I have stored some jpeg pictures in some folders on my new mede8er.
(Firmware 1.2.2a, 1.5 TB Samsung HD)

I want to create different slide shows with these pictures.

However, I do not succeed doing that: I can select some pictures in a folder by the select button on the remote control. Then I press the confirm button and a file is created in the root of the harddisk named m3u.Picture).

My questions:
1. I have copied this file into the folder pictures, however I do not see it there. And, as I want to hold multiple playlists (files) for different slide shows, how can I name them. What do I have to do, to achive this.

2. How can I select such a playlist?

3. can I create those playlists also with a regular text editor by simply writing for each picture a line like

C:/Pictures/slides1/DSC09999.JPG
...

(the recommended playlist creator program only accepts sound files, but no jpegs)

Thank you for your help.

Peter

is there no answer to my question?

Or has anybody a link, where the behaviour of playlists (especially for pictures) is explained?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Peter,
playlists for jpgs can be made using Playlist Creater. By default it does not accept jpgs so you need to click on settings and go to create new file type. Enter jpg in the box and click new. jpg will now show in the inactive file pane, click on it and click add. jpg will now show in the active file pane. Click ok and you can now drag & drop jpgs into the playlist and save it.

Cheers

@Shamus

Thank you for your information about creating a playlist also for jpg pictures. I will try this tomorrow.

However, there is still the question, where to put a playlist in the harddisk of the media player an how to name it.

Today, I had to format my harddisk due to the new firmware and I tried to create a very small playlist with 3 pictures at the media player. There was finally one file in the root, which I do not see from the media player. So, how can I have multiple playlists?

Hi Peter,
You can put the playlist anywhere in the hard drive. The way I do it with my music files and playlist is to have a folder called music. Within this folder I have a folder for each album and also one for my playlists. I call the playlist folder aaaplaylists (the aaa bit is just to ensure it is always first in the folder and so save me from having to scroll down to find it) and I save each of my playlists into this folder by naming them in Playlist Creator e.g. dance, slow, party, etc. When I select any of these playlists they open up with the list of tracks in the playlist, select any one start playing and then return. I tried it with a small playlist of jpgs and it works fine - you need to make sure the slide show is on in the mede8er setup under misc - select a time and a transition effect and away you go.
Give it a try and if you need more help let me know
Cheers

Sorry for not responding previously - I was focussed on other drama...

You don't even need a playlist creator - just notepad.

Here is a very simple playlist example that I made for pictures:

Create a text file called e.g. pictures.m3u (any name with a .m3u extension)
Code:
HDD\Pictures\wallpaper_1080p_01_fhdr.jpg
HDD\Pictures\Rock_Band_1080p_Wallpaper_by_jbarnes85.jpg
HDD\Pictures\porsche_panamera_s_1920x1080.jpg
HDD\Pictures\My_HS_1080p_ps3_wallpaper_by_bryanrisktaker.jpg
HDD\Pictures\infinity_hdtv_1080p-HD.jpg
HDD\Pictures\game-wallpapers-1080p.jpg

Created one called music.m3u for some music files:
Code:
HDD\Music\01 Dude (Looks Like a Lady).mp3
HDD\Music\02 Love in an Elevator.mp3
HDD\Music\03 Aerosmith - Cryin'.mp3
HDD\Music\03 Hole in My Soul.mp3
HDD\Music\04 Aerosmith - Amazing.mp3
HDD\Music\04 Walk This Way.mp3

store them anywhere on HDD...
Just be sure to keep music separate from photos and both separate from movies - don't mix media types or you may get some odd results.

To make these work off a network you don't give the full path:
Code:
\Aerosmith\01 Dude (Looks Like a Lady).mp3
\Alicia Keys\The Diary Of Alicia Keys\01 Harlem's Nocturne.mp3
\Guns & Roses\Appetite For Destruction (1987)\01 Anything Goes.mp3

today I continued my testing with playlists. Most important info for me seems: all playlists must have the extension .m3u.

After I succeeded, starting the Mede8er, so that it sees my harddisk (see my other thread), I created a playlist by notepad.

