I have been searching and have a horrible feeling the answer is no, but I wanted to check this.

I have three Mede8er's dotted around the house (400x, 500x & 500x2), and all my video files are kept on a central NAS.

An old cheapo network media player in the kitchen has just died, so I have put the 500x in to replace it.  Unfortunately, my wife plays music video a lot of the time and I have a play list (.m3u) set up which the cheapo  Media Player used to use.

On the 500x I cannot see any way of playing the M3U playlist files for these music videos.

Can I play M3U files for music videos on the 500x (latest firmware), or do I have to duplicate and rename hundreds of video files (which is frankly a PITA and not what I would expect from a Mede8er  Roll Eyes ) ?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Are you using the playlist created by your previous box..or have you tested creating one using the 500x?

I googled this...and it comes down to if relative or absolute file locations are used. Some players will add the Network shortcut information to the relative locations and hence find the files. Others need the playlist itslef to contain the full network address of the files.

I created the playlist myself, with my own written playlist application.  It worked fine on the previous player and I haven't changed anything.

The playlist (.M3U) file uses relative paths.  It is on a network share to a NAS so absolute paths created by an external file could be tricky.

I didn't realise I could actually create a video playlist on the 500x itself.  I will rtfm and see what I can find.

But if I get the gist of your message, video playlists are possible from a NAS?

There are posts which say  yes..but I have no personal lknowledge of this. That is why I asked to what extent you have tested this function by creating a test playlist (with a couple of videos) using the 500x's own playlist creator. You  would have to  be using Samba or NFS network shortcuts to connect...

So create a netowrk shorcut...use it to connect to the NAS..and then use the playlist creator.

This give you an example of a playlist for music on a nas (bottom list).

Do your video playlists look similer?

Yes, my playlists look very similar, although I have downloaded Playlist Creator and create a relative path playlist on there too.

I do use NFS on my NAS, so I guess this should be OK.

I will have a look at creating a playlist with the 500x too.

Thanks for your help, I will let you know how I get on with it.

I am now feeling rather silly.  Embarrassed

The problem was because I was trying to access the .M3U playlist files from the Video wall.  When navigating the long way through to the same .M3U files, the video playlists work perfectly.  Roll Eyes

Thanks for your assistance, without which I probably would have assumed (incorrectly) that it didn't work.

If there is a way of using playlists from the Video wall I would be interested, but otherwise panic over. Few!

Much appreciated.

Any nas device used via the wall must have a network shortcut created for it.

I do have a shortcut to the folder containing the playlist file, but it does not seem to want to play M3U's from it.
