Looks like you have some trouble with a small bug that seems to be in 2.0.1 (and also in 2.0), I have experienced this also myself.

When you put in a disk on a 2.0.1 firmware mede8er with no partitions on it, the format menu entries seems to be grayed out, you are not able to format.

Workaround is to load first 1.2.2a firmware on your unit (just use also firmware emergency recovery mode. Then format your internal disk from the menu.
And after that upgrade again following the 2.0.1 upgrade instructions carefully.

I am sure that this will work.

Hi,
Yesterday i had exactly the same problem. Put a new HDD disc to Mede8er and format options in Mede8er was grayed out.

So, i put HDD to Windows PC, opened Disc Managment (under Vista or W7) and set HDD active, then you can format disc to NTFS.
after this is HDD visible under Windows.
No I put HDD back inside Mede8er and format HDD with Mede8er format utility.

I do not know whether it is easier to prepare the disc windows PC way, or chance Mede8er firmware, but it is also the way.

You should rather format your drive using the Mede8er's GUI Setup and not use Windows to format it.

The reason for this is so that the Mede8er can create the special partitions that are required for certain functionality - if properly formatted, these partitions will show up as 'unknown' to the Windows OS if you view the Mede8er internal drive using Windows Disk Management (START > RUN > diskmgmt.msc).

There was a problem with generation 2.0.x firmware where the format option didn't work under certain conditions - this (amongst other reasons) was why the warnings were posted on the v2.0.x firmware download pages that the upgrade should not be applied unless there was an internal drive in the Mede8er and that drive was already formatted using the Setup GUI.
If you are experiencing problems with this, rather roll back the firmware to v1.2.2a and format the drive, then upgrade to v2.0.2 once you have checked that these partitions exist.

Yes, I was aware of this, but many users will probably not.  Wink
I would have had more to write, why it was necessary to re-format the disk Mede8er, but, my knowledge about English is, as it is.  Embarrassed

Just repeating the answer when not able to format in 2.0.x version firmware.
Just download 1.2.2a firmware from the download section and follow up the install instruction using emergency recovery mode.
Step by step instruction howto install 1.2.2a is in the release notes of that firmware.

For what it might be worth...

I had a similar issue : new mede8er, I upgraded firmware to latest version 2.02 and in HD format, 2 disks were greyed out. So no possibiity to format via standard menu.

Solution :

- Branched USB cable to portable
- Formatted disk via Windows 7 (but I guess, this goes for all versions)
- Rebooted mede8er
- Afterwards, I was able to see only 1 disk in the HD format menu and was capable of reformatting the disk via the standard menu.

Works great now.

Best regards,

Stef.