But when I then select the playlist and go down to any picture, I always see on the right hand side the message "File not exist!!" And when I press the ok button, I get a message in the left top corner reading "INVALID FILE".

It seems to be clear, that I have entered invalid files. However, I believe, I didn't.

This is my playlist:

HDD1/Bilder/BilderSample/b1920x1080 96 DPI.JPG
HDD/Bilder/Panorama/DSC01020.JPG
hdd1/Bilder/Panorama/DSC01258.JPG
Bilder/Panorama/DSC01020.JPG
/Bilder/Panorama/DSC01258.JPG

As you can see, I tried different formats: I used HDD1, HDD, nothing at all. What do I have to wrrite to define the root  directory (HDD or HDD1)?
Then, does it matter if there ar blanks in the filename?
Is there a restriction in the length of the filename?
Is the filname to be written in upper/lowercase exactly as shown in the dir command?
(Please note, that there is also a file m3u.All and m3u.info in the root directory which seemed to be created, when I tried to create a playlist via the remote control of the media player)

Here is the directory list of the drive (i deleted the folders FILME and MUSIC):

Hi Pope5,

If I look at your playlist, it seems that you have used the wrong dash.
Use \ and not /

Please look at the example Insomniac posted.

Just my 2 cents....

no, changing / to \ does not solve the problem.

And when I select some pictures via the remote control and confirm it these pictures are added to the file m3u.all.
And there is also a slash (/).

But what I also wonder, I do not see this playlist file m3u.All and thus cannot select it.

Hi pope5
I see you are creating your playlists by using notepad - nothing wrong with that if a bit of a long way compared to using Playlist Creater. However, be aware that mede8er is case sensitive regarding file names and extensions. e.g. if you have a jpg called alpha.jpg then this is how it must be typed, not Alpha.jpg or alpha.JPG for example. If the case is wrong mede8er will show file not exist and if you try to open it then you will get invalid file. This only applies to files stored on the internal hdd, not on ones stored on a network share. This might be your problem. If you use drag and drop in playlist creater then this won't be a problem as no typing is involved.

@Shamus

some of the picture names are written differently (regarding upper/lowercase) are written differently to the name on the hard disk. however, there are also some, that are written in the same format as stored on the hard disk. E. g. DSC01020.JPG .
(you can check this, by searching this tread for DSC01020. It is written in both cases in the same form (including the folder).

What I still miss is the information how to address the root directory. Shall I write
/HDD/... or
/HDD1/... or only
Bilder/Panorama/DSC01020.JPG or
/Bilder/Panorama/DSC01258.JPG

Some more information:

I just created a playlist with playlist Creator 3.6 on my pc, which has the mediaplayer connected via network (windows explorer shows \\mede8er\HDD1\Bilder ).

I dragged some pictures from the windows explorer to the filename field of the playlist creator and finally created the playlist on a drive of my pc. Then I copied this file to the folder "Bilder" of the mediaplayer

The list reads:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0, -  -
\\Mede8er\HDD1\Bilder\BilderSample\B1920x1080 96 DPI.jpg
#EXTINF:0, -  -
\\Mede8er\HDD1\Bilder\Diashow\DSC08659.JPG
#EXTINF:0, -  -
\\Mede8er\HDD1\Bilder\Diashow\DSC08671.JPG
#EXTINF:0, -  -
\\Mede8er\HDD1\Bilder\Hongkong Nov. 2007\DSC04869.JPG
#EXTINF:0, -  -
\\Mede8er\HDD1\Bilder\Hongkong Nov. 2007\DSC04912.JPG
#EXTINF:0, -  -
\\Mede8er\HDD1\Bilder\Panorama\DSC01262-63.JPG
#EXTINF:0, -  -
\\Mede8er\HDD1\Bilder\Panorama\DSC0113133.JPG

The mediaplayer shows the list, but when I select this list and get to the first picture, I still get the msg "File not exist!!"

