede8er as normal.

Note:  This modified script should only be used if you always tag each song in an album with the same Year.

I also have my albums sorted based on the artist and not based on the album name.

But the problem I have shows up when I select an genre.
With the genre "disco" some albums show up, and also "Various Artists -"
This is a group of tracks which are not on any album (albumartist = Various Artists just as adviced in the manual)

The problem is that some tracks in this group are of the genre "Disco", but now all tracks are shown also those of a different genre.

Is it possible that when choosing a genre just a list of tracks appears which are of the chosen genre?
Does anyone know how to change the script to solve this?

Thanks,
Cinderella

Year and Genre seaches are resticted to Album searches..and will find any Album with one track of the year or genre selected.  Track search  by Year or Genre would result in a playlist which is too long to handle for most users collections.

If Genre is important to you,  you should create virtual  albums (called disco1, disco 2 etc) with only disco tracks in them..and make the artist, Various Artist.

I would suggest creating a playlist if you want to show only TRACKS for a particular genre.  It is pretty easy to do.  I use MP3Tag (but you can use TagScanner or whatever program you prefer) to create playlists and just add the whole music directory to MP3Tag, sort by Genre, then remove the genres I do not want from the list, then save the m3u list to the same directory where the Music.db file is located.  Now when you enter the music jukebox, press the Menu button, go to the bottom (shortcut by pressing up once to wraparound to bottom), and select Playlist, then the playlist that you want.  You will now be looking at a list of TRACKS for only the genre(s) you selected.
