Video setup menu description (firmware version 2.0.2)
(this is a first attempt, a 'living/growing' document)

Aspect Ratio
Set to the mode your TV set supports

Brightness / Contrast / Hue / Saturisation
Modify these setting to your own comfort

Digital Noise Reduction
It would be suggested that you change your DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) setting to OFF (AUTO is the install default) if you experience a 'soft' picture while watching SD movies on a large screen TV - this will sharpen the image considerably.

Video System (HDMI Auto / 480p / 576p / 720p 50HZ / 720p 60HZ / 1080i 50HZ / 1080i 60HZ / 1080p 50HZ / 1080p 60HZ)
Set this to the highest rate possible as supported by your TV set.
Preferred not to set to HDMI Auto to prevent any HDMI autosync problems (black screen/flickering screen).

AV Video System (NTSC / PAL)
Set to the mode your TV set supports

1080p 24HZ (on / off)
Set only on when playing 1080p 24fps movies.
You can check the fps (frames per second) rate of a movie by pressing the info button on the remote several times when watching a movie.

Screen Size
To adjust your screen size. Only has to be setup once.
Adjust the red square to the size of your screen. Then fine adjust so that the red square is just not yet visable.
This option is just to tune the layout to perfectly fit on the screen and to prevent burning in on plasma screen when there are "hard  borders" inside the visable area because the TV is set to a too high light intensity by a user.

Plasma mode (Off / Dark / Dim / Light )
Adjust as desired.
Static text and GUI always leave ghost lines on Plasma screens. Basically this setting changes the transparency of certain layers of the GUI and text with a result that the static images appear darker and have a lot less intensity. By using this setting you will be able to minimize the ghosting left on your Plasma Screen. You can also use these settings for CRT TV's and LCD TV's if you like the transparent look of the on-screen menus etc.
The Plasma setting does not effect or change the picture quality when viewing videos or picture content in full screen mode.

Shouldn't this be 24 FPS movies ?

Thanks, another word for the same but using fps makes a lot more sense.
Have made the correction.

TD,

I don't know if it is possible to implement such an automatic feature on the Mede8er.
I will move this request to the Feature Request section, so the Mede8er developers don't loose track of your request.

You can find it here:
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?board=24.0

Cheers,
Maasbommel

What happens if my tv supports only 1080i and my video content is 1080p. Would the hd player automatically downgrade itself to 1080i and play?

I really don't know but I think you will get just a blank screen on you TV because HDMI signal will go "out of sync" with your TV.
My Samsung supports all the modes so cannot give it a try.

But why would you set it to this mode if your TV does not support it?

If you set med500x to 1080p for a 1080i TV, screen will be black. It's always like this when you exceed capacity of th TV.
But if you set med500x to any definition lower than the movie, then med500x should downscale it to the choosen definition. Definitively not a problem.

By the way Maasbommel... about "Screen Size", it's written :"Then fine adjust so that the red square is just not yet visable."
But the maximum I can "push" red square (or should it be "rectangle", except if you got a square TV  Grin ) it's still visible. It is stuck on all borders, but visible. Is it normal?

I just took over the text that is on the mede8er screen when you have entered this option....  Roll Eyes
But your remark is probably right, rectangle would be better....

Regarding to the red square there are some post regarding this, just look here.
Could it be that your TV is set on some kind of auto zoom setting?

On my TV I am just able to move the red square just out of the screen as what is suggested on the mede8er screen when setting this up....

What kind of TV you are using? Brand and type?

I don't think it is an issue, this option is just to tune the layout to perfectly fit on the screen and to prevent burning in on plasma screen when there are "hard  borders" inside the visable area because the TV is set to a too high light intensity by a user as far as I know of.

I suppose you have to uncheck overscan option if you have it on TV menu.

Also check for Orbiter is set to off, when setting the screen size.
Most TV sets will have some kind of safeguard for the display.

Yes I get rid of it.

But for exactly what is this option, because (except if I missed something)? It's not the first parameter I changed on the med500, and I never notice that picture was undersized. After changing I also don't notice major change...

Did some googling on it and found this:

Overscan is present on all TV's to hide any unsightly patterns that are deliberately added to the edges of the frame, usually for technical reasons. Panasonic has provided an option for turning overscan on/off in the new models. The main use of the feature would typically be for PC input to prevent edges of the screen getting cut off, such as the start menu. You may also like to turn overscan off to improve picture quality slightly when you know the edges of the video are "clean" , eg. blu-ray.

Question wasn't on overscan, but on screen size option...

I already gave an answer to that in one of my previous post on this section, but here again (have also added it to the description in the manual:

Hi,

I just bought a mede8er and I was wondering if  there is
an video option "Fit to Screen" that way it will be easy for everyone to watch their movies in full screen, instead of adjusting the screensize everytime......we are using the red square to show the mede8er our screensize how cool will it be to use it for movies.....

thanks in advance
