This only applies to firmware 2.0 or higher to access your PC from your mede8er

First step: enable file sharing on WinXP:
1.Control Panel
2. Network Connections
3. Right click on your active network interface
4. Left click on properties
5. Verify if File- and Printersharing is enabled

Second step: enable the guest account (This step is not needed if your WinXP PC uses Simple File Sharing mode):
1. Control Panel
2. User Accounts
3. Click on guest account
4. Enable guest account

Third step:  Share desired folders on your PC for the mede8er:
1. Start Windows Explorer (Not confuse with Internet Explorer)
2. Goto the folder you want to share on one of your local discs
3. Click with right mouse on the folder to share
4. Select Sharing and Security
5. Depending on if your WinXP PC uses Simple File Sharing, the screen will be different.
For a WinXP PC with Simple File Sharing enabled:
- Toggle the square to enable sharing of the folder
For a WinXP PC with Simple File Sharing disabled:
- Select Share This Folder
- Click on Permissions Button
- Click on Add and select the Guest account
- Select OK

Last step: Get access from your mede8er:
1. Goto the Network menu
2. Select WORKGROUP and select the WinXP PC with ok. (or add PC in Shortcut menu as described here if you don't see workgroup and pc: http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=47.0)
3. For user fill in: guest leave password blank and select OK or OK save to shortcut

To access the mede8er from your PC:
- Be sure that you have switched NAS to ON in the Mede8er setup
- On your PC open the file explorer (so not the internet explorer)
- Click on the network icon and your Mede8er will show up. Click on it to browse the content of the internal disk if you have one installed
- If you don't see it, try to type \\mede8er on the input line on the top (or if you gave it another hostname type the hostname in stead)

Hey guys,

Ony my PC with XP I have shared a few folders. Some I can access through Mede8er (firmware 2.1.0), some require a username and password. After reading the above post, I do not have the 'permissions button' (see below).

For a WinXP PC with Simple File Sharing disabled:
- Select Share This Folder
- Click on Permissions Button
- Click on Add and select the Guest account
- Select OK

Any suggestions?

Hi Marc,

What kind of WinXP version to you have?
Home Edition maybe? Probably this has only simple file sharing.

My suggestion:
Try to create an extra user account with password, e.g. user: mede8er with password: mede8er
Now add this user to the folder you want to share and try again.

I found out why some shares require a username and password when accessed through Mede8er, and some not. It has to do with how the share is named:

Mede8er has some problems with shares that have a hyphen " ' " in the name, example in Dutch: " mijn foto's ".
As long as you keep it out, no problems.

Hi Marc,

I just checked the bug section.
Some other user already logged this issue:

Hi everbody! I am here in the forum first time as I purhased the box only yesterday.
Access from Medexer side to PC shared files has no problem. I can play back all files from PC via LAN.
The problem is that I can't access to the box from PC side. Nothing do not indicate even that the box exists. NAS is ON. Even typing the box's addres into IE does give any result. What is wrong? What I have missed?

What firmware release are you using?
Do you have an internal disk installed? Is it formatted from mede8er menu or not?

Finally I had success! Actually I have the latest 3.2 FW plus internal HDD. Simply, some incompetence from my side in installing. Smiley
So, everything is OK now!

Guys I have exact same issue here. Now I don't have internal drive though. I have USB HDD connected and want to be able to see this in Windows XP. In FW 2.02 I could, then I upgraded to FW 3.04 and now I cannot see it, why is this please? FW 3.04 gives me error each time say no internal HDD??

Cheers,
Mark
