I tried updating a friend's Med8er 500x last night to FW 4.05. It started the process but then flashed a message saying that it's the incorrect bootloader. It then began a loop whereby it would start the FW upgrade process, flash the error message, and then back to the upgrade again. I couldn't get it to stop doing this, using either the remote or even just hitting the power button. I had to eventually pull the power to get it to stop.

I had read up on updating the bootloader via the Emergency Procedure, so I tried to do this, but I noticed something strange immediately.
Previously, when the power was plugged in, the LED would be red, until you hit the power button at which point it would turn blue. Now the LED was not on at all, when the power got plugged in.

I tried doing the Emergency Recovery by holding the power button for ~10 seconds, but the very instant that I pressed down the button, the device would start to boot - the LED staying constantly blue, irrespective of how long I hold down the power - and then immediately just freeze on the logo. Once this happens, I cannot shut the device down except through pulling the power out of the back.

Is there anything I can try? Like I mentioned, this is a friend's device and I would really not want to have to give him the news that I killed his media player.

I suggest to try this procedure:

You are stuck in the bootloader screen, this might solve your issue.

Thanks for the response, Maasbommel. That's exactly what I've been trying to do. However, holding the power button on startup of the device does nothing. The Emergency Procedure doesn't actually begin. The device just goes straight into boot and then stays locked on the Bootloader screen.

Emergency install needs code to perform it.....that is part of the bootloader. So you should hang on the logo whilst the power button is pressed. One issue is that previous attempt failed because the med didn't like the usb stick....and now you are trying to fix it....using the same stick.

Have you ever used this stick to successfully upgrade the firmware before?

Ok, I will try again later with a different USB stick. One that I've formatted using the HP tool. Will let you guys know how it goes.

One user have said they end up using an old 1 gb stick from the back of the draw. The latest 16 gb+ sticks seem to be a problem.

On and this was the 1st time that the firmware for this device had even been updated since my friend bought it earlier this year.
