Gotta say, I've followed the Beginner's Guide to the letter and all the info supplied here. Still, I can't get my Mede8er to see my Windows 7 shares, even though I've followed every step!! I can ping the Mede8er from my Win7 PC okay, by IP address or hostname. The Mede8er can also see and read my UPnP TwonkyMedia server on the Win7 PC. But still, after following all the steps, restarting the Mede8er, router, PC....it cannot see my Win 7 shares!!!! I tried the shortvut thing, but that give me a LOGON FAILED message, even though the Guest account is setup correctly with no password.

I've only had this box 2 days and already i'm thinking about returning it....all I want it to do is play the content on my Win7 PC (without using Twonky!!).

M8R FW: 3.0.2
Router: BTHomehub v2
PC: Windows 7 Home Edition
Wired connection from router to M8R
M8R pingable from Win7 PC

Help! Before I throw this out of the window!!!!

Don't get frustrated.....

Just try the following things:
Create an user account with name: mede8er
After that, put password on it: mede8er

Be sure that your PC is configured in the workgroup: WORKGROUP (is it?)
Or is it configured in a Domain?

Now at this user to a folder on your PC to share it.

Now goto network shortcut menu on your mede8er and try to logon with this login name and password.

I was frustrated 2 hours ago, now I'm downrigh angry and on the verge!

Nevertheless, results as follows:-
- I created a user account: mede8er with password: mede8er
- The PC is in the workgroup: WORKGROUP (it always has been and still is)
- I've added the user to a folder I want to share
- I've gone to my network shortcut. After a while a box is displayed with User Name and Password fields. The User Name is prefilled with 'mede8er'. I enter 'mede8er' as the password (even though it was already defined on the shortcut!) and select 'OK & save to my shortcuts'. Mede8er logo appears and spins for 15 seconds before I get 'LOGON FAIL' message.

Tried selecting the shortcut again, this time dialog window appears with password prefilled with asterisks. I click OK, but after 15 seconds I get the LOGON FAIL message again.

So, still doesn't work Sad

I still have high hopes for the Mede8er, but just wish simple things like this would just work. As a consumer I shouldn't have to be messing around like this.

Hi Domino,

Using filesharing is not simple..... Therefore they invented Upnp that needs less setup..

I am thinking of 2 other things that migh give you this trouble:
- a firewall on your PC blocking
- sharing a folder on your PC that is having special characters in it, like ' or folders with an extension e.g. folder.jpg
This last is a known issue and in the bug section.

Hey Maas! Your a star!

I tuned the firewall on my PC OFF, and hey presto it now works!

However, I reallt like/need my firewall (Kasperky Internet Security), so how can I reactivate it and keep the Mede8er seeing my shares?

Appreciate your help Smiley

Hi Domino1999,

No not a star... Just a lot of experience on the mede8er box and config issues, have already been around here a while...  Wink

Regarding your question about your firewall, It should be possible to "open" the network ip address of your mede8er or just the complete ip-range of you home network (so not the internet ip range).

I can't give you details about this howto configure this kind of rule in Kaspersky, don't have experience with that because never used it.
I suggest to look at the Kaspersky site for an instruction howto do this and maybe there are some users around over here on the forum that can give some details howto do this in Kaspersky.

Think I've worked it out Smiley

Why I didn't think of the firewall in the first place is beyond me!

Thanks Maas, hopefully that'll be the end of my Mede8er problems.

Thanks for the guide, it works perfectly!  Smiley

If I may give a suggestion for FTP connection from your pc: Filezilla Client is a very nice utility to transfer (large) files to your MEDE8ER.

I tried Filezilla but it was a bit shaky and not that fast (1,9 Mbps)

Thanks, for the guides anyway. I was a bit frustrated at the beginning because I couldn't get the network filesharing to work. But the register trick did it!  (I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop)
