Hi All,
I ran into an issue while trying to upgrade the firmware on one of my MED500X boxes:

The unit runs on 2.1.0 firmware, which I would like to upgrade to the latest version. I've tried all of the suggestions from other posts that a written on this subject, however none of them seem to do the trick. Maybe I'm overseeing anything. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is what I've tried so far:
- The unit has 2.1.0 firmware with the 17L bootloader.
- I've tried three different USB sticks, formated to FAT32, both with and without the HP formatting tool.
- Tried to install firmware 4.0.5, the V4 beta, the bootloader updater and finally version 3.0 (taking small steps now...). None of these will load.
- The USB stick's activity light will flash once after holding the power button down for a long time (far longer than 20sec) and stays off after that. The monitor output of the Mede8er shows the logo and the units stays frozen until power is switched off an on again.
- disconnecting the HDMI during update does not make any difference.

I'm in doubt whether the USB ports of the unit function properly: They provide power and when i connect the slave port to a computer, the unit goes into PC mode. However, I would expect the unit to appear as an external drive in the explorer / finder. It doesn't neither PC or MAC recognize the unit as a drive. Further to that, in the mediachoice menu inside the unit's UI, the USB option is grayed out. No matter what USB stick or drive is attached.

I'm sure the USB stick(s) are OK and that I have the correct files, since the upgrade process worked successfully on the other unit I have (also a MED500x).

Has anyone experienced this issue before? or is there a workaround in upgrading the firmware through an other method instead of by using the USB ports (except for the upgrade the ports are not important to me)?

Thanks

Version 3 was avaialbe in both zip  and rar versions becuase some users suffered from corrupt downloads. If you dwonloaded zip, try rar instead, or vice versa.

Hi Jer1956,

No (noticeable) difference between the RAR and the ZIP version. None of the firmware versions (regardless 3.x or 4.x) seem to load. I still keep have my doubts about the USB ports. Do you (or anybody else) know if there is a way to SSH into the box, in order to check whether it's possible to mount an USB device and thus verify if the port(s) functio correctly?

Thanks

You can telnet into the box, use username root and leave password blank.