I also changed the playlist and dropped in each line the \\Mede8er\  that the lines read e.g. HDD1\Bilder\BilderSample\B1920x1080 96 DPI.jpg . But also no success.

And by the way: I just reread this tread if I have overseen something and found the information that I have to set the slide show on by setting a time and a transition effect. This was not the case (due to the firmware update to 2.1). I hoped, this was the error. I set the time to 10 sec. and cross fade, but my problem still exists.

Any more ideas? Thank you for any help.

This structure should work:

This structure should work:

Code:
HDD\Bilder\BilderSample\B1024x768 96 DPI true color.jpg
HDD\Bilder\Diashow\A1.jpg
HDD\Bilder\Hongkong Nov. 2007\Dsc04801a.jpg
HDD\Bilder\Panorama\DSC01020.JPG

These structures wont work (just tried them)
The structure you need is
..\..\HDD1\Bilder\Diashow\A1.jpg
The ..\..\ at the start tells mede8er to go up 2 directory levels (in your case to the root) and then start on the HHD1\Bilder\Diashow path. Each ..\ means go back up one level. In your case you have put the playlist in the Bilder folder so to get back to the root you need to go up 2 levels.
Alternatively, you could use this structure
Diashow\DSC08659.JPG
This tells mede8er to go to the folder Diashow and will work as long as the playlist is starting from the folder which contains the folder Diashow
If you then move the playlist or the folder then it will stop working again.
Using Playlist Creator the easy way to get the structure correct is to go into settings, playlist details and in the saving playlist entries drop down menu choose Relative (e.g "..\ etc)
When creating a playlist in Playlist Creator do not save the playlist to your computer and then transfer it to the mede8er, rather save it direct to the mede8er, in your case to the Bilder folder. This will ensure the relative paths work.
I have just created a playlist in Playlist Creator using your folder setup and it works. The playlist looks like
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0, -
Diashow\DSC08659.JPG

Hope this helps - it can be a bit tricky to get the structures right at first but you soon get the hang of it.
Cheers

There are small progresses in creation of playlists due to the informative answer of Shamus. Thank you for that.

I succeed to create now manually and by Playlist Creator 3.6 playlists that work!

However, there are still problems, when using the remote control to create the "standard" playlist.

First, I deleted from the pc all files in the root named m3u.All and m3u.info. Finally, there were only 4 folders in the root named Bilder, Filme, Musik and System Volume Information.

Then I got into the folder Bilder\BilderSample and selected 2 pictures by the select butten of the remote control and then I pressed the confirm button. I get the message selected Files added to playlist.

And this created 2 Files in the root named m3u.All reading

HDD/Bilder/BilderSample/B1920x1080 150 DPI.jpg
HDD/Bilder/BilderSample/B1920x1080 72 DPI.jpg

and a file m3u.info reading

0
0
6

(definitively, notepad shows 00612 only in one line)

But when I get back to the root directory, I do not see these files, to select the "standard" playlist.

Question 1: How can I select this playlist?

Another test was then, that I got to the folder Bilder/Panorama, CHOSED THE TAB "Photo", selected 3 pictures and pressed the confirm button. I got the message again: selected files addded to playlist.

Now, there was a NEW file named m3u.Picture reading

HDD/Bilder/Panorama/DSC01043.JPG
HDD/Bilder/Panorama/DSC0113133.JPG
HDD/Bilder/Panorama/DSC01262-63.JPG

and the file m3u.info has changed to

0
0
9
12

But also this file is not shown in the root directory.

Same question as above: how can I select THIS playlist?

And finally, I suppose, there is an error in the display of files:
when I get to the folder "Bilder" and I select the tab All, I see the folders and all my own playlists. When I select the tab Music,  this is the same (of course, because the playlists may hold music files). When I now select the tab Photo, I only see the folders and no longer the playlists. This is not good, because now, I would like to select a playlist, which holds photos. And that is not possible. Why are playlists shown in the tab All and Music, but not in the tab Phote and Movies.

Thanks you for more help.

Peter

ps: I want to mention, that I selected the language English, though my folders read "Bilder". Is this a problem?
